Universal Battalion League - 2008
Week 1: Show 2
Arena: Nameless Municipal Arena - Philadelphia, PA
*The camera focuses on "Mean" Jean Carter who is standing near the ring with a microphone*
[MJC:] "Hi! I'm Jean Carter and we're here with the second show of the 2008 Universal Battalion League! We are actually LIVE from the New Damage Pro Wrestling arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and we'd like to thank NDP and boss Moto for all their help in setting this show up. We know the NDP office and fans are very much looking forward to their Team NDP Battalion representing them tonight!"
*The NDP fans erupt in chants evoking their hero, Matt Shane*
[MJC:] And tonight we will also be revealing the two teams that have been hidden up until tonight!! One from each of the two Blocks that we'll be showing tonight, Blocks A and B. But really, this is the first night for ALL of the teams in these Blocks to strut their stuff in the UBL ring. The teams in Blocks C and D made quite the impression during our previous show and I'm sure tonight's teams are going to be anxious to prove themselves as THE top Battalion in UBL. Let's take a look at the matches we have for you tonight!"
(Quick Notes: The Block Matches are for league rankings and consist of 2 on 2 elimination tags. The InterBlock match is not for league rankings and consists of a one fall, 3 on 3 tornado match)
Tonight's Card:
Block A matches:

And the Llamas Brothers put up an incredible effort against J.U.S.T.I.C.E but it was not enough to counteract the speed of Jason and the martial arts skills of Jang Bae. However, it seemed that Llamas Jr. and Bobby both gained a lot of respect from the crowd as they matched up very well, and even had the advantage during parts of this match. In the end, though, J.U.S.T.I.C.E showed why they came into this league as one of the Battalions many people considered to be top contenders to win this league.
J.U.S.T.I.C.E (O) [Victory Roll Armbar - 26:58] (X) LLAMAS Brothers
Match #2: Team Kaboom vs. SNUH
Hector Smyth/Augusto Vilmar vs. Khlau Kalash/Crab Juice
This was a bizarre, bizarre match. Hector Smyth and Augusto Vilmar put on a great show of speed and technique but were unable to take the monstrous Khlau Kalash off his feet. Every time they appeared to get the advantage, Crab Juice would exert his influence by throwing a can of undesirable Mt. Dew at them. The ref, Coach McGuirk, seemed unwilling to intervene in this sound strategy.
That is, until, Augusto (sporting a NICE head of hair, if I do say so, myself) got fed up and actually CAUGHT one of the cans of Dew, cracked it open, guzzled it, and SPIT IT in the face of Khlau Kalash. The wails of the giant were matched only in disturbance by the pained looks on the audience faces, shocked that someone would actually drink the "xtreme" beverage to begin with, if not also spit it in someone's face. This was too much for the Coach, who finally put his foot down after MONTHS of "liberally" following the rules, and he immediately DQ'd Vilmar on the spot. He also gave Kalash a towel to wipe his eyes and face.
This left Smyth in the ring with the angry giant, and a few Khlau'y chops were all it took from this enraged beast to put Smyth down. Khlau covered him for the easy three count, but it was clear that Team Kaboom managed to "get to" the giant and his soul may never be the same.
Team Kaboom (X) [Khlau'y Chops - 14:15] (O) SNUH
[MJC:] "It's me again! And no, I won't be commenting on what we just saw! Way too gruesome!! I am here though to officially introduce the mystery team for Block A. So let's extend a big Universal welcome to the 4CPW Battalion!! 4CPW is a small fed that is just making its way into the national public eye. Let's see how they fare tonight against the BINGO-1 team of the Busch Boys!"
Match #3: 4CPW vs. Busch Boys
Mike Gainer/Minus vs. Raz/Duz Busch
Minus starts off with Raz Busch and there's a brief "feeling out" process before Minus starts initiating "weird" grapple exchanges. What's weird about them is that even when it's clear Minus has the advantage, he suddenly falls backwards and make it seem that Duz hiptossed him. Then Minus stares at Duz and tries to soak in the cheers of a "competitive" wrestling exchange. This causes the fans to start to respond, but not in the way Minus intended. Instead of an appreciative "indy clap", they start chanting: "This ain't ROH, this ain't ROH". Philly fans are known for getting involved but I'm guessing this wasn't the way Minus intended.
