Re-Crowned

*The video feed turns on and the unmistakable roar of a live wrestling crowd is upon us. However, the arena seems foreign to most of the world watching this impromptu broadcast. And due to the vivid pyrotechnics and lights, it takes a few moments for the home viewing audience to clearly register the man walking to the ring. But he is soon recognized as the Marauder due to his immense size and stoic nature. He is accompanied by his new entrance music, "Triton", as well as what appears to be a tag team partner due to the ring gear they are both wearing. The man walking next to the Marauder is smaller in stature and a relative unknown. But the fans have already caught on to the grander implications of what they are witnessing here as the blue, gold, and black color scheme of the ring and mat starts to come into view. Although they can not believe it, they are watching...
The Universal Battle League.
The Battle-Tron then turns on with an introduction video.*
*The focus switches to the commentary table where a very excited John Randolph joins us.*
[John:] "First off, a very big hello to Jean Carter. You're probably the most excited person in the world to be watching this right now and I hope you enjoy every second of it. For everyone else, welcome to jolly ole England for the worldwide return of the Universal Battle League!
Tonight we present UBL: Re-Crowned, a show designed to demonstrate the progress that this brand has made over the last year under the leadership of our new owner, Sir Arthus Wingate. But as a nod to our past, we are live tonight on the annual December 13th anniversary of OG-FPD. We are exactly one year removed from Immortal, the final show under the OG-FPD banner. Folks, I could not possibly be any more excited to be the voice of UBL's return to the public stage!"
*The crowd roars in support of John's words and he nods.*
[John:] "Something big is a'brewing tonight and I'm not at liberty to say what it is...because I actually have no idea! But from backstage rumblings, I don't believe we're back in the public spotlight just because of the night's history or, even more importantly, the incredible pair of matches we have for you. Of course, those are damn good reasons by themselves. Because even though this is the first public broadcast of Arthur's UBL, it is far from our first event. Arthur has actually been putting on weekly shows ever since January when the purchase from Orochi Geese cleared. And a whole lot has happened since your eyes last left that iconic logo in that ring. The most important development is our Championship situation.
Let's set the stage. The Marauder is now standing in the ring with JET Hamada, who is one of the most promising UBL rookies of 2012. They are scheduled to take on the Matsuki-Gun team of RYOMA and Kazuo "Chrome" Saji. Kazuo is another promising rookie in the UBL and some of you FPCPP fans certainly recognize that man and know what he is capable of. In fact, that may explain some of the booing he is receiving from the live crowd right now as his team music starts up."
*"Big Bridge Battle" is playing on the house speakers as RYOMA and Kazuo Saji come out, respectively, to cheers and boos. Kazuo absorbs the jeers and smirks through his Chrome colored sunglasses. RYOMA ignores the crowd's favorable reaction and walks to the ring. These fans love their stoic nihonjin even more when he doesn't acknowledge them!*
[John:] "And the reason these two teams are about to face each other is to fight for the *sigh* currently vacant Universal Battalion Championship. That's right, they're after the poisonous fruit of the infamous "Battalion". The former Champions, Kyle Walker and Jason Hyde, vacated the Titles last year because Kyle retired at OG-FPD Immortal and Jason had already split with him at the "Geese funeral show" a few months prior to that. As a result, the previous version of UBL ended with no official Tag Team Champions, which is painfully ironic given how long it took to establish those titles to begin with.
Therefore, Arthur was quite happy to deliver a clean slate for these troubled Titles, and was smart enough to learn from the administrative mistakes of the previous ownership. He decided against holding another thirty team league after the previous one in 2008 somehow spanned dimensions of space and years of time. Rather, he only chose to do a relatively quick 6 month league with one match per month. And that league was made up of teams which had one rookie and veteran each.
That brings me to one of the most exciting features of this new UBL: a mentoring system where our top stars and respected veterans take Front Lines rookies under their tutelage based on shared personalities or styles. This initiative was actually the idea of Goro Yamashita after having success last year in our gym working with Tyler Alexander and, most recently, Tenshi. Arthur Wingate, Sergeant Drake Yoshida, and the Field Leader Champion Matt Rivers then discussed the idea further with Goro, which led to making it the foundational glue of all the teams in the Battalion Championship division.
