Universal Circuit - September 2010
*The UBL Battle Chamber in the Peter Venkman Memorial Arena stirs to life as blue, gold, and white confetti drop from the ceiling. The BattleTron turns on and displays these six matches as our announcer, John Randolph walks to his desk and starts to puts a headset on.*
Match #1: Juan Leche vs. Julian Caesaro
Match #2: Corey O'Brian vs. 'Majin' Black Omen
Match #3: Tiger Sword/Owen Churchill vs. Vulcan Vesuvius/Athrin Cross
Match #4: Koji Keo'ke vs. Chuck "the Ripper" Madrox
Match #5: Cage Match: Damb vs. DPT
Match #6: Winner of Match 1 vs. Winner of Match 2
[John:] "Welcome back to the UBL Reserve Circuit and what a show we have for you tonight. One reason for that is the change in the landscape of UBL's future due to Geese's head turning announcement about OG-FPD Ragnarok. So not only are we building to next month's huge Open show, the culmination of the recent #1 Contenders tournament, but whoever emerges from that show as Champion will get to defend it at Ragnarok which is also the 7th Anniversary of OG-FPD. Quite an honor to make it onto that show as the reigning UBL Nexus Champion, and an even greater challenge to leave with that same honor intact.
But first we have to find out who will be going to next month's Open show to challenge the long time champion, Gene Starr. Juan Leche, Julian Caesaro, 'Majin' Black Omen, and Corey O'Brian all have a chance to do just that, but they will have to win two matches tonight. Juan faces Julian and then the winner of that match will be put against the winner of Corey and Majin. We realize that the winner of the first match would have a potential advantage in rest and tried to make things as fair as possible. So a coin toss was held and Julian and Juan will be first tonight. Perhaps Julian kissing the coin helped. His attempt at giving us one of his own coins to use, which was rebuked by Drake, would have 'helped' even more, I suppose.
But it appears that kissing the cash wasn't the only luck he's trying to give himself, he's also coming down to the ring in brand new duds! Pretty flashy, even for him! But that isn't stopping Juan Leche from walking confidently to the ring himself. These two really lit up the last two shows with their matches. Juan had control of both, only to lose the second match after a brilliant combination from Julian. Perhaps Juan feels he still has this entire rivalry under control but from the looks of Julian, he has crowned himself king of UBL. Let's see who makes it to the main event tonight for a chance at earning the real crown, the NEXUS Title.

What a statement by Julian! He brought out the strongest weapon in his arsenal against Juan and it paid off! Julian calls that the "Royale Intervention" and when he attempts it, you know the play time is over. You have to give Juan a lot of credit here but Julian just wanted this more and would not be shut down. I don't think we've ever seen Julian more motivated in UBL as we have recently on his road to the Nexus Title.
Juan Leche (X) ["Royale Intervention." - 19:33] (O) Julian Caesaro
And now it's time to fill the other slot of our main event for tonight. Corey won the first match of this series with a sharpshooter and 'Majin' won the second with a Dragon Suplex. We know both of these men pride themselves on the vast array of high impact match enders they have mastered so who knows what we will see here tonight. Neither have new ring clothes but the look in both of their eyes tonight are scary enough to make someone 'need new pants' if you catch my drift. Let's get to the ring before I say something else that might get me fired or highly traumatize my dry cleaners.

And I think a message was just sent to Julian Caesaro!! You aren't the only who's going "all in" to get a NEXUS Title shot! Corey O'Brian just brought out HIS strongest move, the Core Meltdown! He and Omen fought tooth and nail but a move like that...man, that can take out anyone on this roster. I'm sure 'Majin' is disappointed in the loss but his stated purpose in coming to UBL was to fight the strongest and I can't imagine him feeling shortchanged in that mission tonight. This was a rivalry, for the ages. And 'Majin' took a lot out of Corey for the main event which I am sure Julian Caesaro is not too broken up about.