Mike Gainer tags himself in and immediately the flow of the match changes. Mike is all business here, in comparison to the "looking for indy love" Minus. But the Busch Boys aren't ones to back down from a fight and this match is officially ON. Mike proves to be a competent brawler and gets the advantage on Duz, but eventually the Busch Boys teamwork gets the better of him. However, after what happened earlier in the match, Mike is a bit tentative to get Minus back in the ring. But finally, Mike's self-preservation takes over. After the Busch's get a 2.9 count from a double powerbomb, Mike is crafty enough to score a chin breaker on the frustrated Raz. He then crawls over to Minus and tags him back in.
Minus is a lot more focused this time, seemingly even frustrated at himself for his display earlier. And we now see what this man can do, hitting a ton of stiff strikes which lead up to a series of "puro" style head drops. The crowd still isn't totally cottoning to him, as he appears to be yelling stuff like "strong style, bitches!" and likewise, but he at least appears to be able to handle himself in the ring. He even manages to eliminate a dazed Raz with a "Hurricane Slam" he calls the "Trendkiller". This leaves Duz left but he's no easy task. And Minus' "playing to the crowd" gets him in trouble here. As he attempts some kind of post diving frankensteiner (with a flip in the air for good measure), Duz catches him and brutally powerbombs him to the mat for the 3 count!! But before Duz even has a chance to get up, Mike Gainer runs into the ring (now the legal man) and IMMEDIATELY hits him with a flatliner!! Duz is out and Mike gets the 3 count!
4CPW (O) ["No Gainer" - 18:20] (X) Busch Boys
The crowd gives a mixed reaction to 4CPW but you gotta give Mike credit for being opportunistic here at the right time. They walk away with a victory in their first match. And it's now intermission time!
*The fans are greeted with a very VERY impressive Intermission period. Not only is there numerous merchandise available from both UBL and New Damage Pro wrestling, but they are also treated to a new dining experience! Yes, that's right, UBL is proud to now feature the "Park's Chippy"s food cart!! Park Young-Tae, himself a participant in the PTFW Battalion, is out there serving up some delicious food to the fans. Even Jean Carter gets into the act...until she mistakenly orders a sausage. The merch table features a brand new shirt which the Philly fans are snatching up by the box: Minus' "Strong style, Bitches!" shirt is the big seller for tonight! Though it's not clear if this shirt is being enjoyed ironically or not, I doubt OrochiGeese's checkbook will care either way. Other items include Team Moon Gas waffle gloves (them waffles be HOT!), "Park's Chippy's" chef aprons, "Gainer-ade" sports drinks, and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. headbands.
The merch table remains open until the Block B matches begin but it is NOW time for the interblock 6 man tag between two of the most feared Battalions, Snake Mountain and the Freedom Brigade!*

A very hard fought match by both teams. Freedom Brigade showed incredible endurance and fight throughout this match, with Captain Kickass even withstanding Naja Mask's Venom Fang" late in the match. But it was the resiliency of Marauder that won the match as he popped up after a devestating-looking cobra clutch suplex by Aaron, only to then surprise him with the Centrifugal Silencer for the victory.
Snake Mountain (O) [Centrifugal Silencer- 16:07] (X) Freedom Brigade
But Snake Mountain isn't stopping their attack even though the match is over!!! Naja continues to stomp on Captain Kickass, Naja is STOMPING ON FREEDOM!! And Marauder and Nightmare hold back Red Coogan and Aaron Eldridge as Naja Mask lifts up Kickass. Venom Spew right to Kickass' face!! Naja instructs Marauder to run the ropes for the "Inertian Hammer" (Polish Hammer) but at that moment someone runs down to the ring and trips him up! It's Bak Fu!! BAH GAWD ITS THE LETHAL HEAD-DROPPER HIMSELF!! And he's not alone! Cause two seconds later, he's joined by none other then Nick Strife!! Nick Strife has come down with him! And he's wearing a McPro shirt (which is quickly censored by the UBL video technicians). They get in the ring and help the Freedom Brigade toss out Snake Mountain!! But what are they doing here!?