Marauder and JET Hamada both have a strong grappling background based on Marauder's amateur wrestling and JET's judoka training. Saji and RYOMA are both members of Miss Matsuki's management company so they share a common bond, perhaps to RYOMA's chagrin. And while RYOMA is still only in his first few years of his wrestling career, he was allowed to be a mentor of Kazuo for purposes of this team given his previous success in UBL. Matt Rivers specifically lobbied for RYOMA to be given that honor due to the "match of the year" candidate that the two had for the Field Leader Title in 2011. And so, these two teams entered the league early this year and made it to the Finals tonight to wrestle each other in the Championship match."
*Meanwhile, in the ring, Kazuo and RYOMA are staring down JET and Marauder. JET looks a bit perturbed by Kazuo's posturing but Marauder is helping him refocus, while RYOMA is actually trying to stop Kazuo from being so irritating. Kazuo finally relents and then drops down to the ring floor where he appears to be giving his Chrome sunglasses to a fan, only to yank them back at the last second and replace them on his own head. Kazuo laughs as the crowd boos.*
[John:] "He may be the master of Chrome but he does NOT have a 'Hart' of gold. However, don't take him lightly because of his antics. Matt Rivers says that Kazuo is one of the most impressive raw talents he's ever seen. But he can't stand to be in a room with him for more then two minutes. Two minutes would be a little much. Kazuo has had uneven success in FPCPP which resulted in Miss Matsuki recalling him to the gym to make him work harder under RYOMA's training. This is the first time in months that Kazuo is back in the ring and he appears to have a chip on his shoulders after the perceived slight by Matsuki.
Matt is equally impressed with JET Hamada's abilities but has greater admiration of his personality then that of Kazuo. In fact, after enthusiastically working with JET in Front Lines training sessions, Matt then introduced him to the Marauder as a prospective student and tag team partner. JET is one of the newest additions to the roster and has a judo-based style unlike any I've ever seen before. I'm still unsure how it will lend itself to tag matches in the long haul but he's made it to this point. And he's in there with 5 time Battalion Champion and consummate tag wrestler, the Marauder. That's part of the value of this mentorship initiative. Matt knows how great an instructor and role model the Marauder is due to witnessing the incredible progress that Luke Kisiera made under his tutelage. JET is going to be a big player in the future if he learns from Marauder's experience and poise. One such lesson is how to best focus to ignore the shenanigans of Matsuki's rookie ace, Kazuo Saji.
But tonight isn't just about individual personalities, it's about teamwork. And we know that RYOMA and Kazuo have been working together longer then Marauder and JET. However, we also know that RYOMA is not the type that likes over the top personalities and so there's a question of how well they will mesh compared to the diligent stoicism that Marauder and JET share. Then you need to add to the equation the fact that Marauder is a former five time, five time...nah, I'll stop there....Battalion Champion and has a reputation in the locker room as being the best tag worker in the company.
Regardless of how this turns out, Arthur Wingate is confident enough in the potential quality of this match to have it open our first worldwide broadcast. So you gotta figure this gonna be good."
*John winks at the audience and we then go to the ring for the match.*

[John:] "Wow, what a worldwide debut JET Hamada had! And what an unfortunate ride on the unfriendly skies that Kazuo took! He joined the wrong "mile high club" when he got in the ring with JET Hamada who just won his team the Battalion Titles!"
Marauder/JET (O) ["Unfriendly Skies" - 23:45] (X) Kazuo/RYOMA
[John:] "That means Marauder is now a six time Battalion Champion! And you have to be just as impressed with the fact that his student JET, a man who has been professionally wrestling for less then a year, picked up this victory as decisively as he did. RYOMA and Kazuo came close to victory on a number of occasions but they could not beat this team of determined grapplers. The crowd is loving their new Champions! Matt Rivers has even come out to congratulate both men, as well as the sumo wrestler Yoshiro who is another Marauder understudy. 'Maraunderstudy'...uh. that one's for you, Jean!"
*Kazuo is very slowly regaining consciousness so RYOMA lifts him up on his shoulder to carry back to the locker room. Marauder nods to RYOMA out of respect and RYOMA returns the nod. But it's clear by his prolonged gaze that RYOMA is not satisfied.*
[John:] "Something tells me that this is not the last time we'll be seeing these two teams go at it. And judging by the excitement of the crowd after this encounter, that's a good thing. But now let us turn to our second match of the night where our top singles title, the esteemed NEXUS Championship, is up for grabs.
