*The camera opens up to find JET Hamada standing in front of a UBL banner. He is wearing a judoka gi over what appears to be new wrestling attire. Notably, he is not wearing his Universal Battalion Championship belt. His expression is stern but confident.*
[JET:] “You all deserve a sincere explanation for what Naja Mask and I did at the end of the 3rd Dimension show. It wasn’t an easy decision to relinquish the Universal Battalion Championship, or to publicly give up the belts immediately after we successfully defended them against El Exilio. But it all had to be done. It was lucky that Thunder Strike came out since he was the perfect representative to hand the titles to. However, the decision was already made before the match. Naja and I already planned to give up the Titles after we won since the act symbolized two things to us.
We wanted to go out on top to mark Naja's retirement and honor his career. Given his history with the Universal Battalion Title, he wanted his last match to be as a Champion. You probably want to hear these words, or wordssss *JET smirks* come out of his mouth directly but he’s already moved on. He's transitioned to a coaching role on the Basic Training roster. He's literally doing that right as I speak. If you hear anyone screaming in the background from a vice hold, you can chalk that up to him. Come by and watch him train the students if you want. But you’re not going to see him again as a full-time competitor, so he left me with the task of announcing his retirement. He doesn’t want to be in the spotlight just to announce his stepping away from it. Now he's all about cultivating the future of UBL and they are in good fangs, um, hands.
*JET briefly laughs but a far more serious expression replaces it.*
[JET:] "The second reason we gave up the Titles was to honor the spirit of competition in the UBL. That means it’s no longer right for us call ourselves the Champions. We sought the Titles for reasons that did not fully represent the mindset that one should have when shooting for a Championship. Naja and I won the Championship to secure it from El Exilio. We respect the legacy and meaning of the Universal Battalion too much to see it held by El Exilio. The initial challenge took away their Titles and the recent defense knocked them far down the ladder of contention. That was our entire plan. We did it to protect UBL and don't regret that mindset for one second. But now that the job is done, we have to step down.
And since I’m being honest, I’ll admit it – we also wanted revenge against them. We knew how much they valued the Titles as a trophy against UBL. Taking them away, and keeping them away, felt like the best payback. I will never forgive Yoshiro for all that he did to us. It was hard enough watching my former best friend turn into what he is now, but it was even worse watching the effect it had on our mentor. From the time he turned his back on us to become Yoshirozuna, to sullying Barton’s legacy with his paranoid and violent actions, to actually ending Barton’s career, Yoshiro had gone so far off the reservation that it’s painful to even think about. But our war with them is over because it has to be. We accomplished our mission so we had to end our reign before we started to hurt the Titles we tried to protect.
Just as I won’t forgive Yoshiro for what he did, I won’t forgive myself if I fail to honor the spirit of competition those titles represent. In fact, that’s even why I offered to shake Yoshiro’s hand at the end of the match. It wasn’t an offer of friendship or forgiveness. It wasn’t even an expression of solidarity after what we all did to Gauntlet. It was simply a gesture of respect for the match that he and Palido fought with us. They deserved that but, more importantly, the Championship deserved that. Whatever their intentions for those Titles or their careers, they each fought with everything they had in that match. Respecting the titles and competition means respecting their efforts in that match. That's why Thunder Strike came out, after all. Had El Exilio initially fought like that to honor the Titles, we never would have challenged them."
*JET grabs a bottle of water from off camera. He takes a drink then splashes some on his face. He walks in place a bit then looks at the camera with a newfound look of determination*
[JET:] "But now it's time for me to fly solo. Giving up the Battalion Championship didn't just honor them, it reoriented my trajectory. I had to jettison the title so that I could soar higher than I ever have before. In doing so, I can fully honor all of the Championships of the UBL by assuring that I am competing for the right one.
Returning to the tag division to face El Exilio interrupted the course of my career. After Barton and I lost the titles to Sun & Moon, my plan was to focus on a singles career. That is where my true motivation have been this entire time so that should define my title hunt. It's also where Barton wants to see me compete. I would honor him more by following his hopes and dreams for me than continuing my war against El Exilio.
But the way forward isn’t that simple due to the branching paths UBL has. So now it’s time to address the head honcho. Arthur Wingate, I want a spot in the Infinite Continuum Championship league. In fact, I know exactly whose spot I want. It’s held by my friend, and rival, Tetsu Gushiken. I'll make it even easier for you because he and I have already talked about this. Just like Naja, Tetsu is just focused on being a Basic Training coach right now. Personally, I’d rather see Tetsu in the ring, preferably against me, but he’s not there yet. So he is willing to give up his spot in Block C to me if you allow it. This isn’t the first replacement made in the league but it’s certainly the best one.
And if the winner wants to claim to be the true Infinite Continuum Champion, he's gonna have to make it through me first. The era of JET has now formally launched. Secure your tray tables and put your seats in an upright position. The contents of your spine may shift upon suplex."
*JET makes a quick airplane launching motion with his hand and smiles at the camera as the promo ends.*
