*We open up inside the Dojo in the UBL wing of the Peter Venkman Memorial Arena. This is a place that the TV audience only sees during Orochi-O's TV matches. But we (the wall-breaking fans) have seen in previous Luke Kisiera training promos with Clyde and Figaro. Right now, a number of hopeful Front Lines members are watching as two men are sparring in the ring. One man is wearing blue, black and white tights while the other is in plain black shorts. The former is clearly in control and is hitting an array of snap suplexes on his opponent. He fakes going for a third and then transitions into a back grapple where he executes a backdrop hold for the 1-2-3. He shakes the opponents hand and goes over to his corner to wipe the sweat off his forehead. Only then does he notice Drake Yoshida who had been watching the match from the floor area.*
[Drake:] "Nice maneuver Mr. Rivers."
*Matt nods and begins his post match stretching.*
[Matt:] "Appreciated. What can I do for you, Sergeant?"
[Drake:] "The question today is what can I do for you."
[Matt:] "That is certainly a question I wasn't expecting you to ask."
[Drake:] "Certain heroic actions of yours have brought that inquiry into being. As you may have heard, I recently rewarded Luke Kisiera with a spot on the Front Lines roster due to his assistance to the hurt Goro and Marauder at the October Open. As you participated in the same protective efforts, I would also like to reward you. But we must figure out another way, due to your current Front Line placement."
[Matt:] "With all due respect and gratitude, I did what I did because it was the right thing to do. I wasn't looking for a reward. I know Luke wasn't either, but he already deserved to be on the roster anyway. His actions just gave everyone the chance to see that."
[Drake:] "Yes, it is true that Luke's reward was merely my recognition of his virtues rather then an unearned bonus. But the very same goes for you, Mr. Rivers. Before the Open, I already thought quite highly of your abilities. That is why I had Arthur specifically challenge you this past week. Please understand that my half brother and I do not get along very well. I was hoping that you would defeat him and teach him a lesson in modesty."
[Matt:] "Whatever your personal issues are, he's legit in the ring. I was shocked when he kicked out of my "Chancery of Rain" only to pin me a second later: and a second before the 15 minute mark. He earned that victory... and. honestly, my respect."
[Drake:] "Yes but even though he eeked out the win at the very end, the fact remains that you still had an incredibly impressive performance against someone with years more experience and accomplishments then you. Much as you did against Elwood and many others since you have arrived. And now I want to give you an opportunity to wrestle even more people like Elwood and Arthur. As your reward, I want to offer you a swap match for the opportunity to join the Main roster."
*Matt doesn't appear surprised. Rather, he starts walking around the ring a bit, thinking about what to say.*
[Matt:] "I appreciate the opportunity, sir. But...I have to decline."
*Drake DOES appear quite surprised by this, almost angry. Meanwhile, the nearby wrestlers start to pay more attention to this conversation.*
[Drake:] "I am...disheartened to hear this. Are you, perhaps, considering more full time work for another promotion?"
*Matt senses he's offended Drake and backpedals a bit on his confident body language. He puts up his hands and shakes his head.*
[Matt:] "Oh no, It's nothing like that, sir. I've proudly made UBL my home even if I do enjoy occasionally wrestling in other promotion's tournaments. But my reason for declining the swap match is actually based on what you said. While I do need to wrestle different opponents with more experience, I also need to wrestle more opponents with different styles. And even more importantly, addlitional opponents with more intensity. Right now, in my opinion, the Front Lines is the best place for that."
[Drake:] "You make an interesting argument but Mr. Rivers, the best wrestlers are clearly on the Main Roster."
[Matt:] "Look at Mark Spirals. Did you see how badly he wanted to win those two Swap Matches? That desperate hunger he had? I want to face people in exactly that frame of mind. Wrestlers who are fresh from training in different countries who want to prove themselves and their styles in UBL. The Front Lines is the place for that, Sergeant."
*Drake is quiet for a few seconds, clearly deep in thought. Meanwhile even more wrestlers have gathered around to listen to this conversation, looking proudly at Matt for representing them.*
[Drake:] "I can accept your reasoning but I am not going to leave it at just that. You still deserve a level of distinction for your overall ability, recent actions, mindset, and dedication to this roster: A distinction that I can use to my advantage in better organizing swap matches. Before today I saw you as the unofficial best of the Front Lines but the results of this conversation will formalize that."
*Matt is looking a bit embarrassed and kind of waves off what Drake is saying.*
[Matt:] "I'm really not looking for any reward for my thoughts today, sir-"
[Drake:] "Then how about a responsibility...and a title?"
*Now Matt, and the nearby wrestlers, look extremely confused.*
[Drake:] "Congratulations Mr. Rivers, you are the new Field Leader of the Front Lines. I will announce exactly what that means in the weeks to come. Until then, keep doing what you are doing in this gym and leave the rest to me. You keep inspiring and competing with this roster and everyone will get better as a result. And that benefits the entire UBL."
*Drake nods at Matt who looks more surprised now then confused but nods back. Many of the wrestlers get in the ring and shake Matt's hand, despite no one knowing exactly what he just did or received, while a few others walk away looking jealous. Drake smiles at the split reaction and leaves the gym as Matt stands in the middle of the ring unsure as whether to celebrate or be embarrassed at being singled out for this new and unexplained distinction.*
