"Universal Base 10 Count" Tour
Show 2 - March 16, 2017
*The broadcast feed for the second show of the "Universal Base 10 Count" Tour begins with a video in sepia tone. There is a watermark on the video that says "OG-FPD Onslaught - 3/16/04". Specific faces of the wrestlers are intentionally blurred but we can see Orochi Geese and Holly sitting at ringside along with Mr. Figaro and Mr. Clyde.
The video then uses a fancy wipe transition to another scene with a watermark that says "OG-FPD Joshi Murderers Row - 3/18/05." A highlight video of the first ever OG-Joshi match is shown as Holly, Jo Ryder, and Dizzy are featured. The scene fades with the watermark: "13 years of Champions" as Dizzy is shown to be the first to ever win the OG-Joshi Championship.
*The footage then scrambles to black and the broadcast feed switches to that of a live arena in Rapid City, South Dakota. The fans are all standing in applause to honor Dizzy's career and many are also chanting for Rapid City native, Jo Ryder.
The camera focuses on UBL NEXUS Champion, Matt Rivers who is at the commentary booth.*
[Matt:] "Welcome to our second stop on the Base 10 Count Tour. We are here in Rapid City, South Dakota, a stronghold of Team Ryder and McLanahan Pro affiliated wrestlers. There is a lot of history on this date and I have been instructed to take you through it so that we can fully appreciate the 13th anniversary of OG-FPD and 10th Anniversary of UBL that the Universal Base 10 Count Tour is dedicated to.
Although December 13th, 2016 was the 13th Anniversary of OG-FPD, we are here tonight on the 13th Anniversary of the first OG-FPD PPV event: Onslaught. That was during the era when they used wrestlers whose likenesses we don't have the rights to show, hence the blurring. However, those who know Orochi Geese can point to Onslaught, held on March 16, 2004, as the first major step toward investing the significant time and money into his ownership role which would lead to the purchase and management of the UBL just 3 years later.
One year and two days after Onslaught, OG-FPD held it's second PPV called 'Murderer's Row' which featured the first OG-Joshi match. It was actually the coronation match for the OG-Joshi Championship and Diane "Dizzy" Cavuto won it by defeating Jo Ryder and then Holly. The formation of OG-Joshi cemented Orochi Geese's management role and reputation in the world of professional wrestling. It also contributed directly to rivalries among his allies and their opponents which led to the formation of UBL. There would be no UBL without OG-Joshi. I know that Jean Carter, former Coach and forever spirit of OG-Joshi, is celebrating it's 12th Anniversary today with Luke Kisiera as they watch this."
*Matt smiles and nods to the camera as a gesture to them both*
[Matt:] "But now it's time to continue writing the future of UBL. We have the last two matches of Round 1 of the Universal Battalion Championship Tournament tonight along with a Field Leader Title defense by Darius against JET Hamada. We start with our third tournament match pitting the team of Kazuo Saji and Dissmaster Droid against Geyser and Magma of the Eruptshunned team. I am supposed to refer to Kazuo and Droid's team as 'Chr0m3' but that's not a word: just a trendy and poorly concocted combination of letters and numbers. I'll call them 'Chrome' which will inevitably confuse people since that is Kazuo's nickname but that's what you get for creating a foolish team name, Kazuo.
All kidding aside, if that was indeed kidding, we saw Kazuo almost defeat Darius last month at the first stop of this tour. He is more serious and diligent in the ring and with his training. I still don't know where Droid fits into all of this. RYOMA and I talk regularly. Although he is back on good terms with Saji after a rivalry developed between Saji and Tetsu last year, Matsuki Holdings has essentially split into two groups. RYOMA, Tetsu, and Nobu Nakazawa train their way and Saji, Droid, and some of Saji's friends from other promotions train another way. Each group looks out for the welfare of the other but RYOMA is unable to comment on Droid cause he hasn't seen him in action recently. From what RYOMA has heard from Sako Dasumi, the OG-Joshi teammate of Hae-Won who is close to Saji and Droid, Drake Yoshida has nothing to be concerned about anymore in regards to Droid's...rabid 'interactivity' with personal computers.
I am going to stop talking about that now and turn to the Eruptshunned. Much like Watanabe Kai, we got a small taste of what the Eruptshunned could do before Destiny got INTERPOL to shut us down. Geyser and Magma were both selected by the UBL during an interpromotional draft, another of which will be held next month in honor of Julian Caesaro. Incidentally, I have been told that more information on that draft will be advertised later in the show. Geyser and Magma strike me as the type of team that could benefit from management. I think they have all of the talent to make it far in this tournament and promotion. Geyser has more speed and agility, striking ability, and technical prowess while Magma possesses the edge in strength and intensity. Both men are stronger than their opponents here but one thing concerns me about their origins in regards to this match. They each come from small villages so I do not know how they will react to a wrestling robot like Droid, or whatever you want to politely refer to Kazuo Saji as being.
