From the desk of Sergeant Drake Yoshida,
I have three announcements to make. The latter two will change the very structure of the UBL.
1) Corey O'Brian emerged the winner during the main event of Orochi-O's TV Episode 20. It is clear to me that his a forceful performance was fueled by his anger at getting constantly double teamed in the October Open Nexus Title match by Gene Starr and our new Champion, Julian Caesaro. Now Corey has earned another match with Julian for his NEXUS Title at OG-FPD Ragnarok and I will preemptively mention that there has to be a winner, given their draw in September.
2) I would like to thank Matt Rivers for contributing to this next topic. I recently discussed with him the possibility of a reward for assistance of Marauder and Goro against the reprehensible actions of Snake Mountain at the October Open. Matt turned down a Swap Match to get onto the Main Roster and instead espoused his enjoyment of being on the Front Lines to face many new, different, and hungry opponents. As a result of his desire and my previous recognition of him being the best of the Front Lines roster, I have created and bestowed onto him a new Championship title.
Universal Battle League: Front Lines Field Leader.
This title comes with quite a few rules, requirements, and privileges that I will be posting officially in the section of our website for important documents. I hope that this new position and rule set will help establish clarity and order to the Swap Match process, one that has been questioned in recent months. For those concerned that I have hand-picked the first Leader, you'll soon get your chance to question his legitimacy in the ring. Mr. Rivers wanted to face the hungriest on the roster and there are few hungrier then those who witness someone else awarded what they want by subjective determination of authority.
3) I have exciting news for every tag team as well as fans who stuck with us during a particularly long Battalion League.
Afer Figaro, Clyde, and Celes took the bait at the Battalion Finale, Orochi Geese has wanted their impending undoing at Ragnarok to be the focus of these last six months. However, he and I have not lost sight of the fact that the 2008 Battalion dominated our promotion for over two years. No previous Battalion had taken more then six months so this was something considerably more then we have ever held. A league trophy that was fought over so strenuously and continuously for that duration should not be left merely as is. It can not be left merely in the past with good faith. When wrestlers fight this hard over such a duration, the award and very league transforms into something greater and less finite. So now I want to formalize the evolution of the League trophy.
The Universal Battalion League and Trophy have now become the Universal Battalion Division and Championship. A Title to be defended throughout the year: such as the NEXUS Championship and Field Leader Title are.
However, there is a small matter to be taken care of before these belts can go into regular circulation. That small matter...is who the Champions actually are. Due to the fact that J.U.S.T.I.C.E. took on a few extra members at the end, thanks to the Dods and LRI cowardly attacks, we must decide who the permanent Champions are. I have no objections to the Battalion Title retaining the league "Freegoosebird Rule" of a faction of 3 holding the Belts and circulating 2 members per match. But the 5 member circulation of J.U.S.T.I.C.E. is simply too much to hold one tag team belt: It would not be fair to other teams.
Johnny Bingo has returned to England and did not resign an active contract with us so he is out of consideration for now. Of course, he will still be credited as a member of the Battalion Championship 2008=10 league winning team. That accomplishment and lofty spot in our history will forever remain, as will his heroism in returning the way he did.
So we are left with 4 members of J.U.S.T.I.C.E: Jang Bae, Thunder Strike, Jason Hyde, and Kyle Walker. I have spoken with all of them individually and they all wish to remain eligible for being Tag Champion. After Ragnarok we will have a decisive title match to determine who the Battalion Champions will be from that point forward:
Jang Bae and Thunder Strike will face Jason Hyde and Kyle Walker.
For those wondering what will become of the historic Battalion League, do not dismay. It will remain and return at a later date, after the next Universal Championship league planned for 2011. However, the Battalion league will be smaller and shorter as the award will now just be a guaranteed shot against the Battalion Champions. In the event we do not have a Champion team at the start of future Battalions, only then will the Titles be the award for winning the league.
With all these new incentives on the line, it is my belief that Ragnarok and the UBL itself will see a higher degree of competition then we have ever had before. The stakes have risen so it is up to all of you to rise with them to stay relevant and respected.