Corey O'Brian was the former NEXUS Champion but he and Arthur Wingate could not agree on contractual terms in January. So the Title was sadly vacated two weeks after Corey won it for the very first time at OG-FPD Immortal. During a company wide meeting, Matt Rivers suggested a Tournament to crown the new NEXUS Champion. He clearly has an eye for history because a tournament was the method in which the first NEXUS Champion, Gene Starr, was determined. At the time of suggestion, Matt did not volunteer himself for that tournament since he wanted to continue defending his own Field Leader Title.
But Charles Langford thought Matt's initiative meant that he was going to compete for the title. So he and his Golden Pair teammate, Jasper Woodruff, jumped Matt backstage one night. After the attack, Matt decided that he didn't want someone like Charles winning the NEXUS Title and then entered the tournament. Matt has been training harder then ever since the attack and vows to have some major surprises for Charles. Meanwhile, Charles says that Matt's poker face isn't good enough to surprise a champion gambler and that he's been one step ahead of him the whole time. I'd agree...except for the clear fact that Charles's actions led to the very outcome that he was desperately trying to avoid when he attacked Matt to begin with. I guess even poker players can't calculate quantum odds since his worries about Matt ended up becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy!
While you do have to applaud Charles for getting to the Finals of the new NEXUS Tournament, I don't think he understands what he's up against. Matt Rivers is still the current reigning Field Leader Champion. Matt Rivers has faced down Kyle Walker at his worst. In fact, many people believe that it was Matt Rivers who was the true savior of UBL in 2011 and more closely personified the opposing spirit of Kyle then Geese did. Kyle brought destruction to UBL while Matt brought new life and hope in the Front Lines division. Kyle tried to destroy the UBL using the Battalion Title as leverage while Matt brought life to UBL with the competitiveness of his Field Leader Title reign. Matt has seen violence far worse then Charles Langford has brought.
But Charles should not be underestimated. He is a former Dragon Pro Dragon Heart Champion. He has also faced many more top tier opponents, like Julian Caesaro, then Matt has in their respective careers. The experience edge goes to Charles, in my book. But Matt Rivers has been undefeated for the last year and a half. And tonight he aims to send a serious message that back stage attacks and other shenanigans won't be rewarded in this new UBL incarnation. He also sports an arsenal that is tough to crack or find flaws in. Charles is a multi-faceted wrestler with a roughneck style in addition to number of tricky submissions and roll-up techniques. Matt Rivers is turning into one of the great technical wrestlers of our era. But can he take the kind of brawling and power that Charles will deal out? Let's get to the ring and find out! Charles is about to make his entrance."
*Matt Rivers was already in the ring, having celebrated with Marauder and JET Hamada. Charles Langford comes down next to massive boos but just grins and fans himself. He shoots a few poker cards like ninja stars at the more vociferous crowd critics. This causes Matt to roll out of the ring, grab Charles by the scruff of the neck, and roll him into the ring to start the match.*

[John:] "And Matt Rivers has just become the UBL NEXUS Champion!! I'm sure Jean and Luke are elated right now for their very good friend. The crowd is certainly going nuts after this match and the way it ended. Matt unleashed a spectacular new variation of his "Chancery of Rain" Finisher. I guess that was the surprise Matt had for Charles, along with tweaks of some of his other moves as well. Matt Rivers has evolved to meet the needs of the NEXUS Division and we could not have a more proud Champion and representative of what this promotion means."
Matt Rivers (O) ["Chancery of Win" KO - 17:56] (X) Charles Langford
[John:] "Luckily, it looks like Charles just landed badly on his arm. The trauma plus the fatigue of the match is what led to the temporary lapse of consciousness. I don't think he's badly injured or even has a concussion as he's regaining his wits with the help of the ring crew. You gotta hand it to Matt here too as he actually is helping them revive Charles. He may have felt guilty regarding the potential injury due to his stronger move. I think Matt wanted to teach Charles a lesson but he's one of the last people who ever wants to actually injure someone. It's possible that he didn't know the full power of that move until he unleashed it in the heat of battle. Jasper has come to the ring and is helping Charles backstage. It appears Charles is actually able to walk so we certainly avoided a nasty scene here. And hopefully Charles will think again before attacking anyone.