Corey O'Brian (O) ["Core Meltdown" - 20:45] (X) 'Majin' Black Omen
And next, one of the most anticipated matches tonight given the events of the last year. After Fuzen Tara Seitan injured Sword at the November 2009 Open and then boasted about their actions for months, they finally had to eat their words when he returned last month to come to the aid of Metapocalypse and Omega. Not only did he return to fight, but he has done so as Tiger Sword, a more serious and dangerous specimen then Silent Sword. FTS immediately evacuated the ring upon his arrival but I do not think it was out of fear but out of strategy. Guys like Athrin, Vulcan, Jean, and Marquis don't scare easily, they don't scare at all. But they wanted to regroup and control the way Sword's vengeance is delivered. Doing so in a match like this after Sword had a chance to cool down over the last month may have been wise, or it may backfire by allowing Sword to have recovered and focused even more. We will find out now as Sword gets his first chance for revenge after an entire year. And F.T.S. has a chance to finish the job they started.

Wow. That was...a WAR! Folks, we've seen some great tag matches on these shows but what we just saw there was Battalion quality! Sword just went above and beyond to get that victory but F.T.S. really showed us what they could do too. And Omega didn't back down either. I think Sword got a measure of revenge here but this is not over by any extent. The Bastille of Blood are coming out with vials but Athrin has actually waved them off. He wants Sword 1 on 1 after this match, this showing of Sword's heart. We heard Drake announce that Sword and Athrin are set to face each other at Ragnarok and after seeing what they threw at each other tonight, that show is gonna live up to its name! What a match we just experienced!
Owen Churchill/TigerSword (O) [Tiger Suplex '85 - 29:47] (X) Athrin Cross/Vulcan Vesuvius
And we're gonna take a small intermission to regroup. That will also give Julian and Corey more time to rest up for their match later tonight. I'd like to remind everyone that Park Young Tae's Chippy Stand is still in the concession concourse as well as many other refreshment choices for maximum nutrition. I'd also like to point everyone to the recent OG-Joshi Voltage where on top of some great wrestling action, we got the final challenge being made between Orochi Army and the Returners. Unfortunately, there was also an uninvited guest whose name I am not permitted to speak, as if I wanted to be reminded of him anymore then Drake.
Speaking of Drake, right now we're being joined by his half brother, a "Sir" Arthur Wingate. I uh...don't think he was scheduled to be on the show tonight but from what I've gathered backstage, Arthur isn't one for other people's formality even if he insists on it for how people deal with him. He's in the ring with a microphone now. And I can imagine Drake's blood pressure just shot up.
[Arthur:] "First impressions are optimal when one can reap the benefit of making a new acquaintance. As such, my first gift to all of you is a lesson in class. When you are unable to properly do something, allow someone more qualified to do it for you. As such, I will be the one greeting myself on behalf of all of you. It is a pleasure for you to meet the future Nexus Champion, the future ruler of UBL, Sir Arthur Wingate."
([John:] Yeah, the fans are loving this, all right. I wonder if Arthur can give the middle finger to himself too. If not, I bet the fans will have no problem teaching him the right way to do it.)
[Arthur:] "Now I would like to prepare you for some events in the future that might seem unsavory, even shocking. You will soon be seeing me thoroughly dismantle some young wrestlers and I remind you all, it is not personal. They simply don't know any better. Do not call them knaves or simpletons for being foolish enough to dare lay their hands on the United Kingdom Catch Wrestling Champion. Do not be offended that they try to tassel the hair of a man the Queen knighted herself. I will teach them the respect that was sorely absent in their upbringing, the glory that they were not creative enough to strive for, and the meaning of true victory that has been missing from this pathetic, passed along promotion from the start."
(Wow. That's A-r-t-h-u-r W-i-n-g-a-t-e, fans. Misspelled hate mail will probably anger him.)
[Arthur:] "But enough for now, all of you simply can not absorb my greatness in one fell swoop. It would be a disservice to me and you to even try. Once I "earn" my way onto the Main roster, you will truly begin to understand the lifetime gift and inspiration that has been given to you in the form of my presence. I look forward to you all beginning to enjoy it. Cheerio!"
