"The Randolph Wire"
Continuum I started the Universal Championship League with physicality many of us did not expect to occur so early on. However, one match-up that took place carried animosity that had built for a long time.
Charles Langford sustained severe injuries in his match against Tetsu Gushiken. In addition to suffering a concussion, separated shoulder, and a broken nose, Charles is also suspected to have herniated discs in his neck. This was all the result of Tetsu Gushiken's devastating ring post-assisted ripcord knee, pictured below:
Sergeant Yoshida made it very clear to me that Tetsu will not be reprimanded. That is because his move was clearly done in self-defense against what appeared to be a ring post-assisted cross arm breaker. It was Langford who set that scenario up and Tetsu merely reacted with limited time to think. I have tried to reach out to Tetsu for comment but have not received a response. On my fourth try, Miss Matsuki helpfully told me to "Stop being so stupid, stupid."
But regardless of culpability, the injuries to Charles are grave enough to cast doubt on his continued participation in this league. Although his next match is not scheduled to be until Continuum IV, he has drawn the most dangerous card in the deck as he is set to face Corey O'Brian. Even if Charles is able to compete again, I can not imagine it a wise choice to come back from injury against Corey, especially with the way Charles and Kurt have run their mouths.
In the case Charles that can not return, an alternate appointed by him would fill his slot.
We'll be following this development over the coming months.
