"Universal Base 10 Count" Tour
Show 3 - April 22, 2017
*The broadcast feed for the third show of the "Universal Base 10 Count" Tour begins with a video in sepia tone.
There is a watermark on the video that says "OG-Joshi Voltage- 4/22/07". We see flashback footage of a young, hungry, and maniacal Orochi Geese standing in an OG-Joshi Voltage ring with a microphone and a number of angry UBL wrestlers surrounding him.
[Geese:] "Drake Yoshida works for me now. And in his final act as UBL Boss...he convinced his father to sell the Yoshida owned UBL...to ME. I am the new Owner of the UBL, the Universal Battle League is now mine!!"
*A look of shock and anger registers on the faces of the wrestlers (especially Thunder Strike's) as the scene fades out.
The camera then focuses back on the current day in 2017. Matt Rivers, the UBL NEXUS Champion, is at the commentary booth.*
[Matt:] "Welcome to the third stop of the Base 10 Count Tour. We are here tonight in Seattle, Washington. All of our shows have been on the west coast to accommodate the frequent trips to Japan that many of our wrestlers take. However, after this week is over, we will be headed to the East Coast for the remainder of the Tour. The May 13th event will take place in Philadelphia and we're negotiating to hold the 'Base 10' Event in New York. Yes, that is right, Destiny. And you know exactly where in New York we are headed too. So how about you try and stop us? We dare you."
*Matt gazes directly into the camera with a look of determination.*
[Matt:] "Tonight we will see the entire second round of the Tournament to fill the vacant Universal Battalion Tag Championship. We will also see another Field Leader Title match as Darius defends against Kurt Sanders.
Let's get to the ring for our first tag match. The newly formed El Exilio will be facing long time partners in Watanabe Kai. One thing that both of these teams had in common was dominant performances in the first round. They also have stylistic similarities. Both Yoshirozuna and Mr. Shikori have sumo experience and are vicious and powerful men. El Fantasma Pálido and Kenichi Naito are not only agile but just as fiercely competitive as their tag partners. Pálido's once heroic empathy has morphed into a sociopathic apathy, on account of his perceived exile, that rivals Yoshirozuna's mean streak. As a result, Pálido has started to utilize maneuvers in pursuit of victory that could injure his opponents. Kenichi is incredibly versatile in offensive techniques ranging from limb-breaking submissions and blistering striking. Pálido has also apparently picked up some submission ability on his journey to South America, specifically in Brazil. Yoshirozuna and Mr. Shikori are going to shake this ring with their combined mass and momentum based attacks. It is impossible for me to choose a winner here because it is going to come down to teamwork. Does the career pairing of Watanabe Kai pose a problem for the thematic pairing of El Exilio? Yoshirozuna and Pálido see eye to eye on the treatment that they allegedly got in the UBL, but does that mean they will be able to seamlessly offset the long time partnership of their opponents?
Let's find out as both teams are now in the ring. Neither pairing received much in applause from the fans. It appears that Mr. Shikori is taunting Yoshirozuna, making a throat-cutting gesture. Given the ... allegations of organizational criminal activity that Watanabe Kai is involved in, I wouldn't be surprised if Yoshirozuna has experienced similar threats in his sumo career. Pálido looks like he has seen more than his share of this type of threatening activity while trying to save villages in his native Mexico. El Exilio may be the team that is actually the lesser of the two evils in regards to representing UBL as Champions, but they have to actually win tonight. Watanabe Kai does not look intimidated in the least, even with the tremendous figure of Yoshirozuna staring them down. But not being intimidated does not guarantee victory. Let's find out what does."

[Matt:] "El Exilio totally controlled the spacing of the ring at the end, paving the way for this finish. That was surprising to me. You have to give credit to Yoshirozuna for not only attacking but thoroughly neutralizing Kenichi. And I am very impressed at Pálido's superhuman achievement of launching Mr. Shikori off of his feet with that poison rana which I believe is being called the 'Pálidorana.'. The old adage of 'the bigger they are, the harder they fall' certainly played a role in this victory. Mr. Shikori's own weight was used against him as he was dropped on his head."
