"Lunar Eclipse of the Heart"
Taping Date: December 13, 2018
Broadcast Date: January 3, 2019
Location: The building formerly known as "Peter Venkman Memorial Arena" in Westchester, New York.
*An energized crowd greets the cameras with crowd signs as smarky as the wait for this show was long. "WTF is UBBLE" is the most popular sign in attendance but a few "Home!" signs are found as well as one peculiar "WTF happened to Destiny? Your story threads are looser than Sandy Morton!" That sign was not so popular with the fans behind it. In addition to signs, the fans have shown their lubble through classic ubble merchandise like "We <3 MJC" plush cats and "Matt Rivers" rally towels. Always bring a (pure) face towel to one of these infamous anniversary shows! Things tend to get bloody.*
We go to the commentary booth where John Randolph is waiting for us with a big smile on his face.*
[John:] "Hello fans and welcome to 'Lunar Eclipse of the Heart' - a show significant for three reasons.
First, we are at the long time home of UBL and OG-Joshi in the Peter Venkman Memorial Arena in New York. Secondly, it is the exact 15 year Anniversary of the creation of OG-FPD. That is the original parent company to the UBL, started by Geese Walker - who happens to be one-half of the main event tonight. The third reason is that we are a little over 10 years removed from one of the wildest shows we ever ran - the Universal Battalion show held on the Earth's Moon.
Tonight's show was originally planned to occur on the exact 10 year Anniversary of the Lunar show. However, it seems fitting that it was delayed as it honors the spirit of that seemingly never-ending Battalion League that spanned over two years. And here we are now - 10 years later. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Tonight we conclude the Universal Battalion Championship Tournament - which also spanned two years despite being planned for just six months. The finale occurs tonight. We'll also be having the finale of the Universal Circuit Title Tournament which was just started this year. And, in our main event, Geese Walker challenges Matt Rivers for his UBL NEXUS Championship.
But first, I'd like to introduce two people who have had a tremendous impact on the promotions of the OG-FPD: Luke Kisiera and Jean Carter. Jean was the 'Coach' of OG-Joshi and saved it from Destiny's attempts to take it over in 2011. Luke is one of the wrestlers who fought off the Jinchuu invasion of 2011. No, that year wasn't my favorite either..."
*Jean Carter and Luke Kisiera walk down the ramp with microphones.*
*Jean has tears of happiness in her eyes and Luke appears proud to be returning to a UBL ring.*
[Jean:] "I know Celes is watching over me and I wanted to thank her first before I said anything else.
None of this would be happening without her. Thank you."
[Luke:] "And thank you to Arthur Wingate and Drake Yoshida for inviting us back tonight...and for accepting our gifts."
*Jean looks surprised by that comment*
[Jean:] "We brought gifts?"
Luke:] "Well, this is a gift from me to you as well as to the audience."
[Jean:] "Wowzers! I love gifts, especially Anniversary gifts! What is it?"
[Luke:] "One of my buddies who works in graphic design took your fan art pictures from the Lunar Battalion show and turned each of them into official ring mats for tonight's show, with UBL's full blessing."
*Jean's eyes go wide. Luke points to the Battle-Tron and we see each of the 3 graphics appear on the screen.*
*Jean starts crying again and hugs Luke as hard as she can, causing him to drop the microphone and smile. This brings out Sergeant Drake Yoshida who is practically double-leg tackled by an enthusiastic and powerful hug by Jean.*
[Drake:] "Luke's statement was correct but incomplete. What he failed to mention is the other gift that he provided UBL with. We never would have been able to afford to run this Arena - now owned by Prestige PayWall Wrestling and the Mills family - had Luke not provided the money on our behalf. His profits from the video game he sold-"
[Jean:] "Wrestle Quest!"
[Drake:] "Right...Wrestle Quest. That um, experience, provided him with enough money to bankroll the UBL for the foreseeable future. Arthur owns the UBL, I help run it, but Luke is now our primary financier. Our entire upcoming 2019 tour is on account of him. Thank you, Luke. You don't just have the heart of a hero, you also have the wallet of one."