[John:] "Now, if we can get back to the action after a palette cleanser that made us all a bit queasy, we have a big match coming up. Both Koji Keo'ke and Chuck "The Ripper" Madrox have been undefeated since joining UBL. And both have done it against top notch opponents. Koji earned his way onto the main roster by beating former NEXUS Champion, Karl Wunderlin: a man we haven't heard from since after that match. And Chuck also defeated Karl as well as a number of other opponents. He had a very grueling match against Park Hyun Soo last show and came out on top. Koji and Chuck are both relatively easy going men outside of the ring who get extremely intense in competition and when pushed. I think the two of them will bring out the best in each other but will likely not become best friends as a result.

And someone had to win this but you'd never guess that from the tremendous effort both men gave to stay alive here. Koji ended up victorious using the same move he used to beat Karl Wunderlin and earn a spot on this roster. You have to give credit to Chuck who kept fighting but this match, on this night, was won by Koji. However, I do not think this is over. Especially since I believe Drake has his eyes on both men as future NEXUS Contenders. I would not be surprised to see a rematch or perhaps Drake will want to shuffle some of the top contenders differently this time around.
Koji Keo'ke (O) ["Kilauea Buster" - 16:18] (X) Chuck Madrox
And speaking of top contenders, these next two men have to be among the very top of the bunch. Dambman and Daddy Prime Time have been warring for over a year and tonight marks the final match, as dictated by Drake himself. You'd have to believe that whoever does win this has a good shot at a top contender position once the NEXUS Title is defended next month. But I'm not even sure these two men are concerned about that given their blood feud. It's not every rivalry that ends up in a cage match, after all. But the things these two have said to each other, the things that have been done, well my guess is that wanting to wring each other's necks right now is a higher priority then what they wear around their own waists. These two have split wins, with Damb striking first in a match where both of them actually debuted in for UBL. Then DPT won the second a few months back via submission. We know how intense Damb can be and how crafty DPT can be. But the question now remains: how violent and resilient can they be when put into a situation like this, a match where careers can be made...or ended. Let's find out.

And that's it! Daddy Prime Time has won this match and ended the rivalry with a vicious kick to Damb's head. We know how powerful DPT's kicks are but that had some extra oomph to it. Dambman kept fighting and looked to have had the match won a number of times but DPT just would not say die. For all the taunting he does, all the fun he has at other people's expense, the man has real heart in the ring. Damb has as much heart but we knew that from his attitude the whole time. Why wasn't he able to win? Because I think DPT was just a little bit quicker at the end. Did he want it more? Perhaps, but he channeled that desire into his final kick. That was the difference maker. Both of these men have a lot to be proud of though. And the fact they are leaving the cage without any further violence is certainly a relief.
Dambman (X) [Thrusting High Kick - 18:56] (O) Daddy Prime Time
And now we come to the main event. The winner gets a shot at the greatest prize on this roster and, arguably, in the whole promotion, the NEXUS Champion. These two have never faced each other before but I don't think they are going to approach this match very tentatively. Both are tired, both are in the later stages of mental warfare due to their matches tonight. I think we are going to see a fight that reflects what they have been through before...and what they will do to make good on those very efforts. Julian is out in the same attire as before, his face is confident but you can tell that his match with Juan took a toll on him. Same goes for Corey. He appears as intense as ever but the bruises on his body and neck can not be ignored. Neither man will break the gaze of the other and there is competition from the start. That war we saw with Damb and DPT, the refusal to quit, will definitely be front and center right now.
Match #6: Julian Caesaro vs. Corey O'Brian
#1 Contendership to the Nexus Title
It appears that both men were paying close attention to each other's matches as Julian immediately starts attacking Corey's vulnerable neck while Corey looks to further the damage done by Leche on Julian's body. Elbows and punches to the stomach, respectively, dominate the early going. It's also clear that even though both of these men had time to rest, it wasn't time enough. They already look like they're at least five minutes past where they usually would be at the start of the match and realizing this, they eschew a lot of preliminary "feeling out" moves and begin to get into their bigger arsenals.