This should be a high impact match and I think the key ingredient will be Saji. What did he learn from his match with Darius and how will he be able to incorporate it into this match while leading Droid at the same time? The Eruptshunned are on the same page due to having years of teamwork so it will be up to Saji as the emerging superstar to perform and communicate effectively with Droid.
Let's get to the ring."

[Matt:] "The inability or disinterest in promptly finishing matches has been the main criticism of Kazuo over the past few years. I think that Kazuo learned from his mistakes last month and focused on finishing this match. Saji is so dangerous when he realizes how effective he can be from different angles. Droid did his part here and you have to give credit to Geyser and Magma for pushing Chrome, but I think Saji has really awakened over the past few months and wants success for himself and his allies more than ever."
Droid/Saji (O) [Diving High Kick - 21:53] (X) Geyser/Magma
*Advertisements air for a much anticipated and recently announced new video game!!
[Matt:] "I don't really know what that is, but something makes me want to ask existential questions of identity. I'll talk to Luke about it. Ever since he retired, he has been making computer games and he has a good head...and heart... for the industry."
We turn next to the second Field Leader Title defense by Darius on this tour. He is dedicated to testing all of the men on the Basic Training roster who are basically at 'veteran' status. JET Hamada is one of them. Although it is true that JET has been in Basic Training since 2011, he spent much of his time in a team with the Marauder. The two held the Universal Battalion Championships until being defeated by Sun & Moon, but JET and Marauder kept vying for Title shots until recently. Marauder isn't just JET's tag team partner, he's also his mentor. He believes that JET has all the skills to succeed as a singles wrestlers. The two have talked extensively with myself, Drake, and Arthur, and we all finally succeeded in pushing JET to focus more on building a singles career.
Darius also feels it is time for JET to graduate but wants to test him first. We all have strong confidence in JET and Darius thinks this is mostly a formality. But here's the thing about professional wrestling: the enjoyment is in the details. Win or lose, JET will likely get promoted based on what is sure to be a strong performance on his behalf. This match is about the clash of two very competitive and capable men. After all, aren't we fighting Destiny for the purpose of protecting matches like these? We may know that JET will likely be promoted, but we don't know who will actually win or how. We don't know who will best the other. To JET and Darius, there is competitive pride on the line here and that resulting fighting spirit is what brings out the best in the UBL.
Adding to that is the fact that these two are evenly matched. Both deserve to be thought of among the best grapplers in the world. JET comes with the most experience in judo we have ever seen in the UBL and Darius brings that same resume in the form of amateur wrestling. Both are incredibly skilled at submissions, each choosing to target the arm and neck, and they both have similar signature strikes they rely on to set them up. JET uses a lariat-like shotei whereas Darius uses an uppercut-like shotei. These two have sparred in the Basic Training Dojo for years now, respect each other, respect competition, and want to do their best to push the other and win. We are about to watch the competitive spirit of UBL and the reason that we fight Destiny and other outside threats as hard as we do. Every wrestler in the back who is serious about this promotion and sport is watching this match right now. I am thankful to have a front row seat."

[Matt:] "I think JET was about to attempt his 'Fly the Friendly Skies' finisher right as time ran out! This was an incredible match. The two brought everything to the table against each other and I am impressed that they were able to resist each other. The fans are chanting '5 more minutes' and I am inclined to agree with them but Field Leader time limit is set at 20. A draw isn't the end but is rather a promise for a future match with even more on the line the next time they face each other."
JET Hamada (-) [Time Limit Draw - 20:00] (-) Darius
*JET and Darius take their time to catch their breath as the crowd cheers for both men. They shake each others hands, then raise them in victory. Darius nods to JET and then Matt. The crowd roars in approval*
[Matt:] "Advancement was academic and now it's certain. Please welcome your newest member of the NEXUS Roster, JET Hamada."
*Advertisements air for a large interpromotional wrestler draft in honor of Julian Caesaro!
[Matt:] "And now it's time for our final match of the evening: one that many are calling the biggest match of the tournament. The bracket draw was decided by order of entry but Ruby Moreno has been complaining that UBL put its strongest team against Destiny in the first round. I say such a label hasn't been established yet because that's what this tournament is here to figure out.
It is certain though that, out of all the teams in this tournament, the Agents of the Iron Fist have had the most success as a team here in the UBL. Does Destiny have a tough draw here? Certainly, but so do the Agents. I think Ruby would have been even angrier if her team had been against the Exiled, given their agenda to eliminate Destiny. Wohat if Destiny faced Watanabe Kai who steamrolled over the dangerous pirates? Or what about Kazuo and Droid? Kazuo has a reputation as a 'Destiny-killer' after knocking out Matthias.