*Drake shakes Luke's hand and Luke traps him in his own hug and spins him around, delighting Jean and befuddling Drake. Drake escapes the hug, pauses, then hugs both of them back, eliciting huge applause, before running back up the ramp after his unexpected public showing of genuine emotion. Jean and Luke watch as the ring crew puts the first fan art mat over the standard UBL one that started the show. They walk back up the ramp to applause.*
[John:] "I can't think of a match I've been more excited for than one where Jean Carter's art adorns the ring mat. And it looks like Luke is paying me by the word so I'll keep things concise from here on out!
Universal Circuit Championship
[John:] "We are now gearing up for what is sure to be a contrast in personality and styles. The Universal Circuit Title Tournament has brought us two finalists: Tetsu Gushiken and Kurt 'The Hurt' Sanders. Neither of these two men has ever held Championship gold in the UBL but each are very motivated by their own reasons to win tonight.
We already heard their comments, as well as the comments from everyone on this show, a few weeks ago. No one was particularly surprised by Kurt's words but many were taken back by the ferocity of Tetsu's. This match is important to him on many levels, and he made it personal with Kurt through the comments he made. That Tetsu, a man who has had to be coaxed by his entire team for years to say anything, suddenly started to publicly psychoanalyze Kurt was surprising enough. But the fact that he directly addressed his own detractors was both bold and refreshing to see.
However, Tetsu isn't the only combatant in this match that has been underestimated. Kurt's rule-breaking tactics have been dismissed as easily avoidable just because of how predictable they are. Archibald Snow assumed that Wang Gom-Bu would be able to counter Kurt's shenanigans. Jean DuBreil assumed that his own voodoo brand of chicanery would reign supreme but Kurt emerged victorious. A lot of people assume that Kurt uses his tactics because he isn't capable of winning a match cleanly but many in the UBL Dojo dispute that. In fact, Matt Rivers has repeatedly said that Kurt is one of the best pure technical wrestlers on the roster. The issue isn't that Kurt can't wrestle clean, it's that he doesn't want to. The question for tonight is whether Tetsu will somehow force him to bring out the best version of himself and what that 'best' is. The other question is whether or not Tetsu has an answer to getting struck in the 'Gushis' that is somehow better than Kurt's previous opponents. Let's go to the ring to find out the answers and crown our first ever Universal Circuit Champion."

[John:] "I think Tetsu just wanted this victory more. He was not to be deterred by Kurt's high impact offense and even kicked out of the "Hurt Ward" finisher. Despite getting tricked by Kurt's handshake armbar, he gutted it out until finally escaping. That seemed to surprise Kurt and rendered him unable to match a barrage of kicks to the midsection. Tetsu captures his first Title by launching off the post with his famed 'Tetsu Shock'.
Tetsu Gushiken is the new and inaugural Universal Circuit Champion!"
Kurt Sanders (X) ["Tetsu SHOCK" - 13:53] (O) Tetsu Gushiken
[John:] "But this isn't over-"
*Kurt grabs the Universal Circuit Title belt from the outside, sneaks up on a celebrating Tetsu, and smashes him in the head with the belt. He then flees the ring with the title belt in hand.*
[John:] "This is disgusting, even by Kurt's standards."
*Kurt runs up the ramp but doesn't see RYOMA come out from behind the curtain. Kurt doesn't get the better of the collision and falls backwards on his rear end. RYOMA gestures for the Title belt that Sanders stole but Kurt just smiles.*
[John:] "Tetsu's mentor is showing remarkable restraint here under the circumstances, electing to just reclaim the belt on Tetsu's behalf. I would suggest to Kurt to give this up now because there's no way he can get past RYOMA."
*Suddenly, a massive and unkempt man appears.*
[John:] "It's Jasper Woodruff! I thought he retired along with Charles Langford. I don't think RYOMA sees him-"
*Kurt quickly rolls off the ramp to safety and then gestures Jasper forward.*
*Jasper yells out "GET THE GOLD! CONSARNIT, ITS GOLD!" and helps Kurt grab the Universal Circuit Title Belt. They flee to the back as RYOMA slowly gets up and walks to the ring to check on Tetsu.*
[John:] "RYOMA could have chased Kurt and Jasper backstage but he's doing the admirable thing here in checking on his student instead. There will be time to right this wrong in the future.
