(I know, it's a month late. These things happen, I apologize )
The ninth show of the singles league is upon us and we only have TWO shows left after this! As the league approaches its swan song, we know we'll always have the fun times with "Mean" Jean Carter to remember.
[MJC:] "What a nice thing to say-"
And by that I mean she puts out.
[MJC:] "Well forget this, now I'm not going about my shpiel for tonight! And it was such a good one too, I was gonna talk all about this epic main event of Twinky McLanahan vs. Orochi Geese! Not to mention the huge co-main events of Bak Fu vs. Nick Strife and Jason Hyde vs. Jack Dod! But now...nothing, you won't hear a PEEP out of me! That's it, no more Ms. Nice Carter. If you want me to talk again you'll have-"
*As MJC struggles to continue to draw attention to her plight, we see two OTHERS in the ring who look less then pleased. And so our in-ring show officially begins with "Snake Mountain" members Marauder and Naja Mask in the ring. Naja has a microphone, this should be ssssassy!*
[Naja:] "I will never forgive Nick Ssssstrife for what he did to me: using my own technique (the Anaconda Vice), to knock me out and injure my neck. *rubs his collar bone in pain* But what happened after was a travessssssty! When Marauder tried to help me, Nightmare took advantage of the ssssssituation and sssstole the match! But he and Sssssttrife will pay for what they did. Marauder will sssshow every-
*Marauder grabs the mic from Naja's hands*
[Marauder:] "I can talk for myself. Now listen, tonight I'm gonna show why I'm winnin this 'ere league! So lets start this match already, I'm tired a'talken!"
Marauder throws the mic down as Naja gives an encouraging nod and walks backstage. Flip comes out shortly after with a calm smirk on his face, he clearly is going to try to use his poise to get the edge in this match in the face of Marauder's uncommon heightened emotional state. But the question is whether Marauder's anger is focused or unfocused, and given his comments about winning the league in comparison to Naja's about revenge, Marauder's mind may be in the right place to compete after all. But will his body be after the hurting that Nightmare put it through last show? Let's find out right now!

And what a heartbreaking loss for Flip Staley! He was clearly dominating the early going of the match until Marauder scored with a HUGE head butt that cut Flip badly, causing his to bleed all over the place! (despite the fact the head butt hit nowhere near his face...) This was one of the turning points of the match and got Marauder back into things. But this wouldn't be the end of the night for Flip as he again built some momentum and even hit his "Gaia's Repast" Brainbuster finisher...but it tragically (for Flip at least) sent Marauder outside the ring and away from a possible pinfall! After some major abuse by both men outside the ring, it was Marauder to strike first once they got back inside, hitting his "Centrifugal Silencer" (Haiti Edge) for the win! Still, Flip deserves a lot of credit for being the first one in this league to take Marauder out of the match for as long as he did, but eventually the power and onslaught of Marauder was too much.
Marauder (O) ["Centrifugal Silencer" - 14:09] (X) Flip Staley
As Marauder leaves the ring, Centurion comes out to the ramp from behind the curtain to walk to the ring for his next match. Centurion steers clear of Marauder, remembering a few weeks back to their match where Marauder SPLIT open his armor. No doubt that left physical and mental scars and Centurion wants no part of a still-angry Marauder. In his haste to avoid him, he steps aside. However, Centurion was distracted and didn't see who was standing near the floor area right behind him. It's Naja Mask, who hadn't left the stage area after his earlier promo with Marauder and no doubt sought to ambush Centurion upon his entrance. Naja pushed Centurion's legs from behind, causing him to trip and fall into Marauder. This is NOT good news for Centurion as Marauder assumes he is being attacked, catches Centurion, lets out a mighty yell, and DRIVES Centurion into the stage with the "Centrifugal Silencer". Marauder isn't one to treat suspected attackers with mercy, and then spits on Centurion on the way out. This leaves a very woozy and pained Centurion to attempt to get up...and is then 'helped' to his feet by a most willing Naja Mask. Naja takes control of Centurion's head and walks him to the ring, where he then deposits him inside. And apparently that's good enough for Coach McGuirk to get this match started! Here we go!