Matt appears to be back in good spirits as it finally sinks in that he has won the NEXUS Championship. He just hit the big time in my estimation. And really, that was an incredible match we just witnessed. I thought Charles was going to take it after he applied the "Royal Flush" arm breaker but Matt persevered long enough to find a way out of the hold.
Matt is now the first UBL wrestler to hold both the Field Leader Title and the NEXUS Title in his career, and to do so simultaneously. That isn't even a feat that was considered possible a year ago. But Arthur allowed Matt to hold and defend the NEXUS Title until the end of this tournament as a thank you to Matt for putting the Front Lines on the map. But now that he is the NEXUS Champion, he will have to relinquish the Field Leader Title. You've got to imagine how many hungry young wrestlers want to win that Title and follow in the footsteps of Mr. Rivers."
"Baron" by Marine plays on the speakers as Sir Arthur Wingate walks down the ramp. He shakes hands with Matt Rivers and raises his hand in victory to massive applause. Arthur gestures for him to stay in the ring while he gets a microphone.*
[Arthur:] "Tonight I have the sincere pleasure of not only addressing our dedicated local crowd, but the entire world of professional wrestling. I, Sir Arthur Wingate, the white knight of UBL who freed it from the eight headed dragon of chaos, have a surprise announcement which will make this an even more historic occasion then it has been already. But first, join me in further congratulating the still reigning Field Leader and new NEXUS Champion, Matthew Rivers."
*The crowd goes ballistic hearing the owner announce Matt as Champion. Matt appears proud of what he has accomplished and holds both Title belts up high as Arthur celebrates.*
[Arthur:] "Matthew Rivers is the man who helped drive Jinchuu's spirit to it's knees. He is the man who put our Front Lines division on the international map as the place for up and coming wrestlers to ply their trade and earn respect. And he is the man who defeated every Field Leader contender that I put in front of him this entire calendar year, while still having the initiative and ability to win an additional singles Championship. Do you understand the challenge of such a task? Defending one Title on a weekly basis against all comers of all styles and abilities while challenging and winning another one through a League of this promotion's best? Such an unprecedented accomplishment impresses one of even my standing. And so it gives me great honor to have him, the new face of UBL and first undisputed UBL Champion ever, in the ring when I make the announcement that-"

[John:] "That can not be good. We have just been joined by Ruby Moreno and her DESTINY group."
We see Joachim, the giant Matthias, and Jang Bae. Ruby stands in front of them, to a flash of apparent discontent by Joachim, and grabs a microphone off the commentary table. She then glances at John with an annoyed look of expectation.*
[John:] "Uh, I'm gonna hang back and let them do the talking. From what I've been hearing, you really don't want these guys angry at you. We're not talking small time James Ward style thuggery they are capable of. Just look at Jang Bae for proof..."
*John takes his headset off which elicits a smile from Ruby, one matched by Arthur Wingate. Ruby gives a knowing look to him and then addresses him with a polite nod and smile.*
[Ruby:] "Mr. Wingate, what a pleasure as always. I must say, you do not appear to be surprised at this fortuitous turn of events. Should I chalk that up to a keen sense of the inevitable?"
[Arthur:] "You are quite correct. It was only a matter of time until you'd start pining for 'the promotion that got away.' But as to what results from this occasion may be an issue of dispute between us. So let's not further delay in getting to your pitch. I still have an important announcement to make and you, along with your brain-washed cronies, are not part of it."
[Ruby:] "Such defiance and limited vision! Only a short-sighted fool like yourself would take a formerly profitable international promotion and turn it into this 'cozy' hole in the wall tucked away in an old world country with no future aspirations."
[Arthur:] "This *Arthur gestures broadly around the arena and then at Matt Rivers* is pro wrestling at it's finest. To be lectured on vision by a woman who controls a promotion consisting of fruits and vegetables is the ultimate irony. Furthermore, your grand vision of unifying OG-Joshi and LAWL have not gone as smoothly as expected."
*Ruby laughs off Arthur's comment.*
[Ruby:] "Don't pretend to understand my methods."
