UBL Open show - November 2009.
Blue and gold lights wash the main hall of Bakumatsu Arena as UBL streamers, banners of Orochi Geese, and confetti fall on excited fans. We go to the commentary table where John Randolph is standing.*
[John:] "It's an honor to be hosting the first UBL Open show in Japan. As my colleague Jean Carter said at the past Battalion show, UBL got its start here. But unlike the Battalion league, the older versions of UBL never had Open shows, only leagues. So this is a new concept for those fans who have followed UBL and we hope to satisfy them as we have our American fans. And we think we have the card to do so."
*The BattleTron displays six matches*
1. Jae Viral vs. Daddy PrimeTime
2: Vert Triangle vs. Julian Caesaro
3: Athrin/Sword/Omega vs. Marquis/DuBreil/Vesuvius
4: SWA match: Corey O'Brian vs. Hiro Hirada
5. Juan Leche vs. Shady
6: NEXUS Title: Gene Starr vs. Karl Wunderlin (c)
[John:] "We're gonna get right into the action tonight with a match that reflects a rivalry turned sour, perhaps from the start. The Ni San-Dan has been dealing with a thorn in their side by the name of Daddy PrimeTime. In fact, DPT's debut in UBL was interrupting a speech by NS-D leader, Dambman . DPT said a number of harsh things that I won't repeat here but among them was that Damb and the NS-D were overrated. Dambman went onto defeat DPT in match but this did nothing to quell DPT's feelings. Instead, he has made it his mission to get a rematch with Damb, a mission that Damb has allowed only if DPT works his way through the NS-D to get a rematch. And DPT has defeated KMD already, after Drake switched Kid Tanabe out for him. And now he is facing Jae Viral. In the past few weeks, however, this feud has really erupted with a war of words from both sides. It has become extremely personal and I'm not so sure we're gonna get a clean match from either. But we certainly will get a competitive one so let's go to the ring."

[John:] "Ouch. For those of who you doubt how painful a move that can be, all I need to do is direct you to Johnny Brooke's first victory over Gene Starr utilizing that same exact style kick. The human body is a tricky thing and those knees, let me tell ya, they can go at any time when kicked the wrong way."
Jae Viral (X) [Knee joint Kick- 14:16] (O) Daddy PrimeTime
[John:] " I hope Jae isn't seriously injured - but he looks like he's about to be! DPT is not letting up on the assault here. He slaps on the "Whose ya Daddy" style Scorpion Death Lock and Jae is tapping here, trying to get this attack to stop. Luckily for him, KMD and Kid Tanabe come out. DPT rolls out of the ring while they attend to their fallen friend Jae. But right then, DPT smiles and makes a motion to the back...bringing out his long time tag team partner, Sonic Death! The two get into the ring and blindside KMD and Kid Tanabe who had their attention on Jae. DPT hits Kid with a Superkick and Sonic hits KMD with a quick STO. But before any more damage is done, a chair-wielding Dambman comes out to the ring, looking absolutely enraged, and clears the ring of Daddy Death. The fans are giving it up for Damb but despite what should be his moment in the Japan crowd, he is not happy one bit. DPT and Sonic Death are certainly smiling it up though, and it appears this rivalry has just been raised to a new level. No grinding needed."
[John:] "And we're ready for our next match, pitting Vert Triangle vs. Julian Caesaro. At the May Open show, Julian Caesaro doublecrossed Vert Triangle in his match against PerfectShawn Stevens. Acting as the referee, assigned by Drake Yoshida, Caesaro was anything but impartial as he awarded Shawn the match via submission despite the fact that Vert never gave up! And if that wasn't enough of a clue that something was rotten in Caesaroland, he and Shawn mercilessly beat Vert down until he had to be taken away by a stretcher, after a brief save by Omega Churchill. Shortly after that, Caesaro and Shawn formed "Perfect Royalty" and has vowed to take over UBL. Well, Vert will get his chance for redemption tonight, albeit in a 20 minute limit, apparently the match limit favored by Caesaro since stepping into a UBL ring and narrowly avoiding defeat by Omega. Let's see what Vert Triangle can do against his antagonist."