Yoshirozuna/Pálido (O) ["Pálidorana" - 17:48] (X) Mr. Shikori/Kenichi Naito
[Matt:] "They deserve praise. El Exilio did not back down despite Watanabe Kai unique offense and pressure. This hard fought victory by El Exilio paves their way to the Finals where they will face the winners of our other tag match tonight: Chr0m3 or Destiny. No matter what team advances, we now know that the motivation of revenge will be highlighted in the Finals. If Chr0m3 wins tonight, Kazuo Saji gets a chance of revenge against Yoshirozuna for injuring him at the Sumo Championships. However, if Destiny advances, El Exilio gets a chance for revenge against Destiny who El Exilio consider the initial cause of their required exile. That is despite the fact that neither Monroe was on the roster during the time of the event that Exilio claims as the catalyst: Joachim cleanly defeating both members of Exilio. But regardless of the legitimacy of El Exilio's claims, the finals of this tournament will now definitely have extra emotions on the line in addition to the actual Universal Battalion Championship Title."
Match 2: Kurt Sanders vs. Darius (c)
[Matt:] "And we turn next to the Field Leader Title, or at least we are supposed to. Yoshirozuna has not left the ring and has managed to grab a microphone. Meanwhile, Darius has come out and also has a microphone. He is tentative to step into the ring with Yoshirozuna and Pálido."
[Darius:] "Congratulations on your victory. Yoshirozuna, you are facing me next month in a Field Leader Title match. But I am not naive - I know that the reason you are still out there has nothing to do with me and everything to do with my planned opponent for the night: Kurt Sanders."
*At the mention of Kurt Sanders, Yoshirozuna BREAKS the microphone, causing the crowd to gasp.*
[Matt:] "Those are $100 a pop. Looks like Yoshirozuna's victory earnings for the night just took a cut."
[Darius:] "I won't be threatened. Kurt has been chosen by me to have a Field Leader match-"
*Yoshirozuna, who somehow got another microphone, cuts Darius off*
[Yoshirozuna:] "NOT BEFORE ME!"
[Darius:] "YOU left the UBL. Kurt stayed and trained, he got better. I don't approve of his past behavior toward you but he earned his shot."
*Pálido whispers something into Yoshirozuna's ear, causing him to smile. Yoshirozuna walks over to the ropes closest to Darius and leans over them as he starts to shout.*
[Yoshirozuna:] "Let's see him take it! Come on Kurt, you're a gambler now, roll the dice. Maybe I leave, maybe I don't."
*Yoshirozuna motions to the back as Kurt Sanders has still not come out.*
[Darius:] "Kurt, you have every right to face me right now. If you come out, we'll make sure that security removes these two."
[Pálido:] "Si amigo, security has has been great around here. Maybe you'll end up like Goro did last month, Kurt. Security helped him too."
[Matt:] "Thunder, we have a situation out here."
*A number of security guards flanked by Thunder Strike come out but El Exilio don't move. Thunder Strike gets on the house microphone.*
[Thunder:] "You are taking attention away from the real threat present tonight: Destiny. They are in the building yet you two children won't get out of the ring. That means that anyone they hurt due to this needless distraction to feed your egos...that's on you from here on out. Ironic given your current crusade. But I sense you care less about stopping Destiny than you do about using them as a scapegoat for your career frustrations."
*Thunder Strike cracks his knuckles and then cracks his neck side to side. He slowly approaches the ring, making eye contact with both men.*
[Thunder:] "But the real problem you both have is that now I'm getting frustrated too. And I don't have a usage for scapegoats because I handle my business directly with those who get in my way. So I am going to say this one last time: Your match is over and you have no further role here tonight. I personally witnessed Kurt Sanders fleeing the building as soon as you refused to leave the ring. If you don't leave the ring within 30 seconds, Arthur Wingate will declare your actions to formally constitute a forfeit in this tournament, rendering your recent victory null and void."
*El Exilio look angry and start to talk to each other as we go to a commercial break..*
*Advertisements air for the official card of "SWA Aftermath!"
