"Universal Base 11 Count" Tour
Show 4 - June 6, 2018
Location: Kyoto, Japan
*The camera fades in on a shot of the Universal Battle Chamber and an excited audience. UBL fans, never ones to disappoint with an array of signs, have brought the creative fire saying things like "Battalion fever strikes again" and"WhereTF was ubble?"; The crowd goes into a frenzy when "Black Connection" by Camp Lo starts playing and Kazuo "Chrome" Saji walks onto the entrance ramp with a smile.*
*Kazuo grabs a microphone but pauses to take in the adulation and even bows to the crowd.*
[Kazuo:] "Kyoto know how to treat your boy! This feels great! We gonna party tonight!! Drake and Arthur sent me out here to welcome the world back to UBL. But you are the ones who did the welcoming. This is real love y'all showing me."
*The crowd chants: "After-math! After-math!" and Saji smiles.*
[Kazuo:] "True that, y'all looking at the new SWA Aftermath Champion! And I feel that love...and felt it all night long after winning that match. *Saji smirks* But this about tonight. UBL brought me out here to restart their tour and put asses in dem seats. Real talk - June 3rd of last year was the day the Base 10 tour-ending super show was supposed to drop. No offense to my boy RYOMA, but you don't need a sundial to see we a'little late. So UBL renaming the tour Base 11 and we moving forward. They could'a trot out Drake Yoshida to give you an hour explanation of why we couldn't return sooner. But y'all came here to be entertained, not be bored by excuses and constant apologizing. Tonight be about the present and the future. And they both so bright...*Kazuo smirks again and points to his sunglasses* that you gotta wear shades.
Here's a look at tonight. A lot of bros graduated to the NEXUS Division roster from Basic Training last year, including yours truly. But there's still just one Championship for us to compete for despite the added girth in the division. So Drake decided it's time for a new Championship to be introduced - one defended on every show to allow for competition against all comers while the NEXUS Champion deals with specific challengers. This new Championship gonna be called the Circuit Championship, after 'ye ole' UBL Circuit shows. You guys remember those? Ole campfire roaring and Grandpappy Geese telling scary stories? Anyway, there's gonna be a Battle Royale tonight to seed a Circuit Title Tournament that will play out soon. The tournament finals gonna happen on our next big show which will drop in the Fall. That's our future.
And that show gonna be called...'Lunar Eclipse of the Heart' and is planned for October 14."
*Saji takes off his sunglasses and appears to wipe his eyes as if he was crying*
[Kazuo:] "I love that name, I really do. Drake thought it was right to name and plan that show based on the 10-year anniversary of the event where UBL went to the freaking moon as part of the delayed 2008 Universal Battalion. 'Lunar Eclipse' features the Circuit Championship tournament finals, a NEXUS Championship defense by Matt Rivers against an opponent that Drake will announce soon, and the finals of the Universal Battalion Championship tournament from last year which has the 'Monroe bros b4 Ruby hoes' from Destiny facing El Fantasma Pálido and Yoshirozuna of 'El Exlaxio.'"
*Despite laughing at his own punchline, Saji flinches a little when he mentions Yoshirozuna.*
[Kazuo:] "But since tonight be the 10-year anniversary of the first Universal Champions league show, Drake and Arthur thought it right to let two vets bring this UBL anniversary tour back to life with a new battle of a classic rivalry. In our first match tonight, Barton "Marauder" Miller faces Thunder Strike. These two were in UBL since the beginning, right here in Japan, and bleed UBL blood. But they better not bleed all over my fancy suit, so I'm jetting. After this match, John Randolph is back in the UBL commentary booth doing what he does best. Thanks for the love everyone, Chrome out."
*Saji smiles and leaves the ring as Drake Yoshida comes down to referee. He is followed by the two combatants of the next match who each get a huge round of applause from the fans. They face off, shake hands, and the match starts.*

[John:] "It's good to be home. Thank you to Mr. Wingate and Sergeant Yoshida for inviting me back to be the voice of UBL commentary. And what a great match to come back to! Thunder Strike and Barton showed us why they are both former Universal Champions as well as multiple Universal Battalion Champions. Both of these men are part of the heart and soul of this storied promotion and put on an intense encounter for the fans.
Barton Miller (X) [Spear - 13:53] (O) Thunder Strike
[John:] "Thunder Strike has not wrestled an official match in years but has one of the most intense training regimen of any wrestler on our roster given his war against Destiny and position as the Head of UBL Security. Barton Miller trains every day with his student JET Hamada but also works out with anyone in the UBL Dojo who requests his assistance or advice. He is one of the most respected veterans on the roster and has spent the past year attempting to help wrestlers of all experience levels stay in competitive shape for when the hiatus would finally end.
[John:] "We turn next to a match that many in the back are very excited about because it involves the creation of a new UBL Championship. As Kazuo said, the recent influx of Basic Training graduates to the NEXUS Roster has created a situation where having just one Championship is insufficient. Arthur, Drake, and NEXUS Champion Matt Rivers all agree that it is time for a new Title to allow rising stars to make a name for themselves through constant competition against all comers. The eventual UBL Circuit Champion will defend their Title on every UBL event, will not have a choice who they will face, and will not get an automatic rematch if they lose the Title. The NEXUS Championship will remain the top Championship in this division and will be reserved for the contenders who fight their way up the ladder.
