History and/or Personality
The Yamashita family moved from Kyoto, Japan to China for business purposes shortly after Goro was born. As he grew up, he began to excel in Chinese style boxing and won a number of top championships, earning the highest one an under-18 competitor could earn. He hoped to compete in the professional leagues but his success scared a number of competitors and angered past opponents.
One night the school that he trained at was the target of an arson which burned the entire place down. Unfortunately, Goro was one of the members who was injured and sustained multiple burns on his body. The burns to his legs never fully healed and affected his mobility to such an extent that he was no longer able to pursue a career in the professional leagues where the highest degree of agility was required. It was never proven who did it but many believed it was due to those fearing Goro's future successful career. There was some suspicion that corruption had occurred as the police file on the case was closed shortly after the arson occurred.
His family was greatly affected by the tragedy, and the lack of proper reaction to it, and moved back to Japan to be with their extended family. There, Goro trained in boxing on the side but it was clear he would never be back in the form necessary to compete professionally. However, his interest in the arson investigation led him to pursue law enforcement and he became an officer in the Kyoto police force. While his career was going well and he was rising through the ranks, he fell to personal temptation. His obsession for justice to be served in his own case led him to use his improving connections in the force to attempt to reopen the case from China. When this was discovered, he was dismissed from the force on ethical grounds.
With nowhere else to go, he turned to providing security for private organizations. It was this period of his life that he joined the old UBL security team and quickly became head of it, forging a friendship with Sergeant Drake Yoshida and becoming familiar with many of the early UBL roster members such as Orochi Geese, Thunder Strike, and Marauder: who he had much in common with, specifically. When UBL was unexpectedly bought out and moved to the US by Orochi Geese, he lost his job due to not wanting to travel to the US and abandon his family. He tried to make ends meet but struggled as the Japanese pro wrestling scene had lost prominence. However, he was given new employment by the returning Drake Yoshida who not only hired him as his personal security guard but also arranged for him to begin wrestling to allow him to reclaim the spirit of competition and greatness that had been stolen from him.
Due to his reduced level of physical activity, he has put on much more weight then a traditional chinese boxer would have. But this weight has been turned into muscle and Goro is ready to use his impressive and explosive physical power to his advantage in a wrestling ring.
Goro is an honorable man and fighter, and he is loyal to Drake for the opportunities that have been given him. He has also rekindled his old friendships on the roster with Thunder Strike and especially Marauder. Goro backed Marauder up during his violent split with Naja Mask and has provided him physical aid and guidance ever since. He has also become friends with Coach Jean Carter, Luke Kisiera, and Matt Rivers. With the coming chaos in UBL, it is good to know they have Goro Yamashita to count on!