[Matt:] "We're back and El Exilio has wisely heeded the ultimatum given to them. They left the ring soon after Thunder Strike's announcement on behalf of Arthur. They have something more to prove now given Thunder Strike's allegations of their motives. He called them out and now they must show what their goals truly are. I don't know what El Exilio want more though, the Universal Battalion Championships or the chance to put Destiny's head on a platter if they advance tonight. Regardless, they have gone to the back and are going to be escorted out of the building.
So I must admit that we are left with a unique situation. There is no one on the Basic Training roster that Darius considers ready for a Field Leader Title shot other than Yoshirozuna who just wrestled. During the break, I contacted Arthur in the back and had him look for Lucha La Barba. He earned a shot at my NEXUS Championship back at "13." We were originally going to have that match on the next show of the Tour but we promised you a Title match tonight and I want to deliver. It's short notice for both La Barba and I, but we both agreed to have our match tonight.
That's right, my NEXUS Championship is about to be put on the line in our next match tonight, an impromptu one. However, this is not the first time that I have ever faced Lucha La Barba. I initially encountered him in the main event of the final Basic Training show in 2011, back when Geese owned UBL. I defended my Field Leader Title against La Barba in arguably the best match of that chapter of my career. It was also considered one of the best matches of the year in the UBL and I have been looking forward to getting back in the ring with La Barba ever since then. I have been training for this rematch ever since "13" and I am ready. There will be no excuses. I know that La Barba is too. Let's get to-"
*Sergeant Drake Yoshida runs out to ringside (to an impressive and surprising amount of cheers) with a look of panic on his face and makes a beeline straight for Matt Rivers. He whispers something to him and Matt rushes backstage with Drake. A few minutes later, Darius comes out to the commentary booth with a stern face and gets on the house microphone to address everyone in the arena.*
[Darius: ]"Regrettably, Thunder Strike was correct. El Exilio's imposition on UBL Security created a power vacuum backstage which was filled in the most violent way possible. As Lucha La Barba was leaving his locker room to come to ringside for his ma tch, he was attacked by what appeared to be men in Gauntlet Security outfits. Lucha La Barba was beaten and tasered until he was unconscious. As a result, he is in no shape to wrestle and has been sent to a local hospital. I wish him the best now. He is a fine man and competitor and did nothing to deserve this attack"
*The crowd reacts with disappointment, fear, and disgust. After a few seconds of rumbling, some start chanting "Lu La-Barba" as Darius puts on the commentary headset.*
[Darius:] "But as to the identity of the perpetrators, I question the participation of Destiny. An attack like this could prematurely end the show tonight, a show featuring two Destiny members in the main event. I do not have one shred of respect for Ruby Moreno's morality but she isn't a fool. I can not believe that she would risk her own team being thrown out of the Universal Battalion Title Tournament. I am not saying that Destiny and their Gauntlet thugs are in the clear with this, but I can not see how this would have been a logical strategy for them to pursue.
If Destiny was involved though, this is a tragedy on multiple levels: One of them being pure irony. I don't know if El Exilio will connect the dots here so allow me to do so on their behalf. Their selfish and reckless behavior has once again led to Destiny violence. I don't question the motives or honesty of Fantasma Pálido and Yoshirozuna: they legitimately hate Destiny. But I can not think of two individuals unaffiliated with Destiny that have played more into their hands than these two. Thanks to them, Lucha La Barba has been brutally injured. Whether that attack was caused by Destiny or someone masquerading as them, Lucha La Barba would not have been attacked had El Exilio not thrown their half-ton tantrum."
*Matt Rivers storms out onto the stage with his ring gear on but without his entrance music. He gets into the ring with a microphone in his hands and his NEXUS Championship belt slung over his shoulders.*
[Matt:] "What happened to Lucha is inexcusable but the burden is now on us, on me, to do the right thing. This may be uncomfortable for some of you, especially so soon after what just happened, but Destiny wins if we end the show on this note. That was the intention tonight of whoever attacked Lucha. Whether it was Destiny or not, they benefit if we go back into hibernation. Destiny trying to ruin us financially through INTERPOL's asset freeze is no different than this. But I won't let that happen. Arthur, Drake, and Thunder agree. We can't let this happen.