However, the Circuit Champion has a unique opportunity to face, and defeat, as many wrestlers in the division as possible. As a result, they can increase the value for themselves and the Championship. Matt Rivers was especially excited to see a strong Circuit Champion arise, in the hopes that a rivalry between Titles can allow everyone to be at their best.
But let's not get too ahead of ourselves, as we still have to crown the first Circuit Champion. We will have a Battle Royale right now between seven recent graduates and one long-time roster member: Jean Dubreil. The order of the eliminations, in regards to who can stay in the longest, will determine the seeding of an upcoming tournament to play out over the next few months. For example, the first match of the tournament will take place between whoever wins this match against the first wrestler eliminated in this match. Therefore, everyone has a chance in the tournament to redeem a poor performance in this Battle Royale but odds are that the wrestlers standing tall toward the end will be tough to defeat in any match, whether Battle Royale or singles. Everyone is in the ring now and ready to start. I must say that, as much as I missed UBL action and being right in front to call it, I did not miss the mean-spirited remarks of Kurt Sanders which are now directed to everyone else in the match. I can't even repeat the slur he just used against Wang Gom-Bu. Just vile."

[John:] "And what a match we had here! The mountain of a man, Wang Gom-Bu, stands tall to claim victory and the number one seed in the tournament. You have to give THRASH Ogawa a lot of credit here too though. Not only was he the last one eliminated, but he almost pinned Wang earlier in the match. Had Drake not been, correctly, counting the elimination of the unethical Kurt Sanders, he would have been counting Thrash's pinfall of Wang after 'Thrashes 2 Ashes.' It's hard to tell if that would have kept Wang down at that point, but it was the closest anyone came to eliminating him. Tetsu Gushiken also deserves special mention here for being the second to last eliminated and the only one to actually earn a pinfall elimination, defeating JET Hamada with that debilitating knee kick. Interestingly enough, due to the overall order of elimination, JET will actually get to avenge that loss right away since he faces Tetsu in the first round of the tournament. One more match pairing that I want to point out is that Wang Gom-Bu faces Tsaoring Chou. Not only is this a battle of the #1 vs. #8 seed, it's also a battle between the men with the largest weight and height differential in the tournament. I believe that Drake will have the full seeding and match pairings on the UBL website later this week."
Winner: Wang Gom-Bu. Order of Elimination (from first eliminated to last eliminated): Tsaoring Chou, Thomas Mills, JET Hamada, Jean Dubreil, Kurt Sanders, Tetsu Gushiken, THRASH Ogawa.
[John:] "Now we turn to tonight's main event. And this match is intriguing on three levels. The first level is the Championship implications. In a few months, at 'Lunar Eclipse of the Heart', El Fantasma Pálido and Yoshirozuna, known as 'El Exilio,' are facing Jack and Jeff Monroe of Destiny to decide the new Universal Battalion Champions. It is the finale match of the Universal Battalion Tag Team Tournament from last year from before UBL went on hiatus. So the winner here will carry momentum to the tag team match for the Championship, but that is just one angle of tonight's encounter.
The second angle is that this match can provide a sense of closure over years of frustration for Yoshirozuna. He is one of the fastest rising stars I can remember in UBL, especially given the embarrassing way his career was almost cut short. Yoshirozuna, then known as Yoshiro, lost to then NEXUS Champion Joachim during the 'Destiny Trial Series.' As a result of that loss, Destiny got to add Jeff Monroe to the UBL roster. El fantasma Pálido's loss to Joachim during that same 'Trial Series' led to Destiny adding Matthias to the UBL roster. Both Yoshiro and Pálido took leaves of absences from UBL due to their losses allowing Destiny to add members to this roster in their war against UBL. In addition to that guilt, Yoshiro also left because Kurt Sanders ruthlessly mocked him. However, after Yoshiro's return to Japan and sumo, he became Yoshirozuna after winning the Grand Sumo Championship. He came back to UBL with the mission to cleanse it of Destiny, especially of Jeff Monroe who was let onto the roster as a result of Yoshiro's own loss. There are rumblings backstage that Yoshirozuna doesn't plan on allowing Jeff to make it to their tag team title match, wanting to finish him right here.