[Arthur:] "You'll soon see that I am capable of more then just pretending. But let's move beyond your attempt to buy time for the Destiny flunkies on the way and tell everyone exactly why you are here. I know that your countrymen no longer respect personal property but you are trespassing here and we Brits take that seriously."
[Ruby:] "Then let us speak of property as I offer you an ultimatum: Sell the UBL to me right now or watch it die in front of you."
*Arthur laughs and turns to Matt.*
[Arthur:] "Is there truly no limit to how often this promotion can be threatened by deranged groups?"
*Ruby displays a rare hint of anger at that remark.*
[Ruby:] "How dare you liken us to Jinchuu!"
[Arthur:] "Your protests against comparison only ring true as to one point. Namely, that I won't waste as much time entertaining your childish fantasies of world domination as Geese did placating their hurt feelings."
*The crowd chants the British equivalent of "oh no he din't", "oh yes he di'd."*
[Arthur:] "And so tonight will feature a swift extermination of pests."
*Ruby smirks.*
[Ruby:] "On that final point, i could not agree more."
*Ruby turns her head to the backstage curtain*
[Ruby:] " Jarec, if you would be so kind...."
*The four members of DESTINY are then joined by a number of very muscular and large masked men who walk down the aisle and surround the ring. Ruby walks up to the ring apron. She takes out a contract and holds it up to Arthur Wingate.*
[Ruby:] "Now that even a fool would have enough sense to appreciate the futility of any resistance, I will grant you one final chance to do the wise thing. Sign the Universal Battle League over to Destiny and you two, along with the entire roster, will be spared. More importantly, your place in history will finally be secured as a visionary. Do you not want eternal glory? Isn't your country, one based so heavily on aristocracy, based on having an 'immortal' legacy?"
[Arthur:] "I already made one on my own terms. This entire country celebrates my legacy while yours is connected worldwide to headless potatoes wrestling irradiated bananas. But if you want to talk history, you should understand it's full implications. A wise man once said that those who ignore the mistakes of history are doomed to repeat them. And it appears that you have already forgotten the lessons Orochi Geese hoped the world would learn from when he reflected on his career last year."
[Ruby:] "Oh please. You can not possibly expect me to remember every single mistake that shell of a man has made. The Walkers, alone, illustrate a cautionary tale for the ages. So to think there are any meaningful lessons, not obvious to a simpleton, contained in his monumental failures is delusional at best."
[Arthur:] "Then allow me to guide your bereft education. If you collect too many enemies, they will come back to haunt you at the most inopportune of times. Ghosts of the past can not be exorcised by ignoring them, Miss Moreno. And although you are all uninvited guests, you are not unexpected ones. Nor are you the only ones. I took the liberty of reaching out to some people that might take issue with your past actions: Specifically, those that occurred during Battle Formation."
[Ruby:] "What could you possibly be babbling about-"

[John:] "It's Tiger Sword!! The owner of SCW and current FPCPP World Champion! We last saw him in UBL last summer during the Exploding cage match against Athrin that ended in a painful draw!"
*Tiger Sword runs out to the ring flanked by a number of his Silencer Championship Wrestling allies. They power through Destiny's wall of masked muscle and run to the ring to join Matt and Arthur in fending off their enemies. More UBL wrestlers come out from the back and join forces with the SCW ones to run off DESTINY's army.
Sword manages to get in a few shots at the immense Matthias, Matt Rivers holds off Joachim, and Arthur trips Ruby, causing her to comically fall on her face. The fans are LOVING this with a capital <3 and all the wrestlers in the ring are primed to protect UBL against these potential invaders and questionable dressers. DESTINY completely clears out of the arena!*
[Arthur:] "Although he needs no introduction, let me formally welcome Tiger Sword."
*Arthur shakes Sword's hand to cheers.*
[Arthur:] "The talented athlete you see in front of you is the rightful current FPCPP World Champion, the owner of Silencer Championship Wrestling, and a former competitor of great distinction in Geese's UBL. In fact, it is that last coincidental association that brought him the misfortune of crossing paths with Miss Moreno."
*The fans seem a little confused at this statement.*
[Arthur:] "Let us reflect on the main event of the Battle Formation show held in 2011. Tiger Sword was seeking retribution against his arch-rival, Athrin Kazama, in an exploding barbed wire cage match. Now that was a match that I, of course, found to be quite unbecoming of a gentlemanly pro wrestling atmosphere like you all enjoy here."
