March 2014
Field Leader: Darius
Welcome to the first Basic Training show of 2014. Before we get to the action, there is something that needs to be said. I have expressed my opinions as to recent events regarding the NEXUS Title and have gotten a volatile reaction from my fellow wrestlers and the fans as a result. But the Field Leader's job does not involve self-censorship about other Championship divisions. I am not an instigator, I am a motivator. And above all, I have learned the value of free speech in the face of those who are uncomfortable with people knowing the truth. I will not be silenced. If you want to take away my platform as Field Leader, step in the ring and defeat me.
With that unpleasantness aside, our opening match involves El Verde Fantasma taking on Golden Tiger. El Verde has been on the Basic Training program from it's very start but he seems to be in a holding pattern. Although he has defeated Golden Tiger in their first one on one match, he has not made any significant improvements to his overall record since then. He was also the first man eliminated in the triple threat match at Battle Formation: an encounter which Golden Tiger fared much better in before narrowly losing to Kirin Rider. Golden Tiger has shown a lot of promise in his matches over the last year and hopes to even this series with Verde Fantasma, forcing a tiebreaker.
While both of these wrestlers are extremely agile, Verde has been lacking the 'bite' of aggression that Tiger has. Verde is one match up but he needs to put Tiger away tonight given the superior experience that he has. If this turns into a three match series, even if Verde wins it, I can not consider it to be the type of decisive victory that would be rewarded with substantial progress on this program.
Although victory is necessary, it not always sufficient to increase one's position on this roster.
On the other hand, for Golden Tiger to win this match and entire series would speak very well of his potential and achievements here.
Match 1: El Verde Fantasma vs. Golden Tiger
As I said before, victory alone is not always enough to advance in the Basic Training program. Yoshiro has already defeated Kurt Sanders twice and yet I have still granted Kurt this rematch. The reason is because Kurt has walked out of both losses showing more confidence and poise then Yoshiro has after his victories. Yoshiro has allowed Kurt to get into his head and this match is an attempt to allow Yoshiro to put this behind him with a confident and emotionally stable victory. This is also an attempt to allow Kurt Sanders to show what he is truly capable of if he focuses as much on gaining victory as he does in his efforts to taunt his opponent.
Both men have gained significant victories in their most recent matches. Yoshiro defeated Naja Mask at the November Basic Training. Naja was an opponent chosen specifically by Yoshiro's mentor to test his emotional readiness. Kurt Sanders defeated the very competitive Ken Kenichi at the Silent Knight event as well. Each of these wrestlers are really on the cusp of earning a Field Leader Title match provided they show that their maturity has improved in this match.
That is not intended as a slight against Yoshiro, nor is it an attempt to show moral equivalence between his legitimate efforts and the antics of Kurt Sanders. But the fact remains that until Yoshiro can learn to brush off head games, he will not be ready for the main roster. And until Kurt can show that he is more interested in victory then his brand of mockery, I will not let him graduate no matter how talented he is. This is why this program exists: because even those wrestlers with impressive tools needs to be ready in every aspect of their game to compete in the NEXUS division. This match will go a long way in showing what each man is capable of.
Match 2: Yoshiro vs. Kurt Sanders
I don't really know what to make of that ending in light of the specific concerns leading to this match. We will report to you as soon as we can as to the condition of both men following that finish. I am greatly concerned but we have to move on with the show. As this is my write-up of the show, I will note that a half hour was spent securing the area and guaranteeing the safety and health of both men. In that time, the fans were encouraged to go to the merchandise and refreshment areas.
Now we turn back to the ring. The Swashbucklers have once again journeyed to the UBL from California (I won't dignify their requested location of "Arrr, the high seas, matey" with validity) and will be facing the Eruptshunned. Geyser and Magma have a lot of potential to be a dominant team in this diivsion for a long time but are still rookies. The Swashbucklers are capable of much more success than they have enjoyed here if they were to just put aside their comedic diversions. This is a team that actually are former IGL Tag Team Champions. If motivated, they can really provide a difficult challenge for their opponents. We saw them test the new team of "Iron Fist" last month at the Circuit show and now they are going to provide a veteran opponent to the Eruptshunned. I have banned Lucy Cutlass from ringside given her shenanigans at the Circuit Show. If you want to participate in my show, you will behave appropriately.
Match 3: SwashbuckLAWLers vs. Eruptshunned
Our main event tonight involves me defending my Field Leader Title against the #1 contender, Algernon LeBlanc. He defeated Jean DuBreil in November to earn this shot. Algernon is an extremely talented singles and tag team competitor. If he defeats me tonight, he will have the option of becoming the new Field Leader or graduating to the main roster. If I win tonight but he still impresses me with his efforts, I hold the power to advance him to the main roster.
Although I won the KPC World Junior Title by defeating ZUKAMIKUDO at Battle Formation, a match I am extremely proud of, this match is not sanctioned by Kirin Dojo since Algernon is not on their roster. As a result, I will only be putting my UBL Field Leader Title on the line. If Algernon were to defeat me here and join Kirin Dojo, I would certainly offer him a match for my KPC Title there.
But tonight's match is about the Field Leader Title and I am ready to face the tallest opponent that I have ever encountered. Yoshiro was the largest opponent overall that I have wrestled, However, Algernon's significant height advantage offers challenges for me that I have not yet encountered. That advantage coupled with his own brand of technical wrestling and arsenal of suplexes poses a difficult leverage-based obstacle for me that I have not yet fully solved. I dislike having to come into a match without a full game plan but there has been no one on this roster that has been able to train with me who simulates Algernon's style. I will have to go into this with confidence in my own ability to improvise. The good news for all of you fans is this. Despite my own desire to win as a competitor, I say this to you as the Field Leader: Whoever wins this match will be worthy to lead you in the future. I hope I will be capable of doing just that. Either way, you are in for an excellent match.

Match 4: Algernon LeBlanc vs. Darius (c)
*After the match, Ruby Moreno comes out with a smirk and a masked man. They stare down the two competitors in the ring as the show ends.*