So listen, I am going to give Lucha La Barba his NEXUS Title shot when he is healthy. But, in the meantime, I am going to honor the same spirit of competition that he believes in, that everyone back in that locker room believes in. If we back down now, if we lick our wounds, we erase the progress that we earned with this tour. I said there's going to be a Title shot tonight, and I mean it. But I want to do something different.
I want someone to earn that shot, but I'm prepared to do what it takes to make sure they have a fair chance once they earn it, If I put contenders against each other in one match and then face the winner, he will be too tired to legitimately face me. So here is how this will go down. We're about to have a Battle Royale. But I will take part in it too. If I win the Battle Royale, the person I eliminate last will get a shot against me tonight. If I am eliminated, then not only will the winner of the Battle Royale get a shot at me tonight, but the person who eliminated me gets a Title shot down the line: provided they aren't the same person who wins the Battle Royale.
That means that up to two people can earn NEXUS Title shots in this match and one person gets a guaranteed Title shot against me tonight. I will be just as tired as they will be. This will be just, this will be competitive, this will be everything UBL stands for.
Arthur and Drake are coming up with seven other guys to face me. I'm ready. Let's do it."
[Darius:] "This...this man is a true Champion. You lead by example, Matt Rivers."
*The crowd cheers as Matt Rivers places his NEXUS Championship on the floor right in front of him, challenging everyone in the back to take it.*
Match 2: Battle Royale for a shot at the NEXUS Championship!
PART 1
PART 2
Matt Rivers vs. Naja Mask vs. Jason Hyde vs. Kramer vs. Jasper Woodruff vs. Tetsu Gushiken vs. Brandr Hoff vs. Wang Gom-Bu
(Geese's note: I'm sorry for the poor video quality of the match. Youtube rejected the original video right at the end of the upload, so I had to split it into two but no longer had the original raw AVI video to split. The match is honestly awesome but the visual quality is below my usual standard.)

[Darius:] "I don't know whether to be more impressed at Brandr's victory or Tetsu's success. Tetsu forced Matt Rivers, our NEXUS Champion, to submit to the Tetsu Hook. He also dismantled and submitted Naja Mask who hit a flying kneel kick that seemed like a cold-blooded glass of water to Tetsu's hot streak of offense. Then he made it all the way to the end when Brandr Hoff emerged victorious using Heimdall's Horn."
Tetsu Gushiken (O) (Tetsu HOOK - 21:53) (X) Matt Rivers
Brandr Hoff (O) (Heimdall's Horn - 32:18) (X) Tetsu Gushiken
[Darius:] "Let me put this into perspective. Brandr Hoff is the only man to have defeated Matthias and came within a hair of beating Matt Rivers for the NEXUS Championship at '13". On that same event, Tetsu faced me in a Field Leader Title match. Although I narrowly won that match, Tetsu impressed me enough that I graduated him from Basic Training to the main roster. On that night I was amazed with how far he had come in a few short years. And, in just four short months since then, Tetsu made it to the end of this Battle Royale and actually defeated our Champion in the process. Tonight Tetsu made the strongest impression he has ever made on this roster and earned himself a NEXUS Title shot in the future.
The only question is who will be holding that Championship when Tetsu wrestles for it: Brandr Hoff looked incredibly impressive tonight. Just when it looked like Tetsu was going to use his momentum to win this match, Brandr held steadfast to will himself to victory. He narrowly avoided the Tetsu SHOCK finisher and showed that impressive combination of viking spirit and stoicism. Don't let the fan reaction fool you - they regularly cheer for Brandr. But they were so certain that Tetsu had the momentum to finish this match that they were surprised Brandr was able to stop it. Brandr does not allow himself to get pushed around, he doesn't allow anyone else's momentum to carry him. Brandr was facing the most confident Tetsu that we have ever seen but still was able to put this match away. Matt Rivers is going to have a real challenge on his hands tonight."
*Advertisements air for Pro Wrestling Secret Island: Secret Base Camp.*
[Darius:] "Now it's time for the last match of the second round of the Universal Battalion Tag tournament. Dissmastah Droid and Kazuo Saji face the Monroe 'brothers' of Destiny. It's true that Destiny and the UBL have never revealed the relation between them but I am telling you that they are brothers. Destiny is free to bring any lawsuits that they want against me. With that comment, I speak for myself rather than the UBL.