*He looks judgmentally at Sword who shrugs his shoulders and chuckles to himself*
[Arthur:] "But there exists a point beyond where two men agree to such violence. And that very point came during the second explosion of the match, an unplanned and unstipulated explosion, an explosion that neither man signed on for. And as bad as that was, the third explosion that followed could be considered a criminal act. We never found out who caused that explosion..."
*Arthur smiles*
[Arthur:] "Until recently. I would like to thank Athrin for this illuminating evidence that he obtained."
*The Battle-Tron turns on and we see footage of Joachim talking on his cell phone. There is a "Kirin Dojo" poster on the wall and a "Kirin Dojo" watermark on the video dated July 2012. Joachim does not realize he is on camera.*
[Joachim:] Are you certain this is the next step on our path, Ruby? Have we not already finished with them? What real value could a takeover bring to us? We are not even ready for international expansion of any considerable extent.
*Joachim looks annoyed at the response given to him.*
[Joachim:] Do not question my right to question you. Just because you speak to everyone else as subservient does not mean you can ignore your place relative to me. It sounds like you are on an ego trip, once again. Do you not remember what happened in OG-Joshi when you allowed your pride to lead you to irresponsible and premature choices? And do you not realize how your actions in UBL last year dangerously crossed the line of what our movement is about? Your disciple's explosions went too far and that was when we actually did have matters of justice to determine there. But we no longer do. Further involvement of such kind threatens our identity and integrity, two things that I am clearly more concerned about then you are.
*The woman on the other end barks back and he rolls his eyes.*
[Joachim:]Yes, we will take it up with him but not until I am back in the United States. Yes, I have business in Japan. I wrestle here. I am a Champion here. We can't rely solely on your promotion of misunderstood vegetables to give glory to Destiny. In fact, I dare say, it is doing just the opposite. No, I did not mis-speak nor did you mis-hear. *Pause* Good day to you too."
*The feed cuts off*
[Arthur:] "Dissension in Destiny? I truly do not care. But they gave Athrin too little credit in not assuming his surveillance is top notch. After that clip was recorded, he contacted Drake Yoshida with it to warn us of Destiny's plans for this promotion. Further information was then discovered that allowed us to pinpoint the date of their attack.
Although Athrin could not be here tonight, he expressed his desire that they learn a lesson. And if the level of pain isn't to his liking, he will pick up where we left off. As I am not one for barbarism, Destiny now has a demon after their souls. No amount of self blood-letting will satiate him as he prefers to do that to them himself."
*The crowd chants: "Athrin's gonna bleed you" in the direction of where Destiny ran off to.*
[Arthur:] "With that unpleasantness behind us, let me get to the intended announcement of tonight. As you can no doubt tell, the cream of the crop of Silencer Championship Wrestling stands in the same ring next to the pride of UBL. The result?"
*A dozen or so banners drop from the ceiling with a logo.*
[Arthur:] "Silent Knight is the result of our shared vision. Silencer Championship Wrestling and the Universal Battle League will co-produce this show which is scheduled for the Spring of 2013. We will be announcing the match line-up in the coming months."
[Arthur:] "Now, my final warning to Destiny: I have allies beyond what tonight's turnout suggested: Allies who have not stopped watching you from the moment that OG-FPD Immortal ended. Allies who anticipate the plans that you make because they realize that your true targets are close friends of theirs. While I am an actual Knight, you see me merely as a pawn to go after a self-proclaimed Ace and Emperor. We realize my position on this chess board of yours. So do not cross us again. You vastly exaggerate your own power but there are those who could dismantle your key members at the drop of a hat. And if anyone else attempts to interrupt our show, the unrestrained, combined might of UBL and SCW will be swiftly delivered onto you. I do not envy those who fail to heed my words."
[Arthur:] I look forward to working with Sword to put on the show of the century. Tto the entire world stage, the UBL accepts your gratitude for entertaining you once again. It has been your pleasure to relive the euphoria we have given you another small taste of tonight. Geese was correct at Immortal that UBL will live forever. But as you can see under my leadership, we'll live even better then ever before. Further proof will be demonstrated at Silent Knight. A fine evening to you all."
*Arthur then salutes the crowd before shaking hands with Sword again. The video feed shuts off.*
