UBL Open show - July 22nd, 2007.
Yet another Open show is upon us and is welcomed by the fans in attendance with lots of cheers, overall enthusiasm, and even a few flashings from some summer-spirited females (and males...). All this shows that they are ready to be entertained and perhaps even INSPIRED...but likely just the former.
As we saw last time, there are once again prominent members of Orochi Army in the front row: Orochi Geese, Holly, Kyle Walker, and this time Mr. Figaro as well. They're all in jovial spirit due to recent in ring success and are ready for a night of action just like the rest of the fans. Let's kick it to the ring!
But wait!! Someone is coming to the ring and they do NOT appear to be one of the participants of the first match! In fact, it's none other then Naja Mask, a member of the Universal Champion League! He has a microphone and is approaching the Orochi Army section of the audience!
Naja Mask: "Geeeessss...you will pay for what you did to Marauder last ssssshow!"
*OrochiGeese smirks and shrugs Naja off*
Naja: "I will not leave here until you reverse the decisssion against Marauder! Give him the win!"
*OrochiGeese begins laughing, along with Holly and Mr. Figaro. Naja gets in his face and is then slapped dismissively by Geese! Naja takes a step backwards, considers his next move...and then*
PHWOOSH!
The green mist! Only...OrochiGeese ducked it!! However, the person in back of Geese, didn't! OG-Joshi World Champion Holly now has a face full of green mist and her eyes appear to be burning!!
*Naja appears to be enjoying this but then WHAM!! Kyle Walker just propelled himself over the barrier with a flying forearm, sending Naja reeling backwards with the shock and impact of the blow! Naja retreats to the ring as OG motions to the back causing UBL referee Kenshin to run to ringside.*
*OG has a microphone now and is addressing Kyle*
OG: "You want Naja?"
*Kyle nods forcefully as he looks at the be-misted Holly, who has been helped backstage by medical staff*
OG: "Whenever you want to have a match here, you are welcome. But since you didn't want any charges of nepotism due to Holly, you wanted some time to earn your way here. However, given the situation-"
*Kyle speaks into the microphone*
Kyle: "Geese, I'm kicking that snake's ass, NOW. Official match or not. NO ONE messes with my sis."
*OG grins approvingly as Kyle jets into the ring and, folks, it looks like we have an impromptu match! And the first ever UBL match of Kyle Walker's young career Against the veteran Naja Mask!!*

*Kyle Walker has won his first UBL match against the crafty Naja Mask! They each came close to victory many times throughout the match. And due to each other's counters and resilience, they each seemed to be deadlocked by the end until Kyle used his superior speed to counter Naja into a roll-up pin!
Kyle Walker (O) [Roll-up Pin - 21:48] (X) Naja Mask
But this situation does not look to be over as OrochiGeese isn't content with just Kyle's victory, he wants to take full revenge on Naja for the attack on Holly. OG slides a chair into the ring, then climbs in. He hits Naja with a uraken and then grabs his arms from behind so that he's helpless. Then he tells Kyle to pick up the chair. Kyle picks up the chair and is about to smash Naja when something catches his eye. He turns and notices that Holly is back in the audience (with a new shirt and some wet hair). He then takes his time to consider his next move given that Holly appears to be fine. But Kyle takes SO much time deciding what to do that Naja is actually SAVED by Thunder Strike and Jang Bae who run down the aisle with chairs as well. OG and Kyle bails out as Thunder Strike eyes Kyle with a confused expression. Kyle and OG go back to their place in the audience after security escorts Thunder Strike, Jang, and Naja backstage. Holly congratulates Kyle for his victory while Geese looks a bit more conflicted and orders the show to continue.*