I also speak for myself when I say that Kazuo Saji is completely ready for this match. I faced him two months ago in a Field Leader Title match. He is the only wrestler, to date, to turn down eligibility for promotion to the main roster in order to continue training with me so that he can become the best that he can be. I am very impressed at his re-dedication to his craft and I think he has the mental edge in this match. Kazuo Saji has started to become known as the "Destiny Killer" in many circles. I am hoping, and you'll find no neutrality here, that this continues tonight. Kazuo has knocked out Destiny oaf Matthias, an accomplishment that no one else has ever been able to do. I know just how dangerous both Monroes are, especially Jeff Monroe, but I have confidence that Kazuo will not be intimidated or shaken by the propaganda of Ruby Moreno.
The only question to me is Droid - he is the 'X factor' here, where X may be greater or equal than 0 or 1. I know very little about Droid other than his obvious athleticism and resilience. But is he up to this task? You all must understand that the Monroes are not your common men. Jeff should not even be walking right now, let alone wrestling, due to the paralyzing injuries he sustained at the hands of Orochi Geese. Yet here he is, arguably more dangerous than before he was injured. If he was not injured, one would expect him to have gotten to the point that he is at today. So it simply does not make sense that he seems no worse for the wear after the spinal injury that Geese gave him. Jeff Monroe is practically super human. And believe me when I say that Jack is 'cut from the same cloth' that Jeff is. Ruby Moreno and her goons saw to it that they-"
*The commentary feed is cut. Darius narrows his eyes and sits there silently. The two teams come out to the ring with Chr0me getting fanfare and Destiny getting practically booed out of the arena. The match begins without Darius having another chance to say anything on commentary.*

[Darius:] "I am unsure of exactly how but it looks like the audio issues magically resolved themselves. I also don't really know enough about Droid's 'circuitry' to hypothesize what happened at the end of this match. Either that failure to kick out was a glitch in his programming or the Monroes did so much damage to Droid's leg over the course of this match that he could not move nor kick out of Jack's pin. In either case, Jack Moreno became one of the first wrestlers in the UBL to earn a pinfall victory directly resulting from the damage of a submission move. What concerns me is that his reaction to not getting the submission and trying to finish the match anyway was as 'robotic' as anything that Droid did."
Kazuo Saji/Dissmastah Droid (X) [Stretch Muffler Pin? - 23:13] (O) Jack Monroe/Jeff Monroe
[Darius:] "Surprisingly, both Jack and Jeff leave the ring quietly without any attempted follow-up from the damage caused. Given that they have Saji outmanned, and have a chance to get revenge on behalf of their cult, yeah I said it, cult, I don't understand their behavior here. Maybe it is Ruby attempting to turn over a new leaf in regards to the public image of Destiny. Maybe they are acting innocent here to cast doubt on the theory that they had anything to do with the attack on Lucha La Barba. I don't know, I can't really say that I care though - their movement is steeped in lies. Droid is still on the ground, tending to his leg and Kazuo is on one knee surveying the condition of his friend. I feel for Kazuo here. His team had a chance, fell short, and now it appears that his friend, one who helped him focus his positive energies recently, may be injured."
*Suddenly a bleeding mountain of a man jumps the barricade and slides into the ring*
[Darius:] "That's Matthias! And Kazuo doesn't see him."
*Saji doesn't see Matthias in back of him but reacts to the sudden change in the crowd energy. He turns around too slowly and eats a spear by the much larger and more muscular Matthias. After knocking the wind out of Saji, Matthias begins brutally stomping him. Jack and Jeff Monroe witness this but don't seem to care very much. They don't assist Matthias but they also don't do anything to restrain him or get his attention. They are just watching, completely emotionally removed. Darius gets up from the commentator booth and runs down the ramp to the ring to help Saji. On his way, he pushes past the Monroes, knocking them backward a little. This action gets the attention of the Monroes who follow Darius into the ring and attack him from behind. They neutralize him in the corner, taking turns chopping him, while Matthias continues attacking both Saji and the still-injured Droid. Matthias lifts Saji for the start of a crucifix powerbomb when two men jump out of the audience from different sections.