My point is that Ruby Moreno could complain if Destiny had been placed in the first round against any of the teams, and that means that UBL did an admirable job of assembling them. Jeff and Jack Monroe have to wrestle the team they get and Ruby has to stop complaining. As to why they are particularly upset about Agents, well their experience speaks for themselves. They became the #1 contenders to the Universal Battalion Championship when they decisively beat "We have Beards" - the Cinderella team that went on a huge run of momentum and almost defeated Sun & Moon a few years ago. However, it took time for Agents to get their Title shot due to UBL being forced to go on hiatus. When we returned at '13', Tyler and Goro objected to Sun & Moon relinquishing their Tag Titles before facing them. So we had an impromptu match which Agents almost actually won. They came within a hair of beating the long time Battalion Champions. And, even though they fell short, they showed what they were capable of. I can understand Ruby's consternation.
However, Jeff and Jack Monroe are dangerous men. Jeff and I were two of the original members of the Front Line roster in 2009. I was not at his level then and he steamrolled through the division. We're talking about a man who in his rookie year was only narrowly defeated by Thunder Strike, Terry Butcher, and Orochi Geese. It was Geese, of course, who injured Jeff Monroe and in a way we all thought would lead to permanent retirement. We still don't have an explanation of how he is back in the ring or what his specific relation to Jack Monroe is. Are they brothers, cousins? Ruby simply said they are Destiny members and no further questions need to be asked. We know they are both dangerous. Jeff seems a lot quieter, a lot less arrogant, and a lot less vocally assertive than he used to be. Jack hasn't said one word so far. I think Jeff may be the mentor of Jack, at least in the ring. Ruby appears to control them both completely.
From my own perspective, I'd say she is grooming Jeff to be the replacement for Joachim. I find that distasteful given Joachim's injury and the unforeseeable circumstances in which it occurred. I have yet to hear an update on him or any real concern on Ruby's part. But I want Joachim to know that when he is ready and healthy, he is still entitled to his NEXUS Championship rematch against me.
Now, let's get to the ring since it looks like Tyler can't wait to start this match against Destiny. Goro is trying to calm him down but Tyler is already feigning some strikes from a distance at Jack who looks to be starting for their team. This is going to get physical and be intense. We haven't seen Jeff in a UBL ring for years now and I have no idea what to expect."

[Matt:] "That was an incredibly hard fought match. Jack Moreno calls that move the 'Summit of All Fears' as a play on his Summit name when he debuted under the mask. Of course, the Summit name itself was a play on the Apex which was Jeff Monroe's old nickname. I think Ruby had Jack use the Summit name to make us think Jeff was originally under the mask and not Jack. In either case, this is the first time we've actually seen that move and it was incredibly effective, actually defeating Goro Yamashita."
Tyler Alexander/Goro Yamashita (X) [Summit of All Fears - 21:03] (O) Jack Moreno/Jeff Moreno
[Matt:] "I am shocked that Destiny appears to be leaving without any further incident. It could be since Tyler looks incredibly agitated and they want to avoid any distractions on their way to the next round. I will say this - Destiny won this match cleanly but that doesn't seem to be doing much for Tyler's fiery mood right now. I understand his frustration, the Agents just lost two big Tag matches in a row and they will likely be at the bottom of the pecking order after this tournament. I think he needs to focus on his tag partner now though, as Goro still has not gotten up from Jack's finisher."
*Tyler Alexander helps a shaken Goro up to his feet. He put his hand on Goro's shoulder, trying to talk to him and check if he is okay. Goro shakes his head no. Tyler sticks out his hand to the back and starts to motion for help but then crushes Goro with a punch straight to the face, breaking Goro's nose and knocking him down and out.*
[Matt:] "Arthur, not gonna just watch this-"
*Matt throws his headset down, jumps up out of his commentator position, and starts running down the ramp. But he isn't able to get into the ring in time to stop Tyler from lifting Goro up and driving his head into the mat with a Northern Lights Bomb. Goro is completely laid out and still bleeding heavily from the broken nose. Matt throws his headset down, jumps up out of his commentator position, and starts running down the ramp. But he isn't able to get into the ring in time to stop Tyler from lifting Goro up and driving his head into the mat with a Northern Lights Bomb. Goro is completely laid out and still bleeding heavily from the broken nose. Matt is about to get to the ring but Tyler rolls out of it and jumps over the crowd barrier to put some distance between the two. Matt stops the pursuit and gets down onto the mat to attend to Goro. Medical personnel run down to the ring as well as Goro's allies: Marauder and a tired but determined JET Hamada. Marauder looks like he's going to pursue Tyler but JET and Matt hold him back.
Tyler takes off his 'Agents' attire, spits onto it, and throws it into the ring as the show ends.*