*Park Hyun-Soo comes down to the ring to a fair amount of applause from those who were present at the June show and remember his debut efforts. A few fans are even shown in new Hyun-Soo t-shirts: (Front) "Facing me..." (Back) "ain't no day in the Park." Clever! He's soon followed by his opponent, making his UBL debut, one Johnny Brooke. Already "Brooke broke ya" shirts are in seen in the audience, a testament to the power of a good catch phrase and really aggressive sales teams in the Peter Venkman Arena. The two get in the ring, ready to scrap, as Park extends for a handshake...only to get his hand slapped away by Brooke who looks disinterested in such gestures and ready to get his fight on! *A great debut by Johnny Brooke who uses a jujigatame to make Park Hyun-Soo tap out after a match filled with counters and expert mat work from both competitors! And while quite impressive, Johnny Brooke's victory is not without a lot of resistance and a high spirited display of offense by the young man known as the "Burning Kid", Park Hyun Soo. Both men get a big ovation for their efforts!*
Johnny Brooke (O) ["Jujigatame" - 15:36] (X) Park Hyun-Soo
And it's now time for one of the most heavily anticipated matches of this show...if by 'anticipation' one means 'a persistent sense of dread that results in night terrors'. As this next match has been affectionately called the "Evil of Evils" match and for no ordinary reason. The hapless vampire, Jakob Furis goes up against the satanic french mime, la Marquis de Douleur in what is sure to be a match that will be talked about on obscure internet wrestling smark fan forums for DAYS (if not WEEKS) to come!
*"Mad at God" by Deicide hits the speakers as the Marquis 'mimes' his way down to ringside. This involves what UBL fans THINK is his attempt at rolling himself down the aisle in a giant spherical hamster ball. When a fan throws a hotdog at him (wtf? Those things are expensive!), he merely attempts to REPAIR the part of the hamster sphere that was injured by the hot dog and carries on with his mime ways.*
*This, of course, has just about set both Holly and Mr. Figaro helpless on the floor with hysterical laughter as they play along with his act. Holly even attempts to convince Kyle that there really IS a giant hamster sphere but Kyle reminds her that 'he's not five anymore' as he so delicately puts it. OG is reassured by his down to earth reaction and perks up as Holly berates them both for 'ruining the illusion' for her and sits down to pout. She is heard to say: "Can't a girl who just got sprayed with poison slime enjoy the freaking side show freak!?" Kyle pats her on the back as a show of support while quickly rolling his eyes.*
*'Trans-Transylvanian Orchestra' is next to play on the speakers as the notorious Jakob Furis comes down to the ring...what? you don't believe me that he just simply walked down? Well, if you insist on knowing what really happened, that's fine by me, buster. I'm just trying to help your sanity out here! But yeah...Furis came down with his cape over his head as if he was flying like a bat. This backfired on him as someone 'accidentally' rocketed their foot out causing Furis to stumble awkwardly into the ring apron. It was hard to tell who did it but basically EVERYONE in the arena claimed responsibility, even those not within remote physical proximity. For the sake of an accurate record of events, it was actually Mr. Figaro who did it, but I'd like to think the fans worked THROUGH him, in this situation. In any event, both combatants are now in the ring. Furis hisses at Marquis and makes throat-cutting and biting gestures while yelling stuff about his castle. Marquis plays rather coy and attempts to hand Furis a bouquet of (imaginary) flowers...only for Furis to then get hit with (imaginary) water shooting into his eyes. And we're off!*

And while it would be shocking to even IMAGINE the paragon of ring saavy, Jakob Furis, making a mistake...it's even more debilitating for the soul to WITNESS it. As Jakob apparently saw it fit to climb up the turnbuckle and attempt his "Bat Dive" onto Marquis de Douleur but missed by a good mile in quite comical fashion! Marquis is no amateur when it comes to playing possum and he used his mime ACTING prowess to sucker Furis into thinking he was vulnerable for a top rope move, only to then escape out of danger while Furis was stuck in the air with no way to save himself! Marquis then immediately took advantage by pinning an exasperated and flattened Furis! Le Marquis leaves the ring without further incident but as soon as Furis comes to, he realizes that he is bleeding and JETS backstage while covering his face. Figaro makes a snide remark about him being an honorary KENTA! Army tart, but its doubtful Furis heard or even knew what Figaro was referring to. In any case, it appears that Marquis has been victorious in his UBL debut match as well as the first one to hand Jakob Furis a defeat in his career!