[John:] "I don't know what it is about Mr. Caesaro and time limits but this was cutting it extremely close! Caesaro JUST managed to get the victory with 11 seconds left on the clock. Vert wrestled his best match in UBL but it wasn't enough to put away the cocky but talented Julian Caesaro."
Vert Triangle (X) [La Espalda- 19:49] (O) Julian Caesaro
[John:] "Vert looks frustrated but he hasn't taken his eyes off Julian. Omega Churchill comes out as well to make sure there isn't going to be another double team against Vert. But it isn't wise for Omega to push the issue here against Caesaro as he has his own match later tonight and he needs to be fresh. Julian winks at him, then points to the time keeper's table, alluding to that magic 20 minutes. Omega just shakes his head in disgust and sees to it that Vert is able to go backstage. Julian walks backstage after posing to the crowd. Omega stays as he's scheduled to be a participant in the next match,"
[John:] "And that match is a six man tag that's been building for a long time.. I daresay the action between these six men have been the most violent and mean-spirited in the entire Reserve Roster over the last year. Marquis de Douleur and Jean DuBreil formed "The Bastille of Blood" earlier this year and antagonized Silent Sword and his student Athrin Cross. After trying to obtain the blood of both of them, with resistance, the monster Vulcan Vesuvius inexplicably joined the Bastille, making them even more dangerous. Owen "Omega" Churchill aided Athrin and Sword in fighting them off. Sword got a measure of revenge on DuBreil during Battle Formation when he actually defeated him in their 6 man interbrand UBL/Kirin Dojo match, but it's clear that just made the Bastille's Blood run thicker with rage. What disturbs me is that the Bastille has been relatively quiet in the past few months cause that's gotta mean they have been plotting. But against a dream team like Athrin, Sword, and Omega, they may just be plotting to escape without injury. Though I'd never count any team with Vulcan Vesuvius out...except out cold...or out hot...I dunno, he's a giant lava man, journalism school doesn't cover things like that! Give me some leeway!"
Match #3: Athrin/Sword/Omega vs. Marquis/DuBreil/Vesuvius
[John:] "The Bastille of Blood have come to the ring immediately and have no qualms in enjoying a 3-1 advantage against Omega before the bell even rings. But Omega isn't backing down and is actually facing all three men with surprising success. Folks I don't know what's holding Athrin and Sword here but this is gonna get ugly fast. It's hard enough to face a 1 on 3 but when the gigantic Vulcan Vesuvius is among them, you can only hang on for so long. And the tipping point comes when Jean DuBreil clips Omega's leg as he tries to grab Marquis in a suplex. Then the Bastille lay into Omega with kicks and vicious Vulcan hammers. The question remains what is keeping Omega's teammates?"
[John:] "The BattleTron has just turned on and there's Perfect Royalty blocking the path of Athrin and Sword! Is this some kind of setup!? I don't think Athrin or Sword even know that Omega is out at ringside so they are exchanging tense words but don't appear to be rushing until a stagehand tells them!! Then they burst past the smirking Perfect Royalty to ringside to see Omega in a very bad situation."
[John:] "Jean and Marquis set up a table on the outside and Vulcan has Omega on the apron. And he just powerbombed Omega through that table! Omega is out cold! Athrin and Sword are too late to stop this and if there actually is a match, Omega won't be taking part. Athrin and Sword get into the ring and begin brawling with Jean and Marquis! Sword is cutting into Marquis with kicks while Athrin has Jean in a headlock. Vulcan doesn't appear to be too interested in getting involved here, despite the intensity of his opponents, and almost seems to be guarding the path to the ring. Sword and Athrin are taking it to Marquis and Jean -
*The lights suddenly go out in the arena.*
[John:] "What the heck just happened!? Folks, we're literally in the dark here about what's going on-"
*The lights come back on and the crowd shrieks*
[John:] "Oh nol!! There's blood in the ring!! Like LOTS of it! Athrin has some on his hands. He had a crazed look in his eyes and is smearing the blood on his chest! Sword turns around to check to make sure his partner is all right and is shocked at Athrin's expression! Athrin drills an elbow into Sword's forehead before lifting him up for a Demon Driver!! What the hell is he doing!? Sword is his mentor and friend!! And now DuBreil and Marquis are stomping on the fallen sword as Athrin just laughs!"