Tetsu is still our Universal Circuit Champion despite Kurt possessing the actual belt. I can't help but think this was Kurt's contingency plan the whole time. But I don't think he realizes the fire he just lit in Team Toukon."
*The crowd chants "TOU-KON, TOU-KON" as RYOMA helps Tetsu to his feet and raises his hand in victory. Tetsu looks confused as to where the Title belt is but RYOMA helps him backstage and begins explaining to him what happened.*
Universal Battalion Championship
[John:] "At the 13th Anniversary event of OG-FPD in 2016, it was announced by Arthur and Drake that the Universal Battalion Championship would reset and operate under new rules. Every pair that now competes for the Championship had to consist of a veteran mentor and a rookie student or two rookie students. As a result, the currently reigning team at that time of Sun & Moon, RYOMA and Nobu Nakazawa, relinquished their Championships after being undefeated for over 3 years. That is because RYOMA was no longer considered a "student" given the success he had here. A new tournament was created in 2017 to crown new Champions. By that summer, El Exilio and Destiny had earned their spots in the Finals. Tonight we finally provide long overdo closure to that tournament and, hopefully, to the feud between these teams.
El Exilio consists of Fantasma Pálido and Yoshirozuna. They were considered rookies at that time. Destiny consists of Jack and Jeff Monroe with Jeff considered the mentor of the two as a result of past success. It is unclear how, or if, the Monroes are related. However, they certainly pass for cousins if not brothers. Both pairs have relied on strong teamwork throughout the touranment as a result of their bonds. Where the Monroes appear to be connected by family and the common denominator of Ruby Moneno's guidance, El Exilio forged a connection as a result of another type of shared bond.
Both Fantasma and Yoshirozuna left the UBL in self-imposed exile after being defeated by Joachim who was the NEXUS Champion at that time. Joachim defended his Title through a 'trial series' where his challengers would have a time limit to defeat him. If Joachim won before a certain time limit, not only would he keep his Title, but he would be allowed to introduce new Destiny members to the roster. Joachim defeated both Fantasma and Yoshirozuna which resulted in both Monroe brothers joining the roster and wreaking havoc. Fantasma and Yoshirozuna were criticized for letting their pride and Title aspirations cause them to take a match with high stakes that they weren't prepared for. Fantasma had lost a number of matches up to that point and Yoshirozuna was distracted by his feud with Kurt Sanders. The two men lost favor in the locker room as a result of this. Kurt mocked Yoshirozuna to the point where he took a sabbatical from UBL.
Yoshiro went back to his sumo wrestling roots. He changed his name to Yoshirozuna upon winning his first Sumo Grand Championship. Fantasma Pálido, formerly known as Fantasma Verde, changed his name after wandering throughout Mexico and South America. In the process, he found new purpose as well as an aggression he never had before. At some point, the path of the two men converged yet again and they plotted revenge on everyone in the UBL. When they returned, they promised to violently purge UBL of the two roster members, Jeff and Jack, added as a result of their loss to Joachim.
Jack Monroe is relatively new as a Destiny member. He had made some progress in challenging Darius for the Field Leader title before UBL had to take a break. When we came back, Jack was paired with the more experienced Jeff for the Battalion Tournament. Despite the two men having very similar mannerisms, it is Jeff whose presence is so disquieting. In 2010, Geese Walker ended Jeff's career in one of the most violent attacks that ever occurred in UBL. Everyone was sickened by it to the extent that Geese's own allies turned against him. It was thought certain that Jeff would never wrestle again and the prospects of him even walking were slim. We did not hear or see Jeff for years until he returned in the summer of 2016 to attack Geese during Kazuo Saji's first "Chrome Dome" segment in the FPCPP. Jeff did not look any physically worse for the wear, despite the damage his body had gone through, but he had undergone a severe personality change. In his initial UBL run, he was brash and arrogant. That was earned, to some degree, as he had tremendous success against everyone in the Front Lines. Like him or not, he was his own man back then. Despite being aligned with Ruby Moreno, he didn't seem to be a puppet of Destiny like he is now. Jeff has not said one word since his 2016 return. Both him and Jack are led to the ring with empty, distant, emotionless expressions on their faces. I don't know why he has returned or what he thinks about it. I don't know why Jack has joined the UBL or Destiny either. The two appear to be empty shells, soulless husks of men. That, to me, is even more concerning than the most idealistic leaders of the Destiny movement spouting their lunacy.