*Drake Yoshida comes out looking with a microphone looking FURIOUS*
[Drake:] "Damn it! Already you've put your noses into my business! This was to be Snake Mountain's chance to eliminate the Freedom Brigade from the League!! But no, YOU two had to get involved. Thorns in my side during the Champions League, and thorns once again. I knew it would be nothing but trouble to allow you back into UBL. But that damn 3 year contract with Twinky McLanahan wasn't just with him...it was with McPro. And with McPro back, we had to accept a team here representing it. Mark my words though, if you get out of line again, what Jack Dod did to your leg, Strife, is NOTHING compared to what I have in store for you. And Bak...don't think what happened at the PPV was an indication of you being able to run roughshod over my men whenever you want. Your time will come...maybe sooner then later."
*Drake smirks and leaves as Snake Mountain follows him. Team McPro stays in the ring.*
Block B
Match #4: McPro vs. Legitimate Businessman's Club
Nick Strife/Bak Fu vs. Rocky Marioni/Sal Monella
This...does not go well for the Legitimate Businessman's Club. "There's a bit TOO much drama in the LBC" tonight as both Marioni and Monella fight over who gets to stay on the apron as a pumped-up Bak Fu awaits them. Bak's reaction to their bickering? Make the decision FOR them with a flying knee to Monella that knocks him off the apron and a half-nelson suplex on Rocky bringing him INTO the ring. The crowd is going absolutely NUTS for Team McPro as Bak is in the process of obliterating Marioni with mounted elbow strikes to the face. Monella refuses to get into the ring, looking pretty much scared shitless by the bludgeoning his partner is now experiencing. And Marioni is getting so pummeled by Bak's elbows that he can't intelligently defend himself. When the ref, Kenshin, steps in to mercifully ask if Marioni has had enough, he assents and he is eliminated from the match. The one-inch dent in Marioni's skull will serve as a reminder to all that Bak's ability to end a match is not limited to head drops, the man is a deadly striker as well.
Monella slinks into the ring with a pale face...realizing his fate as the only man left for his team. Bak begins to advance on him but Nick shouts out to him. Then the fans get behind the idea of Nick getting into the match. As this would be the first time Nick set foot in a UBL ring since Jack Dod ended his Universal Champion attempt back in late 2007 by using brass knuckles on BOTH of Strife's knees. Bak gets behind the idea as well and tags in Nick to a big round of applause from the fans. Nick immediately begins running circles around Monella....showcasing his own speed and renewed leg strength. He even hits a few dropkicks to hammer the point home. Monella, to his credit, attempts to go after Strife's knee but his just draws a knee lift right under his chin. The stunned Monella then walks right into a Tiger Driver whip...which Strife transitions into his "Vice Grip" submission finisher which causes Monella to quickly tap out.
Team McPro (O) [""Vice Grip"- 12:20] (X) LBC
After the match, an enraged Rico Pizzicato runs down to the ring with an actual PIZZA CUTTER (and not just a piece of paper with the name of his finisher). This isn't that wise a move to begin with, as threatening Bak Fu with a weapon is well...why? Why would you DO THAT? But anyway, before Rico even gets the chance to use it...he is intercepted on the floor from behind by: Eddie. F'n. Swan.
Eddie Swan - Yes, the former PW-W Grandmaster Champion, the Olympian, the top in-ring talent of Team Ryder, has just run down to the ring and basically german suplexed Rico out of his sneakers (literally...the sneakers went into the stands somewhere, Rico then went to look for them cursing: "Those were f'n $150 sneakers!"). With Rico gone, the attention is squarely on the fact that Eddie Swan is wearing yet ANOTHER one of those ubiquitous Team McPro shirts. Holy shit, Eddie Swan is the 3rd member of the Team McPro Battalion. Holy shit...JO RYDER is sauntering down to ringside right behind Eddie to get in the ring with him and raise the hands of Nick and Bak in victory. The Battalion just got a whole lot more deadly, folks!