Julian takes the advantage with a thumb to the eye, targeting one of the two areas that will always be a bit more vulnerable then others. He attempts a roundhouse kick to the face but his back has frozen up too much and he can only reach Corey's midsection. Julian winces and shakes his head in frustration at the limits his worn body is imposing but shrugs it off and kicks Corey's leg out. Then he applies a camel clutch, a wise move that actually allows Julian to stretch his own back while hurting Corey's neck and upper back. Corey's struggles to get out of it and seems practically unable to, the suplexes by Black Omen really taking their toll. Instead, Corey is able to utilize his impressive wrestling knowledge to grab one of Julian's legs and begin to torque it. Never seen anyone grab a leg submission while in a camel clutch but you gotta hand it to Corey's ingenuity. This forces Julian to quickly give up the hold, not wanting to risk any more damaged body parts, especially not one that provided him with so much of his high impact offense.
Julian attempts a sleeper but Corey drops down immediately into a chin breaker. This sends Julian flying back into one of the corner posts where he shouts out in pain due to the impact of his back on the turnbuckles. Corey charges in with a shotei and it looks like he has control. He hits a snap suplex on Julian and goes into a boston crab, really wrenching that back. But Julian uses his leg strength to actually kick Corey off the move. The two have a stare down and you can sense a mutual impatience given their own fatigued conditions. Julian smiles and charges in with a high kick but Corey catches it and hits an leg-lift exploder! Julian's back was just driven into the mat and Corey goes for the pin but only gets a close 2. He puts Julian into position for a stump puller and Julian is really screaming now, his whole body being compressed. It looks like he may tap but he was actually getting some body momentum with his hands so that he could kick his leg up right into Corey's crouching head. The hold is broken and Julian hits a dropkick to Corey's neck! Corey goes down immediately holding his neck and Julian uses the occasion to hit a quick but low range corner rebound leg drop. Goes for the pin...but just gets a 2.
Julian smells the blood in the air and lifts Corey up...Royale with Cheese!! This time it's Corey sent careening into the corner post and then starts rebounding back...right into Julian's outstretched arms for the Royale intervention! But Corey saw it coming and actually manages to hit his own judo style STO before Julian can get the more involved Intervention properly locked in! Both men are down but Corey drapes an arm over Ceese's chest for a 2.9. Now it's Corey who is looking to finish the job and he places Julian between his legs. I think he's going for the Core Meltdown! He heaves Julian up but Julian starts kicking Corey's chin and neck! Corey leans backwards further to avoid the kicks but, in doing so, modifies the move into a regular powerbomb. Right before Corey drops down with it, Julian gets his right leg over Corey's neck and his left knee under Corey's chin! As soon as the powerbomb hits the mat, Corey's head flings backwards from the impromptu chinbreaker while Julian is knocked out from the drop! Both men are on the mat and unable to move. Julian was knocked out by the impact of the powerbomb on his already damaged back while Corey is still conscious but unable to move due to the frightening impact his chin and neck just took.
The referee begins the count.
1...
2...
3...
Corey starts rolling towards the ropes
4...
5...
Julian appears to be sleeping but seems to be moving almost instinctively towards the ropes as well.
6...
7...
Corey grabs the middle rope and tries to pull himself up. Julian grabs the bottom rope.
8...
Corey uses his other arm to grab the top rope while Julian yells out and falls down after trying to pull himself up, his back finally giving out for the night. It's all in Corey's hands now.
9...
Corey reaches for the top rope with his first arm but the strain on his neck and vertigo from Ceese's reversal is too great and he falls down to the mat.
10. The bell rings and the referee has ruled this a draw!!
Corey O'Brian (-) [Double KO - 14:10] (-) Julian Caesaro
Sergeant Drake Yoshida has run out to ringside and is demanding that this match continue until there is a winner!! But neither wrestler can move! Drake actually goes over and tries to drag Julian on top of Corey for the win but the referee, Saito, refuses to accept this. He walks out and Drake is furious that this is the turnout and Julian hasn't eliminated Corey. He gets a microphone.
[Drake:] "Fine! This is the way it's gonna be? Then Gene Starr gets two opponents for his Title!! That's right - UBL is about to show OG-Joshi how to properly do their favorite: a Triple Threat Championship match!! Corey O'Brian vs. Julian Caesaro vs. Gene Starr for the NEXUS Championship at the October Open!!"
Wow and what a huge announcement that is! Gene Starr now faces even more of a challenge!! But you gotta wonder the shape Julian and Corey will be in after tonight!
Well folks we'll see you next month for what is going to be a historic show!