Yoshirozuna has intimidated just about everyone he has faced but Destiny doesn't seem to fear them cause they lack the required emotional state. On the other hand, very few wrestlers seem comfortable facing Destiny yet El Exilio can't wait to. It's clear that neither team is concerned about this match but I'd be more comfortable if one of the teams seemed capable of concern. As for who will win this, I think it depends on how much of the prodigal talent Jeff Monroe still has in addition to whether or not Fantasma Pálido can handle the natural physical talents of his opponents. He's the odd man out in terms of size and the Monroes are both deceptively quick which cuts into his usual speed advantage. Yoshirozuna has been dominant since returning to the UBL but I do wonder how much his anger will affect his focus in this match.
One further question - where the hell is Ruby Moreno? We have heard very little about what has happened to Destiny over the past two years but it does not appear positive for them. She made some disturbing comments on behalf of her team and, seemingly, herself a few weeks ago but it seems she will not be accompanying the Monroes to their match tonight. Is she backstage, in California, or someplace else entirely? I don't know but one can never feel comfortable when Destiny business is concerned and she's nowhere in sight. In any case, it's time to get to the match.
New Universal Battalion Champions are about to be crowned for the first time in two years. I wish I was more excited but the truth is that both of these teams give me plenty of cause for concern as to the future of this storied Title.

[John:] "A lot of people figured that an El Exilio victory could only occur if Yoshirozuna was the one that directly earned it. However, it was Pálido who scored the pinfall over Jack Monroe after dominating both Monroes in the final minute. This was a huge victory for El Exilio that marked the first Championship that either man has held in their UBL careers. Given the winding path that their careers have gone, you have to admire their perseverance even if you question their attitudes and intentions. Both of these men left the UBL and almost retired for good due to the disappointment they felt after losing to Destiny and being ridiculed by their peers. Winning this tournament and title went a long way in re-establishing their credibility in the ring but they have even longer to go in showing that they are worthy of being champions in UBL.
Despite my own misgivings about El Exilio, it is exciting to see them and especially Tetsu win Championships here for the first time. It looks like tonight isn't just about the UBL celebrating its past, but preparing for the future as well."
Yoshirozuna/Fantasma Pálido (O) [Reverse Frankensteiner - 28:28] (X) Jack Monroe/Jeff Monroe
*Both teams briefly leave the ring to recover from the match. Pálido and Yoshirozuna stare a hole into their opponents, then look at each other and smile. The Monroes don't seem to be in any rush to leave either.*
[John:] "Sensing danger, the ring crew is able to remove Jean Carter's tour de force mat and replace it with the standard UBL after the two teams leave the ring. El Exilio swore to end the careers of the Monroes. I was hoping that winning Championship gold might allow them to celebrate for a change but it apparently has done nothing to satiate their anger."
*Yoshirozuna rushes Jeff Monroe on the outside as Jack escapes and goes inside the ring. Pálido pulls out a stick from under the ring, twirls it around, and goes inside to greet Jack.*
[John:] "That is one of those Eskrima-style Baston sticks that Pálido used a few months ago against Jack in an attempt to gravely injure him. This time there is no one to stop him and Yoshirozuna from finishing the job."
*Yoshirozuna hits Jeff Monroe on the outside with a chair and then tosses it into the ring near Pálido."
*Yoshirozuna then rolls a further beaten Jeff Monroe into the ring.*
[John:] "I know Destiny isn't popular, especially with Thunder Strike, but usually security would be out here by now. I'm surprised that Ruby Moreno hasn't called out Gauntlet Security as well."