[John:] "By the way fans, the blood in the ring appear to not be as random as it first seemed. In fact, it looks to be spelling out three letters. "F.T.S." I have no idea what that stands for but I hope it's not some internet slang. This isn't LAWL, after all. As much as I'd love to dwell on letters, it looks like Athrin is instructing Marquis and Jean to lift Sword up. Athrin grabs his Kusarigama out from his entrance robe and begins carving Sword's forehead! He then runs the ropes and nails Sword with a Lariat of Rage. Sword looks knocked out but Athrin isn't done. He does behind for a Demon Clutch Suplex and it appears he wants to hit Sword with everything he has!! And to top it off, Athrin nails him with a SECOND Demon Driver on Sword! A sickening thud is heard as Sword goes limp on the ground. Meanwhile, Omega is still knocked out from that apron powerbomb by Vulcan! Athrin looks over and laughs as he pulls out his kusarigama again to cut Sword's head even more, allowing more blood to freely flow into a vial Jean DuBreil has brought out."
[John:] "Here comes Vert Triangle to help - FINALLY someone has come! but Vert is immediately intercepted by a huge lariat by Vulcan, turning him inside out. Even if Vert hadn't wrestled for 20 minutes before, I doubt he could have done much in this situation. Athrin is staring down at Sword with a crazed look in his eyes and suddenly raises his hand in the air. Marquis and Jean DuBreil bow to Athrin and Vulcan nods from the outside. I think UBL has a new group not afraid to get its hands stained with blood."
Omega/Sword (X) [BLOOD VIOLENCE BETRAYAL - 5:00] (0) Athrin/Vesuvius/DuBreil/Marquis
[John:] "After these men decide they are finally done with this disgusting display, they leave the ring. This allows the medics to attend to Omega, who is finally coming to after that powerbomb. Vert Triangle is getting up as well. But Sword...Sword is STILL not moving after those two Demon Drivers and the crowd is silent as the medics put him on a stretcher, clean his head up a bit, and carefully bring him out of the ring. To think he is Athrin's mentor and this happened. Right now folks are completely silent after what we just saw. Three men were just brutalized and a man that we all thought stood for the right things in wrestling showed his true color was blood red. How long was this being set up? And why, WHY did Athrin do this!? I hope we get some answers, and soon. But most of all, I hope Silent Sword is going to be ok."
*We have to take a small intermission now, and judging by the looks on the faces of the fans, they need a break. Apparently Drake's words to Jean about not pushing the merch goes for me too. But I did want to sneak in a mention of a new Matt Rivers shirt. Thanksgiving themed food is being sold at Park's Chippy stand. If you've never had fried turkey, don't change your diet. I mean, uh, give it a spin! Fried cranberry sauce though is my limit for shilling and digestive health.*
[John:] "And now it's time for what is sure to be a very physical match, a rematch in fact. Hiro Hirada was brought in from BATT by Drake to make some problems for Corey after the threats Corey made towards Geese. While Corey did beat Hiro in their first match, it wasn't with ease. Drake has said that this "Last Man Standing" match is in Hiro's favor and that is quite a bold statement to make given Corey's arsenal. But Hiro is a large man with a lot of resilience and he hits hard. Simple, but effective. Corey is gonna have to really work to keep Hiro down or beat him in some other way. Hiro will have to avoid Corey's deadlier moves and keep him on the mat to neuturalize Corey's speed advantage. Let's see who goes down for the count."

