"Debasement" Tour – Show 3
Original Taping: July 26, 2019
Broadcast Date: July 28, 2019
Location: "Peter Venkman Memorial Arena" in Westchester, New York.
The fans chant “Pe-ter Venk-man” as the show begins and are in a jovial mood. And why not!? Two UBL shows in two months? That’s cause for celebration and nostalgia! Since Bonnie Tyler’s “I Need a Hero” was the “inappropriate for pro wrestling” song* that started last month’s show, maybe “If I could turn back time” is fitting for this one!
*True to form, a few smarks on OGJoshifan.net message boards absolutely eviscerated (with rudeness!) the opening segment of the June show as a result of “I need a Hero” playing. They even started a “Cancel UBL” movement. It gained zero ground because UBL lacks a subscription model but the amount of “likes” they got on their posts allowed them to sleep soundly for days! Keep marching forward, brave and well-adjusted internet warriors!
We dive right into action tonight as Tetsu Gushiken defends his Universal Circuit Title against Wang Gom-Bu. Kurt Sanders is still in physical possession of the Circuit Title belt itself but, for legal reasons has been advised not to show up tonight. (For real, a wrestler that you are being told “isn’t in the building” on a wrestling show is literally not in the building. My swerves involve returning wrestlers from 10 years ago, not GPS-based shenanigans!)
Wang Gom-Bu, the challenger, is first down to the ring. This is his first official shot at the Title under Tetsu’s reign but it’s actually his second bite of this circuitous apple. Wang made it to the semi-finals of the Circuit Title Tournament last year, defeating Tsaoring Chou but losing to Kurt Sanders. Many believe that Wang was the favorite in that tournament due to his size. He was also the #1 seed through winning the qualifying elimination Battle Royale. It has taken Wang months to get another shot and he looks determined to not squander this one. And not only would Wang like to win the Title today, but he’d like to avenge his loss to Kurt by facing him as the Champion at “ALL YOUR BASE” in December.
Wang is up against a Champion, in Tetsu Gushiken, who suffered a setback last month but has slowly begun to right the ship. Tetsu was tricked and subsequently tapped out to a handshake cross arm breaker from Kurt Sanders in a tag match last month. However, Tetsu then defended his title a few weeks later against the mysterious Jean DuBreil. Wang is the largest opponent that Tetsu has ever faced in a wrestling ring. Although training against his own teammate RYOMA has certainly helped, Wang is still taller, wider, and more physically imposing. This will literally be the biggest test of Tetsu’s Championship reign, but he appears primed for it by the look in his eyes.

Tetsu Gushiken did not have an easy or straight forward road to this victory. First he had to fight off Wang’s new punishing submission hold. Then he benefited by Wang’s inability to follow up his "Himusolaya" (Muso) with a pin due to his fatigue. One has to commend Tetsu for his gameplan in exhausting Wang throughout the match with irish whips and offense to the legs. Tetsu’s finisher then secured him the victory.
Wang Gom-Bu (X) [”Tetsu SHOCK” – 14:29] (O) Tetsu Gushiken
Tetsu extends his hand to Wang who stares at him for a few minutes with a stoic expression before finally returning the gesture with a firm handshake. The two men bow to each other.

Ruby Moreno comes out to an empty front row seat, shows her ticket to the usher with a smirk, then sits down to watch the upcoming match. The other fans seated near her quickly move into the aisle and convince themselves that this is a good time to purchase both refreshments and Destiny merchandise.
Sirius Mask comes out to a chorus of “Ruby hates you!” *Clap Clap ClapClapClap* which draws a bemused look and nod from Ruby. Sirius Mask shrugs her shoulders at this then begins warm-up exercises in the ring. Ruby is taking copious notes of every movement that Sirius displays. A fan behind Ruby peers over her shoulder to look at the notes then turns pale as Ruby shows him the note which apparently says: “We see you…[fan name redacted]” – this earns Ruby her note taking privacy back…the privacy to figure out the private identity of Sirius Mask, that is.
Jeff Monroe is out next and looks as robotic as he has since returning to the UBL two years ago. Jack Monroe doesn’t accompany him but it’s likely he’s close by. At the very least, he's in the building, which is still more than I can say for Kurt Sanders. This is Jeff’s first singles match since losing to Yoshirozuna last summer. Although still formidable last year leading up to the Universal Battalion Title match against El Exilio, Jeff has not seemed to regain the dominance he had before being injured by Geese 10 years ago. The question now is whether he is able to even wrestle due to the injuries he sustained seven months ago at the hands of El Exilio after the Title match. The punishment that both he and Jack sustained was so excessive that it was a shock to everyone that both Monroes returned last month to interfere on behalf of Matthew Rivers and attack his opponents. None of these supposed injuries, or the knowledge of them, appears to be burdening Jeff right now. He marches to the ring seemingly without any emotion in the world.
Match 2: Sirius Mask vs. Jeff Monroe
All doubts of Jeff’s physical abilities disappear within moments as he appears as agile and powerful as ever. He lunges at Sirius, closing the distance between them quicker than Sirius expected, and fires off a massive lariat. This rocks Sirius so hard that he spins in the air. This is shocking enough, but becomes even more so when Sirius manages to hit an almost impossible looking aerial-based enzuigiri follow-up to Jeff! Both competitors are on the mat mere seconds after starting the match, due to underestimating each other’s athleticism. The fans are on their feet with a “This is awesome” chant.
I don’t know how many more of these jousting exchanges each of them have in them, but mercifully they don’t try. Instead, they begin to feel each other out. Sirius takes the advantage here with with basic takedowns using his slightly superior speed and clearly superior technical abilities. Given Jeff’s massive strength and size, it’s impressive he is as quick as he is but Sirius has the clear edge in this style of wrestling. Furthermore, Sirius seems equally adept at ending these sequences with pins, submission attempts, and stunning strikes which leaves Jeff open for combination finishes. Sirius doesn't linger on any of these techniques for too long. Within five minutes, Sirius has managed a few two-counts, submission attempts to Jeff’s arms and legs, and multiple strikes to Jeff’s shoulders, knees, and thighs. The only thing in the arena quicker than Sirius’ combinations are Ruby’s pen as she takes down everything that Sirius is doing.
She shouts: “Stage 2” and Jeff immediately pushes Sirius off of him as if he was holding back the entire time. He charges forward with his shoulder, knocking down his smaller opponent. Jeff applies a rear chinlock. At first he appears to utilize a full sleeper hold looking to end the match but Ruby shouts out: “Not now” and he defaults to more of a wear down hold than a true submission. Ruby smiles as Sirius is staring right at her. It’s becoming clear that Jeff Monroe may not be trying to finish this match as quickly as possible but is, instead, helping Ruby scout Sirius on offense and defense.
This infuriates Sirius who uses incredible, physiology-testing, flexibility to thrust two feet right into Jeff’s face despite being held in the chinlock. Ruby underlines something she just wrote. Sirius looks at Ruby, then at Jeff, then at the referee. Jeff charges again at Sirius but Sirius ducks, then grabs Jeff from behind in a hold that is not clear. Moreover, Sirius is making sure to shield his actions from Ruby by keeping Jeff in front while keeping the referee in back of Sirius. Ruby shouts out in frustration “Impeded view!” but Jeff is unsure of what to do. Before Jeff has the chance to figure it out, it’s too late. All of a sudden, he falls down to the mat as his eyes roll up in his head. Sirius makes the cover and scores the shocking pinfall! No one even knows what move Sirius used or applied or summoned to defeat him.
Sirius Mask (O) [“Vulcan Death Grip” - 8:50] (X) Jeff Monroe
Sirius Mask (O) [“Move 1004: Armbar” - 8:50] (X) Jeff Monroe