*Yoshirozuna rolls into the ring while Pálido grabs the Universal Battalion Titles.*
[John:] "This is getting sickening. Destiny or not, these are human beings."
[John:] "Both Monroes are broken...but it's not over."
[John:] "I can't believe a near 500 pound man just jumped onto two completely broken and defenseless ones. I was shocked when we learned that Geese's attack didn't end Jeff's career but there's no way Yoshirozuna didn't do it right here. I can't imagine we'll be seeing Jack again either. El Exilio just exiled Destiny, for better or worse.
We're gonna break for commercial so that Destiny can receive medical attention."
*Commercials air for the upcoming LAWLiday 2019 with a co-main event of Pea Shooter vs. FIASUKO and the "máscara contra cabellera" match between Platano Sabroso and Patata Verde.*
[John:] "The ring crew has just changed the mat to the next charming Jean Carter picture. Wait...why is he back?"
*Kurt Sanders runs back to the ring and has a smile of pure malice.*
[John:] "Okay - come on, what is this jerk doing now?"
*Kurt puts his hand over his stomach in pantomimed discomfort, pulls out a bottle of brown sludgy liquid from his tights, and pours it all over the final lunar ring mat. The fans boo as loudly as they can while Kurt laughs.*
[John:] "This is a new low for Kurt Sanders. I can't believe he'd stoop to this on a night like tonight and after all Jean and Luke has done. Speaking of-"
*A furious Luke Kisiera storms out from backstage but is held back by Jean Carter. She is upset but is trying to talk Luke out of from running to the ring and potentially getting hurt.*
[John:] "We've seen Luke do some amazing things, but he's been retired since 2011. I understand his feelings but Jean is allowing cooler heads to prevail. Kurt has been apprehended by UBL Security and is finally being escorted out of the ring. Too bad he has to pass Jean and Luke on his way."
*Kurt spits at them but Luke jumps in front so none gets on Jean. Kurt laughs as he's dragged backstage. Jean holds Luke back until they return backstage shortly afterward."
[John:] "You take one look at Luke right now and you know this isn't over. But, after tonight, I think he's going to have to get in line if he wants revenge against Kurt Sanders.
In the meantime, the standard UBL ring mat is set up in place of the now defaced third one. Sorry, Jean."
UBL NEXUS Championship
[John:] "I'm sure that Kurt will be appropriately disciplined for his behavior tonight. But we've already given him too much attention so let's turn to the main event. Matt Rivers defends his NEXUS Championship against Geese Walker.
These two have had less a war of words than a debate about philosophy in the past few months.
Geese Walker discussed his new 'threshold' approach to professional wrestling and life. Matt Rivers responded by voicing his concerns about Geese while simultaneously discussing the possibility that Geese's words and intentions have been unfairly misrepresented. He even admitted that it was Geese who helped train him to regain his title against Joachim a few years ago - information that just about no one in the UBL was aware of up to this point. I'm sure Destiny wasn't happy to hear that either, but I doubt they are too focused on that right now given the events of tonight.
Matt challenged Geese to shake his hand after this match, regardless of who wins. Matt will vouch for Geese's positive intentions if Geese accepts the handshake. If Geese refuses, well, I don't know what Matt's reaction will be. There is a lot of intrigue around this issue but that shouldn't cast a shadow over the other question tonight: who will actually win this match? This is only Geese's fourth official match back from a six year retirement. He is undefeated in singles matches and earned this one by decisively beating RYOMA in the summer. Matt Rivers won the NEXUS Championship twice in the time that Geese has been gone from the ring. His last title defense came in an impressive victory over Brandr Hoff last year.