Marquis (O) ["Taking advantage of Furis incompetence" - 19:10] (X) Furis
*It is now time for the ceremonial changing of the ring aprons from UBL to BINGO-1. As that is taking place, we get some brief entertainment in the meantime as Mr, Figaro grabs a mic from a ring attendant and treats the arena to an impromptu promo from his seat:
Figaro: "Listen here ya jibberjabbers! I'm the biggest, meanest, largest, in-chargest, hoss of a wrestler you will EVER see! Geese pushed back my Open Challenge to the August show and I'm once again reminding everyone, anyone, and all in between to step up and test me then! I beat Eddie Swan last show, I can beat YOU. And I'll prove it next month!! Come one and come all, especially if you're a chick-"
OG grabs Figaro's microphone and whispers "they get the point" while grinning.
And it's now time for the next match as both BINGO-1 teams come to the ring, with Big Ben getting a very um...BIG reaction from the fans based on his tremendous size as he takes his time getting to the ring. The man is like four times the size of Kyle Walker, for pete's sake!! But what is especially impressive is the fact that his opponents do not seem to be intimidated in the least, and are ready to start this match!

And a great match this was with both teams putting on a clinic in tag team wrestling! Numerous double teams with a variety of attacks and a lot of innovative moves kept the crowd on their feet! In the end, the Ultimate Cristofah managed to sneak a win over Big Stevie Cool after Stevie no doubt expected Cristofah to go for yet another power move rather then a school boy roll-up. Cristofah showed a lot of range here in going power for power with Big Ben during earlier parts of the match but then knowing when to use his speed against Stevie. And in the end, it seemed that both Cristofah and Delphin benefited from the superior mobility that Big Ben did not have. However, both teams are to be applauded and, what do you know, they ARE being applauded by the UBL fans who were very happy to witness such a great match!
JD Delphin/Cristofah (O) [Backslide pin -31:15] (X) Big Stevie Cool/Big Ben
And now it is time for a rematch from last show as Mr. Clyde takes on Jang Bae yet again after the very competitive, but ultimately losing, effort Jang Bae gave in his debut UBL match. Clyde comes to the ring and receives support from his ringside Orochi Army cheering section, notably Mr. Figaro who actually IS giving cheerleader style cheers...to the mild annoyance of Geese, bewilderment of Kyle, and the total chagrin of Clyde. Jang Bae comes to the ring soon after and is flanked by Thunder Strike...who is quickly thrown out of the area by Geese-initiated security due to earlier events. Nice try Thunder Strike. Jang Bae doesn't seem deterred by this though as Clyde has been pretty honorable about keeping their rivalry contained to 1 on 1 matches rather then Orochi Army style beatdowns. And as further support of that, Clyde once again touches gloves with Jang Bae to start the match. So what are we waiting for? Let's watch it!

Though their rematch ended the same, via Mr. Clyde's "Shadow Fang" (seated Chickenwing Facelock), it certainly took a lot more effort for Clyde to win then last time! Jang Bae made good on his promise to show how much more comfortable he has gotten in a wrestling ring but fell just short of actually being able to defeat Clyde. Still, considering this was just Jang Bae's third professional wrestling match, a lot can be said about his current skill not to mention his potential. And that can be seen through the excitement of the fans as well as the post-match bow by Mr. Clyde. This rivalry may have just gotten even more interesting as there is something Clyde must see in Jang to give him the respect he has given him so far. Clyde even waves off Figaro from any post-match attack attempts and allows Jang to go back to the locker room unscathed. Meanwhile, Orochi Geese congratulates Clyde for yet another hard fought victory.
