(This is still a WIP but I figured we needed all the rules in 1 place rather then confusingly spread out amongst the unwieldy 10 page thread!. If you think I'm omitting something, let me know in that thread.)
General information in our quest to crown the 2008 "Universal Battalion"
Rules
- Each handler chooses a "Battalion" consisting of 3 wrestlers.
- Each official league match features "teams" of 2 wrestlers within each Battalion facing each other.
- Decision 2008: Each handler decides who on their Battalion will participate in each team match. Handlers can choose that at the very start of the league or they can do so as the league progresses. This will lend a rotisserie aspect and allow them to improvise if a team strategy is not working. Note: If I do not hear from a handler about wrestler selection for a given week (or the entire league), I will select their team members.
- Fatigue system: For each subsequent show that a wrestler participates in a match, points will be deducted from their defensive attributes. So if a wrestler is in a match for two straight shows, they will get one point deducted from each defensive stat before their match on the second show begins. (1)
- Match setup - Tornado: OFF. Elimination: ON. (2)
Shows
- I will post the schedule in the next month.
- Each show will take place in a DIFFERENT arena around the world. Those arenas will be based on the "home locations" of each Battalion. When a team is in their home location, they will be in the main event. Due to the logistics of things, not every team will get to wrestle in their home location.
- Each Battalion will be placed in one of FOUR League BLOCKS. Those blocks are self-contained and so no wrestlers from Block A will be put up against wrestlers from Block B in official league sanctioned matches.
- Each BLOCK will have 7 Battalions each.
- This League starts on Sunday, March 2nd and ends (?) . Each month, there will be two sanctioned shows (3) bringing us two Universal Battalion League shows a month. (4).
- There will be 14 shows in total as part of the league itself.
- Each show will combine two blocks for a total of 7 matches per show, in this format:
Block A match 1
Block A match 2
Block A match 3
*Interblock 3 on 3 tornado tag match*
Block B match 1
Block B match 2
Block B match 3
- Since we have Blocks of 7 Battalions (and effectively, 7 teams) each, one Battalion will inevitably have one "odd team out" for each show due to the numbers. BUT, since we are combining two Blocks into shows, the "odd team out" from each block will face each other in a 3 on 3 "interblock" tornado rules match. This match will not count for actual tag league rankings but will ensure no team has an "off week" of wrestling.
- There will be a separate Fatigue system for participants of the 3 on 3 wrestler matches. The wrestler who actually loses the match will be the recipient of the "-1" deduction for each defensive stat as opposed to the fatigue system for the sanctioned matches (docking ALL those that participate in the match.)
- The system of combining blocks for shows will happen on a rotating manner. So Block A/B and C/D may combine for the first set of shows, but then we will have A/C and B/D for the next set.
Finals
- When the League schedule is concluded, there will be a two-round Final Tournament. The first round, the semifinals, will include the single top Battalions (by win/loss record) from all four blocks. Block A's winner will face Block B's winner. And Block C's winner will face Block D's winner.
- The winners of those matches will then face each other in the next tournament round, the Finals, which will be the Universal Battalion Championship match.
- The Finals will have a two out of three falls style format. Tornado: Off. Elimination: On.
- The Semifinals AND Finals will likely take place at the OG-FPD 5th Year Anniversary PPV!
- Final note about overall booking/planning of Battalion League.
------------------
(1) The purpose of this system is to ensure that handlers are deterred from keeping their stronger wrestlers in every match. The secondary purpose is to get some variety and strategy into the team choices.
(2) Becoming the Universal Battalion Champion means that your teams have dominated the competition. Forcing each team to eliminate EACH member of the opposing team goes a long way towards achieving that.
(3) UBL "Open" shows" do not count as "sanctioned shows".
(4) Due to the sheer amount of matches this league will have, there will be much more of an emphasis on write-up matches then video matches. But I do expect to have a few video matches each month. Also, each round in the Final Tournament will exclusively feature video matches.