This is the first Championship opportunity that Geese has had since his return and he's wrestling in the main event of his former home arena on the night of his original promotion's anniversary. That gives him 'home field' advantage despite Matt's status as the leader, heart, and soul of UBL over the past 8 years. Yes, that number includes the final year of Geese's pre-retirement career where he was injured by Jinchuu and Kyle Walker. They attempted to take over the UBL but Matt Rivers was one of their most persistent obstacles. He helped win our war against Jinchuu as Field Leader and led by example by wrestling for the spirit of competition rather than violence. That is one reason he, and all of us, are so concerned with the possible implications of Geese's 'threshold' message. It would be a tragedy to see a return to violence in the UBL: especially spearheaded by a man whose career was synonymous with it and almost ended as a result of it.
I don't know which man is going to win this match or what move will accomplish that victory. I just know what's at stake here is greater than whose name is on that belt. The future of the UBL depends on having a Champion who brings out the best in each competitor through the positive example that they set. Geese has held UBL gold on many occasions and he's held FPCPP World Championship gold. Matt has held two Championships in the UBL. Either man can win this match, either man can win and defend a Championship in the ring, but I'm not sure that either man can properly lead the UBL.
Let's see who will do both as a new era of UBL may be about to start."

*Matt Rivers gets into the ring and immediately offers his hand to Geese.*
[John:] "Wow, I wasn't expecting Matt to lead with a handshake as well."
*The audience goes quiet. After a moment, Geese smiles and loudly says:
[Geese:] "Show me that respect by doing everything you can to defeat me!"
*Matt nods.*
[John:] "Looks like Geese isn't softening his stance, at least not yet."
*The audience gets back into it with dual "Let's go Riv-ers" and "Let's go Walk-er" chants.*
[John:] "The majority of the crowd are rooting for Matt but there's a clear percentage of fans that favor Geese - whether due to his philosophical approach or the nostalgia of seeing him back in a UBL ring. In any case, neither of the competitors are paying much direct attention to the audience. They know that its all about what they do in that ring on their own. And we're about to see exactly that. It's finally time for Matt Rivers to face Geese Walker."

[John:] "What a finish! Both men desperately tried to make the other submit but to no avail. We hit our time limit and so Matt Rivers retains the NEXUS Championship in a draw. The fans are chanting '5 more minutes' but if getting that result was so easy, the time limit would have been 25 minutes to start, right? Come on, fans. You're better than that!
In any case, you have to hand it to both men for their effort here, especially approaching that final minute. They threw just about everything they had at each other but neither relented. In the end, this match may have raised more questions than answered them but certainly entertained me in the process. And, in the end, isn't that what matters most? No? Oh well."
Geese Walker (-) [Time Limit Draw - 20:00] (-) Matt Rivers
[John:] "Matt gets to his feet first but Geese isn't far behind. The crowd is buzzing with anticipation as we are moments away from finding out whether Geese can truly be trusted. Will he shake the hand of still NEXUS Champion, Matt Rivers?"
[John:] "Geese has accepted the handshake! The crowd goes wild!"
*Suddenly, a high-pitched sound pierces the arena at the same time the ring is bathed in an ominous red light.*
*The sound stops and the light finally returns to normal. Matt jerks his arm in, pulling Geese toward him.*
*And then it happens.*
*The crowd is speechless but Matt is not done. He picks a barely conscious Geese up...*
*Matt Rivers stares down at Geese, emotionless. And just when it seems that things can't get worse...*
[John:] "No...not her. Of all people, you can't tell me that Matt Rivers joined Ruby Moreno."
*The crowd is silenced. After a few seconds...*
[John:] "That is...the worst thing I have ever seen happen in UBL. I'm out."
*John puts his headset down and just stares ahead blankly. UBL Security and half the locker room led by Thunder Strike finally swarm the ring. However, Matt has already picked up his NEXUS Championship belt and left through the crowd with Ruby. The audience members keep their distance from them as Matt has a distant look in his eyes.
Thunder looks at Geese on the mat, clutching his neck in agony, and calls for medics. A panicked Robin "Holly" Walker runs down to the ring but Thunder holds her back to allow the medics to work on a restrained Geese who is being strapped to a board. Jean Carter and Luke Kisiera also come down to the ring - their faces consumed in shock at the events that just occurred. The show ends right after the eerie red light from earlier returns to bathe everyone in the ring once more.*