[John:] "Another competitive and grueling match between the two but this time, Hiro Hirada pulls the victory out with a vicious choke slam. Corey was scooped up by the neck and impaled into the mat by a man who's built like a truck. This isn't gonna be over-
Corey O'Brian (X) [Hirocane Choke Slam - 17:01] (X) Hiro Hirada
[John:] "Wait, this is strange. "Majin" Black Omen has just been spotted on the ramp, I think he came out during the match. He is looking at both competitors in the ring and nodding. He then points a finger at Corey, and a finger at Hiro, then smashes his fists together before pointing at himself. That was pretty intense actually but I'm not quite sure what it means. But folks, I'm getting word that there is a confrontation back stage. Oh this night just isn't gonna be done til everyone's at war, is it!?"
*The BattleTron turns on to show Thunder Strike in a staredown with FPCPP superstar and CWA Champion, WholenothaLevel.*
[Thunder:] "Why wait til now?"
*Level is smiling a bit.*
[Thunder:] "We all know that I'm the target Geese contracted with you to take out. UBL putting you up against Jeff Monroe at the next show is just public misdirection so Geese can avoid his deal with you breaking the Cease Fire. You're not here tonight as a coincidence, Butcher."
[Level:] "So you saying we have a problem?"
[Thunder:] "You're gonna have a big one if you try to do what Geese wants you to."
[Level:] "Is that right?"
[Thunder:] "That's exactly right. Allow me to be clear. Preemptive strikes aren't immoral to me. Letting my guard down is. So if you continue to pose a threat-"
*Level laughs to cut Thunder off.*
[Level:] "Geese is right about you - you're a pussy. You ain't worth my time. But I think I know who is."
*Level, still smirking, turns his back on Thunder and walks away as Thunder stares, steadying his body in case of an attack. But the situation to end peacefully and we go back to the broadcast booth with John.*
[John:] "I haven't ever heard anyone call Thunder Strike a...well, coward to his face. That almost got violent quickly. It's a good thing it didn't, cause Thunder is just a few weeks removed from that hard fought Battalion tag match with Snake Mountain and can't be 100% - but it doesn't seem to matter to him as he'll fight anyone at any time if he has to. And right now it appears he is coming out to ringside. He grabs a chair and sits down by the timekeepers. He obviously was wondering what Level alluded to at the end and probably wants to stop any chance of an attack. Too bad he wasn't here at the start of the show."
[John:] "Next up we have a long awaited match between two former rivals. While these two have butted heads in PW-W, they have not faced off in UBL yet. Instead, Shady has been antagonizing, harrassing, and distracting Juan from his matches. Some even say that distraction cost Juan his chance at the NEXUS Title in the finals of the original tournament earlier this year. Another question is WHY Shady is doing this and he hasn't been entirely clear. He had some cryptic words for someone in UBL and then immediately attacked Leche afterwards. Whether this is due to some unsettled business in PW-W or as Orochi Geese put it, "Shady insanity" is really unknown. But after months of being targetted, Leche demanded this match to get some measure of understanding...and perhaps a bit of revenge for the NEXUS distractions. Can he do it?"

[John:] "And Shady showed that he meant business here. Juan gave a good fight but there's something in Shady's eyes that tells me he feels wronged in some way. Why he is taking it out on Leche is confusing as Juan has always been an upstanding guy. So we are left wondering why this is happening, especially since Shady is now walking out before making any attempt to clarify what's going through his mind. Is Geese correct that Shady rarely has any idea of what is going on or is there a deeper method to Shady's madness? In either case, Shady has picked up his first official UBL win in impressive fashion."
Juan Leche (X) ["We stand on gUard for thee" - 14:02] (O) Shady
[John:] "We now come to the main event of the evening. At Battle Formation, Karl Wunderlin defeated Gene Starr to win the NEXUS Championship. It was a grueling match and not without some controversy as Karl hit his finisher, the Caterpillar Crash on a chair, right in front of the referee's eyes. Granted, it was Gene Starr who originally brought the chair into the win so any good intentions of his have to be doubted. One thing that can't be doubted though was the quality of that match as many UBL fans have already voted it the "UBL Match of the Year." I doubt that gave Gene much relief but he is ready to give his best performance tonight. Can Karl Wunderlin, a quiet but intense wrestler, defend his newly won title against a multiple international champion like Gene Starr? And will tonight's ref call things down the middle?"