Match #2 - Centurion vs. Naja Mask
Yeah, here's a surprise, Centurion's in trouble before the match begins! But unlike last show where the issue was simply being outmatched by Twinky McLanahan, this time he was tricked and set up to be destroyed by Marauder before the bell even rung! Naja Mask continues the assault with punishing chops to the face, a strategy he likely adopted after seeing its usefulness proven by Twinky last show. But when it comes time to finish Centurion, Naja faces some difficulty. He can't physically lift the hulking, armor-laden Centurion into a "Fang Cutter" (Osaka Street Cutter) and he isn't strong enough that his neck submissions penetrate Centurion's armor. Centurion seems to realize that Naja is in trouble here and begins actually rallying a bit with his own chops, sending Naja into the corner. But Naja's position seems to spark his mind as his sense of purpose comes back in the form of an eye rake, followed by a "Venom Spew" (Poison Mist). He then props himself up to the second rope, grabs Centurion's head and uses Centurion's own height as leverage to hit the "Flying Fang" (Shiranui). Naja covers and gets the easy three count!
Naja Mask (O) ["Flying Fang" - 4:13] (X) Centurion
Naja Mask did it, he finally won a match in this league! What's that, you say? It was either him or Centurion, so its not that big a surprise! A pox on you for not getting into the spirit of noble Naja's celebration! Maybe it's you, the viewer, who is REALLY the venom spewer, the venom of CYNICISM. No wait, it's Naja. Never mind! In any case, Naja picked a good week to have his plan work. As after being knocked out at the hands of Nick Strife last show, even Centurion would have been too much for Naja to face without manipulating Marauder to soften up Centurion. A plan well hatched by Naja for sure, though he doesn't win himself any new fans for doing it as the vehement booing by the crowd demonstrates.
That is proven all the more true as Naja leaves the ring and passes by Thunder Strike who has come out for his own match. Naja hisses at Thunder Strike, who simply sneers at Naja and shakes his head disappointed at his tactics. He even mutters: "THIS is what you're reduced to, tricking Centurion to eek out a win?" Naja attempts to attack in retaliation for that biting verbal barb (which IS pretty harsh, and just as true), but Jang Bae comes out from the back to accompany his ally Thunder Strike, Naja doesn't dare attack with these odds and slithers to the back as Jang smirks. Thunder and Jang go to the ring where Jang begins looking under the ring. The crowd looks confused but, sure enough, Jang ACTUALLY PULLS SOMEONE OUT FROM UNDER THERE! It's Nightmare, Thunder Strike's opponent! Apparently the opportunistic Nightmare tried to get a jump on Thunder, but him and Jang were a step ahead of him! Jang waves his finger disapprovingly and throws Nightmare into the ring towards Thunder Strike. And it looks like the match is about to begin when...NO! UBL Sergeant Drake Yoshida comes out with a microphone! He shakes his head at Thunder Strike and then waves his finger at Jang as they had both recently done to others.
[Drake:] "Now now Thunder Strike, did you REALLY think Geese was going to allow your little strategy? Your 'back-up' plan, as one might say? You seriously expected to have your friend Mr. Bae back you up for every remaining league match by coming out with you to ringside? How is THAT going to discourage, as you say, "shenanigans" in the UBL. All it will do is create an unfair advantage towards you, as we just saw against Nightmare. Nightmare was obviously just preparing for his match in his own special way. He wasn't bothering anyone and yet your flunky had to drag him out, rough him up, and give you the advantage. No, I don't think I will be allowing that again. Mr. Bae, you will come backstage. If a need for you arises-"
*Thunder Strike has already taken a microphone*
[TS:] "If a need for him arises, it will likely already be too late!! If Geese jumps me, we all know he's gonna try to end my career. The whole point of having Jang here-"
[Drake:] "Is to end Mr. Geese's career first? Ahh yes, your plans are well documented as you've been foolishly shouting them from the rooftop all year. But they won't be allowed under my regime."
[TS:] "You mean Geese's regime. I think you're the real flunky, after all."
[Drake:] "Ahh, still think I'm biased, after all these weeks of me calling every match down the middle? Perhaps I should prove to you that I am running UBL as fairly as I used to. And that's why I can't have anyone outside the ring intimidating your, or anyone else's, opponents. You don't see Geese come to the ring with Figaro and Clyde, do you? There, exactly. So Mr. Bae, go backstage right now or face the penalty of being removed from the Reserve Roster. And Thunder Strike, watch how, as your new referee for this match, that I am completely non-biased and look out for everyone's best interes-"
*Before he could finish his sentence, Nightmare saw his opportunity and nailed Thunder Strike
in the back of the head with a Busaiku Knee!*
[Drake:] "A pity I can't disqualify him...the bell didn't ring yet, after all-"
*But one good surprise kick deserves another, as Nightmare just unfortunately found out. He didn't see Jang Bae get in the ring behind him and retaliate with an crescent roundhouse kick to the back of HIS head. Jang grins at Drake Yoshida, exits the ring and heads towards the ring bell. He then tells the timekeeper to ring the bell, which he does, much to Drake's chagrin. Drake then rushes down to the ring to honor his referee duties as Jang passes him with a smile on his face. Let's get to the match!*

Nightmare put up quite a fight, almost getting a victory with a shocking flying frankensteiner that spanned half the ring! He came close to making Thunder Strike tap out as well and also hit some devastating striking combinations, including a poison mist followed by his trademark Busaiku Knee. But Nightmare was not the only one wielding a deadly knee tonight, as it was Thunder Strike's [Cacopho-knee that brought Nightmare down after a fierce assault including his own strike combinations and painful stomach crushing drops. Thunder Strike fought off Nightmare's aggressive assault and earned yet another victory in this league, putting him close to being in the lead if his other top rivals tonight do not come through in their matches.