Mr. Clyde (O) ["Shadow Fang" - 26:30] (X) Jang Bae
Our next match is a big six man tag match between two up and coming factions: Generation NEON and the Canada Brothers. Of note is that both teams are joined by their female managers. GeNEON is flanked by the LAWL OMG Champion Ruby Moreno...who this time is totally ignoring Holly's verbal barbs, unlike the previous Open where the two almost came to blows. And the Canada Brothers are joined by their sister, Canada Meg, who is making her first professional wrestling appearance tonight as the charge for her team! Both women, but especially Ruby, are the subject of merciless mocking by Holly AND Mr. Figaro: who seems to be less concerned with echoing Holly's claims of superiority then mentioning the alternate merits of his idol, Kim Cross. Ruby dismisses both claims as Canada Meg just tries to wisely stay out of this weird pyramid of joshi egos and instead focus on talking strategy with her team. Will it pay off? Let's see!

Ok, so maybe it DIDN'T pay off in an actual victory, but Canada Brothers still looked very impressive, in their first match since OG-FPD disbanded, despite this close loss to a focused geNEON. And this was a geNEON that showed the kind of teamwork it takes to possibly advance far in next year's Universal Battalion League next year. But the Canada Brothers also showed many moments in this match where they laid claim to earning entrance into that league as well. In the end though, the wise geNEON strategy of 'cutting the ring in half' supplemented by Dwayne Reade's painful submission arsenal was too much for the trio of the Canada Brothers to bare. Still, the two teams actually shake hands after it's over without incident.
Usher/Wright/Reade (O) ["Shawn Capture" - 26:30] (X) Bob/Doug/Dave
But before geNEON can properly celebrate, someone decides to crash their party: That being Holly! She jumps the rail and attempts to blindside Ruby Moreno! But before she's able to attack her, Holly is startled as she's pushed away by Canada Meg!! Meg isn't happy to see the match end this way with Holly's interference and both she and Ruby stand up to her! Holly goes back to her seat but not without yelling: "You tell Gloria that's just a PREVIEW, Rubes" leading Ruby to roll her eyes and say "Odd, cause I could have sworn you ALREADY just got punked out by two LAWL wrestlers!" Holly looks confused but Canada Meg pulls out a LAWL shirt and puts it on! Looks like there was more going on here between these two teams then what was just on the surface! A rivalry between the men, but perhaps a LAWL based connection between the women designed to give Holly a taste of her coming adventure in August!! What a haphazard angle!
And Holly seems equally confused and grabs a microphone:
Holly: "Whoa, whoa WHOA!! Since when do YOU work under Gloria Reyes' plans?"
Ruby: "Whoa, whoa WHOA? Since when are YOU so quick in cleaning off stuff sprayed on your face?"
*The crowd oohs and 'oh no she din't's as Holly looks speechless with anger*
Ruby: "You are such a cad, Walker. *Ruby rolls her eyes* I don't work for ANYONE. Humiliating you is a pleasure intended for me, and me alone. Although I must admit that as much as I don't like Gloria, nothing will give me more pleasure then watching you get humiliated by HomeLAWL security next month. But giving you a preview of that tonight on your home turf...*Ruby smiles* that tastes pretty damn good too."
*Canada Meg walks up next to Ruby*
Ruby: "Now, it just so happens that I found out earlier tonight that Meg signed with LAWL. And with us both knowing your reputation for cowardly attacks, due to your inability to actually WRESTLE like a real champion, Meg and I formed a brief alliance in case you resorted to your usual tricks. It seemed to have paid off. I'm just surprised Figaro didn't have Kim Cross join in as well, since its rare that the two of them aren't attached by leesh and handle, though its unclear who is on which end. In any case, let's go Meg."