Sirius Mask (O) [“Power of the Push” - 8:50] (X) Jeff Monroe
Sirius Mask (O) [Mystery Maneuver - 8:50] (X) Jeff Monroe
Sirius goes backstage while Ruby hops over the crowd divider, enters the ring, and rouses Jeff Monroe with smelling salts. It appears she expected Jeff to potentially be knocked out, but certainly not by what occurred here. After giving him a few seconds, they walk backstage to no further incident. Ruby holds up her notebook at the end of the ramp, then drops it, with a look of frustration on her face. Apparently, she has not figured out Sirius’ identity yet! Have you!?

JET Hamada and Barton Miller come down to the ring first for their shot at the Universal Battalion Championship. These two are former Battalion Champions together and Barton has held the Title on multiple occasions with Naja Mask. They are met with complete support by the fans and show their gratitude. JET has added more muscle and Barton is wearing a darker shade of his gear than we’ve seen him in a while. Perhaps the spirit of the “Marauder” is coming out tonight!?
The Champions known as “El Exilio” - El Fantasma Pálido and Yoshirozuna - come out to the ring next. Although JET and Barton got full crowd support, El Exilio are not without their fans as well, despite being so antagonistic to their opponents and other wrestlers. It appears that both teams are well respected even though Pálido and Yoshirozuna have been so violent as of late. Yoshirozuna was Barton’s former student and JET’s former training partner. There is a lot of bad blood on both sides here given the way that Yoshirozuna left their alliance and each side’s feelings of betrayal. JET also appears to be focused on Pálido who he at least partially blames for Yoshirozuna’s change in attitude. There is nothing close to a handshake but we do get an extended stare down between the teams before Eiji Yoshida officially starts the match.

Everyone is surprised by the abrupt stop to the action. Eiji has elected to pause the match as JET Hamada immediately runs over to Barton. Although it was not clear to the fans watching in the audience, Barton spit up blood after being on the receiving end of his own long-time “Proton Accelerator” finisher: this time performed on him by Yoshirozuna. Despite Barton not being the legal man, JET shouts a concession of victory to Eiji and a request for medical help.
Barton/JET (X) [Referee Stoppage – 21:46] (O) El Fantasma Pálido/Yoshirozuna
Despite the rather dominant circumstances, El Exilio look frustrated at the indecisive way this match ended. Yoshirozuna walks to Barton and JET and shouts out “Quitters!” which causes JET to shove him back. Pálido responds with a hard slap to JET’s face. JET tries his best to show restraint, screaming to Yoshirozuna to have respect for his sensei and to quit dishonoring himself and everyone in the ring. This enrages Yoshirozuna who then screams: “You wanna see respect? Here’s what I owe him” and then blows two sumo-sized snot rockets on the injured body of Barton. JET is about to snap. He takes a step forward but is suddenly held back by an old familiar face!
It's Naja Mask!
(Like I said, my swerves involve returning wrestlers from 10 years ago, not GPS-based shenanigans!)
Naja whispers(ssss) something to JET who takes a few moments but then nods his head. The two stand in front of the downed Barton, presenting a united front against El Exilio. Thunder Strike and Goro Yamashita then storm down to the ring with determined faces leading UBL security as medics cautiously follow behind them. El Exilio immediately leave the ring at this point since Thunder and Goro both look as angry at them and concerned about Barton as JET and Naja do.
The show ends as medical staff strap Barton to a stretcher and El Exilio hold up their Universal Battalion Championship Title belts on the ramp. More fans are booing them now as a result of their actions after the match but they don't care.
We will see you in August for the next stop of the Debased Tour!