Thunder Strike (O) [Cacopho-knee - 15:47] (X) Nightmare
Next up we have a huge match as the heroic and accomplished Nick Strife faces, arguably, the most dangerous man in this league (and WORLD!? ), Bak Fu. (Norris, Bauer, and Diesel ain't got NOTHING on Bak!). But Nick isn't a pushover, having beaten the likes of OrochiGeese and Marauder in this league and looks to step into the ring and claim victory over a man with no remorse and no limits on the physical pain he can bring or withstand. A man who tested Nick's own mentor, Twinky McLanahan, countless times before. Both men here are still in the running to win or at least tie for the lead in this league so, given the fact there are only two shows left after this, both men have to step up here in a BIG way. Determination, skill, and a gameplan are all key factors here for victory, but so is the ability NOT to get knocked out by landing forcefully on one's own head. And now we go to the ring where both men are staring at each other stoically. They touch gloves out of respect for competition and this match begins!

And both men fought tooth and nail for this victory, with Nick Strife throwing practically all he had at Bak but just couldn't get the job done against the man who Nick's own mentor has always struggled with. Bak Fu, after taking so much abuse in the form of Anaconda Vices and Tiger Suplexes, gave himself some breathing room and got some end match momentum going with a huge diving kneedrop. Shortly after, he caught Nick Strife with his "Last Breath" (Buffalo Sleeper) and Nick was just too exhausted to fight out of it. It is quite possible that this was Bak's strategy all along, see how much the upstart Strife could throw at him while watching him fatigue himself. Bak may have relied on his own endurance and inhuman threshold for pain, and struck just when Nick showed major signs of fatigue. Or hey, make up your own interpretation!
Bak Fu (O) ["Last Breath" - 19:19] (X) Nick Strife
And the match is over but the action is not. While Bak Fu leaves the ring, he doesn't see Jack Dod crawling into the ring from the opposite side and getting in back of a still-recovering Nick Strife! He immediately clips Nick's leg, causing him to fall down in pain. Jack reaches into his tights and pulls out what looks to be BRASS KNUCKLES. He proceeds to punches Nick HARD in each kneecap and the sickening sound of brass on bone resonates through the arena, not to mention finally alerts Bak as to what is going on. Bak gets back into the ring and chases Jack away but its clear that the damage is done. And Jack's planned attack to weaken Nick before their encounter for next show has been viciously accomplished. Bak begins chasing Jack around but we then see Caleb Dod sitting in the front row who stands up. Jack hops the rail and stands behind Caleb who is now engaging an angry (but tired) Bak in a staredown. The crowd practically shits themselves in fear here but luckily a large group of UBL security comes to calm the situation before anything particularly nasty goes down. Meanwhile the UBL medical team comes down and slowly puts Nick onto a stretcher, both his knees may be broken here and its unsure if he'll be able to even make it to the next show.
Jason Hyde now makes his entrance (as his match is next) and passes by Nick who is being carried out. Jason takes a look at his condition and gets a look of rage on his face directed at Jack who is still standing with Caleb, congratulating each other. Jason immediately grabs a microphone and looks to Jack:
[Jason:] "Hey Jack! This is pretty damn low even for you, hurting Nick so he won't get a fair shot at you next match. Geese tried that on me, and it didn't stop me beating him last show. So I guess it's up to me to even the odds for Nick by taking you out right NOW!"
Strong words from Jason Hyde! And Jack isn't too fond of being called out like that, despite not looking too concerned with Jason's actual threats. Jason throws down the mic and sprints towards Jack, changing direction slightly as he slides into the ring to dodge Jack's attack and rolling to his feet in a single motion.
