*Arthur Wingate is standing in front of a UBL logo. He is wearing a suit and a solemn expression.
[Arthur:] "As the owner of the UBL, I would like to provide a thorough explanation to the fans as to our extended period of inaction since Continuum III in December of 2020. As a gentleman, I would like to deeply apologize to those who had the misfortune of experiencing the upsetting events that led to that hiatus. However, my even greater need is to start things in motion for a quick and sustained return. That means I must resist the urge to speak on the unpleasant actions and remain discrete on the resulting 15 months of negotiation with Gauntlet. That negotiation was overseen by the Department of International Commerce.
However, I am obliged to mention the three conditions that allowed us to move forward.
Condition 1: Gauntlet's leader, Jarec, made it clear that no deal could be made until APEX was returned. At Continuum III, the man known as APEX was abducted by Jakob of Furis. However, Jakob of Furis made it clear that this demand would not met without Dr. Schassberg being returned by Gauntlet. Dr. Schassberg was the mentor of Jakob and Darius Korvin. I was able to broker the exchange of "prisoners" without any escalation of tension.
Condition 2: Mr. Clyde and Gauntlet have been ordered to not confront each other during our events or on the property of the Peter Venkman Memorial Arena.
Condition 3: Gauntlet demanded a chance to appear on our events and media to express their views. I have acquiesced to this with the full confidence that we can counter their views with ours. As a show of good faith, they will be given the opening segment of our Second Dimension show - which is the event we will hold upon our return.
*Arthur stretches his neck and flexes his shoulders, as if shrugging off unpleasantness.*
[Arthur:] "Now that the unpleasantness is over, there are other issues to cover.
As Field Leader, Barton Miller has expanded the specialized "Basic Training" program of our Front Lines rookie roster. While we have not been able to run formal events since Continuum III, we have allowed existing and potential recruits to continue to train with each other in the UBL dojo without formal instruction. As we were cleared for return, Barton signed the new recruits to the Basic Training program as well as additional instructors. To meet the additional demand, he has restructured the program into two formal classes of seven students each. As students in the classes graduate, their positions will be filled by the remaining recruits. The entire program now consists of over 30 wrestlers. We are very excited to see the long term future of UBL unfolding in front of us. Stay tuned to the Second Dimension show for a special announcement from Barton Miller.
Mere moments after his match with Geese at Continuum III, James Ward approached me to resign from the Continuum league and retire from the UBL. The former action was the one that made things especially difficult for me given that Ward had already appeared in two matches of the league. On behalf of the UBL, I do wish Mr. Ward well in coming to terms with the last few years and moments of his career. But it has been with great difficulty that I have derived a solution for sudden vacancy in Block D. Continuing with less than the original number of competitors is not something that helps the integrity of the prize being fought over: nor does substituting a new wrestler into the roster once the league has already begun.
However, in this case, I have found a more than suitable replacement. As I mentioned at the start of the Collider Tour, one of my goals in holding this Continuum league was representing every Champion and Championship that we have had. Corey O'Brian was not the only man in the UBL who once held a Title that he did not lose. That honor belongs to Darius Korvin - the previous Field Leader. As the war with Destiny heated up, Darius took a principled stand by prioritizing his mission and supporting his allies. This meant relinquishing a Title and training role that was clearly well suited and very important to him. Although I did not feel Darius to be the best fit for the current Basic Training program, I still consider him an elite competitor. In his role as Field Leader, he earned impressive victories against former Basic Training peers that have gone on to great success such as Tetsu Gushiken. As such, I have no doubt that Darius brings with him a fierce fighting spirit that compliments his Championship history. Both aspects are quite welcome in this league and so he has been added to Block D in place of James Ward. Although I did not require the approval of his competition in that Block, they all supported my decision. Matt Rivers, in particular, seemed excited to face the Field Leader that came after him. Kazuo Saji will get the first opportunity to face Darius at Continuum IV in two months.
Charles Langford has been cleared of all injuries sustained during the previous two events that he competed on and is ready to resume his participation in Block C. Kurt Sanders and Jasper Woodruff are also ready to return to action. Although they did not miss any official events due to our hiatus, they did suffer injuries as a result of their matches during Continuum III. However, it is not all good news for "Three of a Kind." Kurt and Charles upended the highly anticipated and sanctioned Universal Circuit Title match meant to be held between THRASH Ogawa and William King. As punishment, each member of "Three of a Kind" are banned for one year from attending shows that they are not booked to wrestle on. Failure to comply with these terms may result in the removal of Kurt and Charles from their Blocks and removal of Jasper from any contention for the Universal Circuit Title.
I have no explanation for the appearance of Marie Reyes during the match between Alicia Gordon and Tsaoring Chou. I do have great respect for the sportsmanship and concern shown by Tsaoring and the resiliency of Alicia. I do not pry into personal matters but I acknowledge close relationships when they may have an impact on our official business. In this case, we can't deny the connection between Alicia Gordon and our head of security, Thunder Strike. At the least, Alicia is a member of his J.U.S.T.I.C.E. which assists his security efforts. It may be intimidating to her future opponents if that security group stays too close to the action. However, if Miss Reyes returns to a UBL ring without prior approval, then there will be repercussions. I have reached out to her sister Gloria, the owner of LAWL, and received little in the form of explanation as to Marie's actions. That is not meant to criticize Gloria but merely express a general shared failure to understand what occurred there. We hope that if Marie is listening that she seeks out the help of her family for whatever she is experiencing.
Finally, we are going to be stricter on post match interactions between competitors. I was not pleased at Brandr Hoff's aggressive reaction to Thomas Mills' inability to return to the ring. And Geese Walker, for all the "restraint" that he allegedly displayed in his match against Ward, had no business fanning the flame of frustration that Mills was already feeling. It appears we will have to further space out our matches from each other so as to give everyone a safe journey to and from the ring. At the very least, it will allow our fans to purchase more from our concessions stand which seems to be a win-win situation.
My countryman, the great William Shakespeare, once wrote:
While even a learned man such as myself can not improve on such a classic, allow me to offer my own version given the circumstances that have befallen the UBL in recent times.
Beautiful, really. Let us look forward to a renewal of our fighting spirit as the Collider Tour begins anew."
*Arthur gives a slight bow before walking off and the scene fades out.*