*Meg and Ruby leave along with both male teams as Holly seethes and swears further revenge on LAWL. Figaro seems less then pleased as well but OG urges them both back to their seats in time for....*

The main event! Everyone stirs in their seats in anticipation of this match, a match put together quite suddenly for mysterious reasons. A lot of buzzing is heard in the crowd as to various internet rumors and so forth but things finally settle down as Jeremiah "Frog" Jones makes his way to the ring...wisely, not joined by longtime ring second Dizzy. As after all we saw tonight, putting Dizzy in the same place as a stewing Holly right now would likely lead to World War 3! And it appears that Jones wants to keep things calm before the match begins as he looks rather quiet in comparison to his usual boisterous self. Figaro does not take his evil eye off of him for one second thought, until Eddie Swan comes to the ring. Then Figaro finds a way to put one evil eye on both of them...until he actually FAINTS due to extreme cross-eyed trauma. But with two of his biggest career rivals ready to battle in the ring, its probably best he 'relaxes' a bit!
Swan and Frog look intently at each other and its clear there's no love lost from all that has gone on between them over the last year...not to mention LIFETIME. And who knows what kind of flashback of memories are running through their heads as they are locked in this stare. Two former best friends, training partners, Team Ryder members that had their relationship torn apart due to Frog mercilessly attacking Swan during a McPro show earlier in the year. An attack that stopped Swan from being able to fight Kingpin in a dream match. A dream match that, had Swan been able to compete in, could have saved that previous iteration of McPro. But that issue pales in comparison to the fact that it was Frog, Eddie's best friend, who brutally attacked him out of nowhere and caused that match not to happen. It was Frog who stood in the way of Eddie being able to achieve a dream. And it was Frog who felt that Eddie had been getting special treatment that he didn't deserve, while Frog was getting overlooked. But perceptions aside, the fact is that these two have not had a one on one match since their falling out to settle this dispute. But is a settlement even possible in one match...or at all? Let's see what these two do in the ring to each other as they get ready for a match full of emotions that have been built up NOT just their careers, but their entire lives.

The crowd is speechless, both participants are breathless. They both lie on the mat while gasping for air after going nearly thirty minutes with each other in what appeared to be a total stand off. A deadlock. How either man was able to resist the submission attempts of each other might never be known. The elevated boston crabs of Swan...a move that has made many a wrestler tap out. The repeated elbows in the face of Frog, both rubbing and striking. The various suplexes that were kicked out of. It seems that both men were so intent and prepared for each other's best stuff, that they would NOT stay down.
But in the end, it was Jeremiah Jones who went the unpredictable route. It was Jones who used what might have been his last bit of energy to SURPRISE Eddie Swan with a quick rollup. Swan had prepared for the assault of the "Prince of Elbows", he had prepared for the Dragon Suplexes, but was he ready for the roll-ups? Or did his stamina finally give out? We may never know the answer to that. But in Jones' eyes, it likely doesn't matter. All that matters is the man known so often as the SIDEKICK of Eddie Swan has finally defeated him in an epic clash of wills and skills (and gills...due to each man training with Fishboy in the past). Jeremiah "Frog" Jones has beaten Eddie Swan in a straight up, one on one match...a match where neither man held back, but one man emerged. One amphibious man who finally got his just due.
Jeremiah Jones (O) [Roll-up Pin - 28:47] (X) Eddie Swan
And as both men finally get onto their feet, (while still leaning against the turnbuckles for support) the fans begin chanting for both of them and celebrating the match they just saw. But neither man approaches the other, and they still are staring...but it seems a bit different then the gaze they shared prior to the match. Even if these two wanted to speak, it is doubtful that their feelings right now could even be put into words after all that has happened and the match that just took place. But one thing is for sure, and that's that the fans just witnessed a pivotal match in the careers of each man. And we are left with this scene as the show begins to fade...with Eddie Swan and Jeremiah "Frog" Jones in the ring looking like they are trying to make sense of it all. What conclusions will they come to? Only time will tell.