The third angle is that Jeff Monroe is incredibly resilient. He has returned to the wrestling ring after having seemingly been dispatched before by, arguably, the most violent man that UBL has ever seen. 8 years ago this month, Orochi Geese grievously injured Jeff Monroe, in what most people thought was the end of his career. I was on commentary that night, with Jean Carter sitting next to me, and we were both shocked at what occurred during that attack. It seemed as if Jeff would never walk again, let alone wrestle. And while Geese did eventually donate money to Jeff's medical care, thanks to Celes's urging, the idea of Jeff returning to the ring as a competitor wasn't even remotely entertained. Most people thought he had left Destiny and went onto live a life completely devoid from his past. So when Jeff Monroe confronted Geese on Kazuo Saji's "Chrome Dome" segment at "Matsuki Mobile" in 2016, the wrestling world was shocked. However, Jeff hasn't wrestled a singles match at all since his return. He has been in tag matches with Jack Monroe, who Ruby claims is his brother. This is Jeff Monroe's first singles match in 8 years, ever since Geese brutalized him. And he is up against Yoshirozuna, a man who has shown himself capable of brutal and barbaric attacks in his own right. This could cause one to be worried for Jeff if not for the fact that Geese's attack occurred after an incredibly competitive match. Jeff Monroe pushed Geese to the limit and was also competitive earlier that year with top FPCPP and AMBITION star, Terry Butcher.
That brings me to the fourth angle - many in UBL considered Jeff Monroe to be one of the quickest rising stars of that era, much as Yoshirozuna is now. If Jeff is similar to how he was before the injury, he may be one of the few on this roster who can match physical capacity and aggression with Yoshirozuna. Pound for pound, Jeff is one of the strongest wrestlers on the roster. He actually has a shot at resisting Yoshirozuna's size. However, Yoshirozuna has more momentum given the way his career has skyrocketed recently, and he has more apparent motivation due to his hatred for Destiny. We don't know what Jeff's motivations are here. Does his desire to win the Universal Battalion have to do with Ruby Moreno's desire to dominate UBL or out of some sense of revenge against Oroch Geese in wanting to win a Championship to show that Geese didn't break him? It's impossible to know because Jeff hasn't said one thing to anyone in UBL since his return. Ruby has done all of the talking for him and Jack which is strange given how cocky Jeff was during his initial ascent. All we know is how effective Jeff has been in tag team competition and how stoic he is against anyone who has stood in his way. Yoshirozuna doesn't just stand in one's way though, he blocks out the moon...leading to a Lunar Eclipse of...I'll stop."

[John:] "An incredible victory for Yoshirozuna! It's also incredible that Jeff Monroe managed to survive the "Sumoshiro Slammu" without being knocked out or injured as so many other wrestlers have, like Kurt Sanders. But he could not fight off the pinfall nor was he able to put Yoshirozuna down with his own high impact offense."
Yoshirozuna (O) ["Sumoshiro Slammu" - 17:34] (X) Jeff Monroe
[John:] "And just when I was starting to think how odd it was that a UBL 'return' show wasn't yet graced by Ruby Moreno's presence - and a long-winded speech - here she comes now to the ring, accompanied by Jack Monroe."
*Ruby orders Jack Moreno to get into the ring.*
[John:] "Ten bucks says he's not getting in the ring to help his 'brother' out but instead attack Yoshirozuna."
*Jack spears Yoshirozuna then stands up and gets belted in the face by a flying knee*
[John:] "It's El Fantasma Pálido!! He ran down to the ring then slingshotted himself over the top rope for a very high impact flying knee! Ruby is annoyed but doesn't seem too concerned until...uh oh."
*El Fantasma Pálido pulls out what appears to be a stick from his belt.*
[John:] "I've seen those before - they are called bastons and are used in the Filipino martial art of Eskrima. These are exactly the types of 'sticks' kids refer to when they say 'sticks and stones may break my bones' - though they often say that rather casually, if you ask me. It looks like El Fantasma Pálido is planning on doing exactly that to both Monroe brothers as he starts whipping his baston onto both of their backs and upper arms!! El Fantasma Pálido isn't just defending Yoshirozuna, he's viciously beating Jack and Jeff Monroe and Ruby Moreno has completely lost her cool here. She's actually screaming for UBL security which is definitely a first. I guess she doesn't have any Destiny back-up? Where is Gauntlet Security? Or Matthias? Not that I miss the big lug, I'm just surprised Ruby came relatively unarmed."
*UBL Security, led by a fatigued but angry Thunder Strike, finally chases El Fantasma Pálido and Yoshirozuna out of the ring and calls for medics to come to attend to the Monroe brothers.*
[John:] "This attack by El Exilio wasn't just to gain an advantage, it was to send a message to all tag teams that may find themselves across the ring from them. Jeff and Jack already have purple welts on their back from those bastons. The weirder and deeply unsettling thing is that they don't appear to be in any visible pain. Their faces have no expression on them even though they are clearly having problems moving their bodies. Ruby Moreno, of all people, is the one showing emotion. She looks almost traumatized from this counterattack by El Fantasma Pálido. El Exilio wins this round.
Folks, I'm getting word that the show is going to end now given all of this, dare I say 'chaos' - talk about salt in Jeff's wound - but UBL security needs to make sure that the ring and the crowd areas are secured given what just happened and the potential that any undercover Gauntlet or Destiny members attempt any type of attack in retaliation. Now that the UBL is back though, we will be running regular shows in Japan until we get our clearance to compete in the United States.
This has been John Randolph for UBL. Thanks for joining us!"