[John:] "Another hell of a match here! Those two can really go! There's plenty to wonder about here in UBL with some of our more...disgruntled and confused wrestlers but you look at guys like Karl and Gene and see why that NEXUS Title has meaning. But for Karl, that title no longer has a place on his mantle as Gene decisively won this match with his finisher, the Gene Splicer. Karl had his chances and came very close to defending his title but the fire in Gene's eyes was perhaps stronger then in any other match of his UBL career. Gene Starr is your new, and 2 time, UBL NEXUS Champion. And Karl Wunderlin had a short but impressive reign. You gotta figure it's gonna eat at him to lose it on his first defense though."
Gene Starr (O) ["Gene Splicer" - 22:02] (X) Karl Wunderlin
[John:] "Fans, we'll see you at the January Circuit Show where a new #1 Contender for the NEXUS Title will be decided. It looks like we're done so- wait...what the hell? Why is the Battle-Tron flickering?"
*The BattleTron turns on and we see an image of the training room in Bakumatsu Arena: specifically, the practice ring that many of the wrestlers use before the show to prepare for their matches. In it we see a bloodied and beaten Jang Bae (wearing a Kirin Dojo shirt) in the middle of the ring with his head being held by WholenothaLevel. Level winds up and hits a WholenothaLariat, flipping Jang inside out and knocking him unconscious. Level grins at the camera and it doesn't take long for Thunder to jump out of the audience and runs backstage. We see him enter the other room and roll into the ring.*
[John:] "Folks - it looks like we have an impromptu fight here - this match is not sanctioned by UBL but for some reason a UBL referee has come down, maybe to mitigate any potential damage of a fight without an official present! That's probably a good idea cause Strike and Level have begun laying into each other with vicious elbows and punches! This is gonna get worse before it gets better!"

[John:] "I don't think we've ever seen Thunder Strike knocked out like that before. Yes, I said earlier that he had a 30 minute tag match just a few weeks ago and I'm sure that in large part caused his defenses to be down but we've seen him do some pretty amazing things...and this time, he just didn't have enough. Level absolutely obliterated him with that F6 and took much of his best offense. The fans are absolutely shocked at yet another hero of theirs being dismantled like this tonight."
Thunder Strike (X) ["F6" KO - 12:09] (O) WholenothaLevel
[John:] "And they've gone from 'shocked' to 'appalled' as Level's onslaught has not let up. He brings a chair into the ring, smashes Strike on the upper back, then on the face. He puts the chair down and looks to be hoisting Thunder up for ANOTHER F6 - one on the chair, no less!"
[John:] "This isn't good - but help is on the way! Thunder's J.U.S.T.I.C.E. teammate Jason Hyde has run down and dropkicked Level in the stomach, causing him to fall backwards, but he's still holding Thunder in the F6 position. He even manages to push kick Jason away at the same time! Jason is able to kick the chair out from under him though so that's a good sign but we still have a knocked out Thunder in danger of taking another severe blow. And Jason is unsure of what to do...but suddenly from behind Level, a large man in a black mask comes in - it's the Marauder! He gets into the ring and Level turns just in time to get speared by the huge Marauder! Thunder gets flipped over Level's shoulders and rolls off Marauder's back, landing fairly safely on the mat while Level bails out of the ring, rubbing his chest but not appearing all that hurt.
[John:] "Still, Level doesn't get back into the ring: a smart move as going up against a fresh Jason and Marauder is NOT a good idea. Marauder seems fired up too and that has to be due to Thunder Strike and Jason saving Marauder against Naja Mask. Marauder just returned the favor but it appears this isn't just about paying them back, but being legitimately concerned about Thunder's health. Marauder has found himself on the wrong side of the fan's eyes in the past but he is defending Thunder with the same ferocity we have seen him defend Naja in the past. And the fans are certainly giving him credit here. But they are also, we all are, concerned about Thunder Strike's health. Well, all except for Level and likely a certain owner backstage. Somehow I doubt he's all that broken up. But before i get fired, I better bring this to a close. We'll see you at the next Circuit show and Jean should be bringing you a Battalion soon as well."