One of them is Connor Cipris from the SWA promotion!*
The other is known as Sweet Brown Sugar, a wrestler formerly in Azteca Pro Wrestling and now of New Wave Promotions!
Both of these men, who are in tag teams with Saji in their respective feds, storm the ring and come to the aid of Kazuo, each pulling one of his legs down so that he slides out of Matthias' powerbomb grasp. They realize that they are on the same side and join forces to overwhelm Matthias with kicks. Cipris is able to kick out the leg of Matthias, sending him down to one knee, allowing a now recovered Saji to hit a 'Chrome Splitter'. It's delivered at only half-strength but it's enough to send Matthias rolling out of the ring in tremendous pain. Saji, Cipris, and Sugar come to the aid of Darius by throwing Jack and Jeff Monroe over the top rope. They help Darius up and all four men form a protective circle around Droid.
As Destiny goes backstage, and four men who are dressed like priests drag Matthias to safety, UBL security storms the ring. Darius thanks Saji, Cipris, and Sugar and leaves the ring to talk to security. Saji introduces Cipris and Sugar to each other and then helps Droid up. The four men stand in the ring, partially bruised (in body and ego for Saji and Droid), but proud at being able to clear the ring of Destiny.
The crowd chants "Chrome" at the four men in the ring as Saji smiles.*
Advertisements air for theFPCPP Super Junior Cup Tournament.
*We get a cold open to this match as Darius is back at the commentary booth but recovering from the attack at the hands of the Monroe Brothers. Brandr Hoff makes his entrance, followed by Matt Rivers who is slowly walking to the ring. The crowd is supporting both men. They get into the ring, shake hands, and Matt gives his NEXUS Championship belt to the referee to hold up in the air. The NEXUS Title match has begun!*

[Darius:] "I can't believe these two held out this long after having already wrestled tonight in that grueling Battle Royale. I thought this was going to be shorter. Brandr came out of the gate strong and wanted to finish this early. He logged more time in the Battle Royale and Matt Rivers has better conditioning. So you can tell that Brandr was motivated to push the pace of this match. We saw the Valhallariat a little earlier than usual. Matt showed the resiliency of a Champion as well as the tenacity of one. He was undeterred by getting hit by lariat after lariat. He met Brandr's Norwegian backbreaker with multiple crossfaces. Brandr did not seem to know how to deal with Matt's determination here but Matt appeared comfortable and ready to exploit a moment of lapsed concentration. Finally, he hit the same Chancery that originally won him the NEXUS Title."
Brandr Hoff (X) [Chancery of WIN - 17:35] (O) Matt Rivers
*It takes Matt Rivers a few minutes to get back up on his feet. By the time that he does, Brandr collapses: his adrenaline having finally run out. Matt Rivers attempts to help Brandr Hoff up off the mat but Brandr doesn't accept the help. He pushes Matt away then gets up on his own.*
[Darius:] "Brandr is a proud man. The fact that he lost twice to Matt in the past few months, especially with the golden opportunity he had tonight, is certainly frustrating him and you can understand why. But I think that he will do the right thing here."
*After a few seconds of catching his breath and reflecting upon the situation, Brandr sighs then nods to Matt who is on the opposite side of the ring reclaiming his Championship belt. Matt walks over and extends his hand, which Brandr proudly accepts without hesitation. Brandr raises Matt's arm in victory, pats him on the back, mouths 'next time', then takes his leave of the ring.*
[Darius:] "That is the same spirit of competition and sportsmanship that Matt wanted to display tonight by putting his Title on the line. I think that, win or lose, Matt accomplished his mission tonight. UBL is the better for it. We will see you next on May 13th where I will be defending my Field Leader Title against Yoshirozuna and Corey O'Brian will be defending his World Heavyweight Championship against his stiffest challenger yet."
*The show ends with an exhausted looking Matt Rivers holding his NEXUS Title belt high and the crowd applauding him.*