Match #5: Team BATT vs. Mad Gear Gang
Diablo/"Red Dragon" George Beckson vs. "Bull" Deke Armstrong/"Strongarm" Alex Louis Armstrong
Red Dragon starts out with Alex Armstrong or, A.L. Armstrong as he prefers to be called. A.L is a very big man, as is his brother Deke, and definitely outweighs both of his opponents. But he appears ready to ready with Red Dragon and the two open up with a sequence of holds before Dragon gets the advantage with a cobra twist. A.L. powers out and tags to his brother. Deke comes in and dares Dragon to try the same thing to him. Dragon obliges but Deke is able to break the hold from sheer power. And this trend continues as the superior wrestler Red Dragon has a lot of trouble with the giant of a man, Deke. However, it's clear that Deke isn't exactly too bright, as A.L. keeps screaming directions of HOW to break the hold from the apron.
Red Dragon grows frustrated at this odd "2 on 1" situation and tags in Diablo. Diablo, with a new gameplan for the team, immediately lays into Deke with a number of strikes, most notably a variety of shoteis. This begins having its effect on the somewhat clueless Deke, and causes him to retreat quickly backwards to his corner where he discusses strategy (i.e. takes orders) from A.L. When Deke comes back, he immediately charges into Diablo who attempted yet another shotei. The charge wins, and Diablo finds himself in trouble for the next few minutes, as Deke takes control with power style moves effecting Diablo's back.
Diablo is finally able to buy himself some breathing room with a well placed rolling kick, but when he attempts to pick up Deke for one of his own moves, he's simply not strong enough. Whether that's cause of the size of Deke or the punishmente Diablo has taken during the match, it's unsure. But A.L. instructs Deke to capitalize on Diablo's weakened state and bring him back to their corner. The Armstrong brothers then unleash a huge double powerbomb on Diablo. Red Dragon tries to break up the double team but the ref just sends him back. Meanwhile, Deke has gotten Diablo up for ANOTHER powerbomb, and begins lifting him ever higher over his head....then SLAMS Him down to the mat, "Last Ride" style, He calls this move the "Deke Break" and must treat it as a finisher since he is now pinning with it! Red Dragon is out of position, having just been forced back to his corner, and is unable to break the 3 count as Diablo is pinned.
The Armstrongs have a 2-1 advantage over BATT now, and Deke tags back to A.L, who is able to wrestle a bit more confidently now that his team is in the lead. Red Dragon again is able to outwrestle him, and goes back to his arsenal of cobra twists, even applying a torture cobra twist that he calls "The Dragon Coil". Deke has to run in and break that hold up, on the direction of A.L. As A.L. is scolding Deke for not getting in faster, Red Dragon spins him around, kicks him in the stomach, and then hits him with a fishermans DDT! He gets a 2.9 before, once again, Deke comes to his brother's rescue. Red Dragon is having a good measure of success out-wrestling A.L, but is unable to make any real progress due to Deke's presence. Finally, Red attempts a risky move. After putting A.L. down with a tiger suplex, he then runs over to Deke and dropkicks him off the apron! From there, he runs into the center of the ring and applies a Christo! Deke is unable to help his brother and after a few seconds of trying to hang on, A.L. eventually taps out.
But while the odds are now evened, Red has an angry giant in Deke Armstrong to contend with, and finds himself in a similar position as he did earlier in the match when he tried to out wrestle him. Actually, much MUCH worse as now Deke is enraged and isn't just breaking Red's holds, but also spiking his body on the mat in the process. Red can't take much more of this and Deke punctuates a regular powerbomb by holding onto him and then lifting him back up into yet another "Deke Break" for the final fall of the match.
Team BATT (X) [Deke Break - 22:15] (X) Mad Gear

And you gotta give Delphin Army credit here for putting up such a great fight in hostile territory. But the NDP fans were so behind their team that they even cheered Colleen Dramesi!! True, she IS the NDP Champion, but she's also not the most popular wrestler on the roster these days, what with her "I'm better then you cause I'm the best thing EVER" type attitude! But the fans got behind the actual skills that helped her make those claims, as she and Matt put away the very crafty JD Delphin and the MONSTER Gigatron. What's more, Matt and Colleen even showed an inkling of teamwork, which is shocking considering the disdain they have for each other. But either in the name of NDP, or just pure victory, they were able to get bast their differences and function as a very strong tag team, one that is surely a clear favorite in this league, even after all the top teams we've seen in these previous two shows.
