LOL If we can get THAT kind of reaction for a wrestling show there, then that's worth incorporating the crowd aspect into the show in writeup format (and not the boring FPR repetitive chanting/praying crowd) Sounds like we have some interesting things to work with in a write-up show with all that enthusiasm! I'd imagine the fans would be really excited to support their home team against UBL teams from other places as well, so the fans should be going nuts for the Fatman Pro wres team

Overall status report: As of today, I have about 16 teams confirmed for the league. And I think we may have a few more joining too that I'll find out about soon. (I also confirmed Fat Lip for LRI!) Things are going well with planning and I'd like to thank everyone for keeping me updated with their team choices. I'm inputting the teams and locations into the scheduler program so I'm guessing it wont be too long into February before I have completed the final schedule With this many teams, I'm guessing this league will end up going about 8-9 months overall. There will probably be many more write-up matches then I did for the singles league, but I think that should work well for this format. As no one wants to watch like over 100 survival tag matches for this entire league over the next year ;D

I actually wanted to find a better video than that, but YouTube, Google video AND Dailymotion are VOID of any videos with terrace action. To put it lightly, they jump around like loonies when ball hits net. Generally pitch invasions are left for amatuers scoring/winning vs. pro teams(that's what happened in that video I posted there, it was FA Cup(playoff where ANYONE in England or Wales can enter)) or for winning the league. They'll just be generally all rowdy and noisy, otherwise. Including but not limited to singing pop songs with their own rude words and having the brass band along for a bit of Great Escape. Although I reckon all crowds should have it's own feel. I mean most American crowds I see, no offence, but I find them pretty dull. You get the odd chant, maybe someone setting off a horn or something, but there's no real... I dunno. Just life to 'em really. There's no singing, or people in costumes or setting off flares etc. It makes me feel sad for 'em.

Football/soccer still isn't big over here so most crowds are still rather lifeless. Biggest ovation I can remember a US crowd giving a team was when the US Women's team won in the Olympics and Brandy Chastaine took her shirt off. But getting an American crowd to cheer for THAT is easy! Most US crowds go pretty nuts for other sports though. And heck, even the ECW crowds were pretty passionate. Though I can't remember them ever going as far as the crowd in that video Then again, security is super tight around arenas these days. But US football, baseball, and basketball usually get a big ovation and a lot of chants. And there have been times in like playoffs when crowds rush the field/court and stuff. Not me though, I usually just sit in my seat and hope my overpriced stadium food doesn't spill ;D

I mean all sports, Geese.
I've watched even things like basketball playoff finals and Super Bowl, yet the crowds are tame as hell. Yeah, they make noise and chant, but that's it. No singing or dancing or even people who're just "dressed for the occasion" so to speak.

LOL, well some indie wrestling fans chant/sing...but that's just plain annoying ;D But yeah, i do agree. I never really see any dancing or even real singing. Just chanting and waves and stuff. It could be that a lot of arenas just don't have room for that much movement. I don't attend too many games (i'm just not as big a sports fan as i used to be) but whenever i do, i have like NO room to move around. So i'm thinking that could be part of it...though it doesn't explain the lack of singing Maybe people are just too self-conscious here as a whole? Or then again, maybe americans just prefer to go all out on reality singing/dancing/talent shows then in sporting events. At this point, there are like 5 shows on a night so the odds of them getting on it and getting a career launched are damn high ;D In any case, I'll try to make the UBL fans more lively on all continents

So Mike just came up with a great idea that helped me out a LOT for booking. Due to the amount of teams we have as well as some other considerations (namely, me not being sure if i want the winners to win the league or go through a tiebreaker match like the singles league), he suggested that we split the league into two divisions and have the winners of each division square off in the finals! So we'll have two even league blocks of probably either 8 or 9 teams each that will only face each other. Winners of each block goes to face the other to determine the Universal Battalion Champion 2008! Yes, this will be much easier to manage and can give each block a separate flavor too. Great thinking Mike!

Or, since it's gonna be yearly, you could tier it like a football league as I've never seen this done in rasslin, although I guess year one would need to be like you suggested to sort oot who goes in what tier...
Although this would only be a good idea if there were too many teams to run a straight up league. Also because I'm not a fan of having a tiebreaker match in a league because the results in the league should say who's champ.
Of course, this could just be because I'm an Englishman and am used to all sports which use a round robin format having the winner declared in this manner, and the "tournament" style being used as a seperate competition.

Mike also just suggested that if we end up with 20 teams, we could split this into four blocks and emulate an american pro sports league. Could be interesting doing that as well. I have to think more about this. Meanwhile, I'm just really glad that everyone is getting excited for this I figure we'll at least do a two block split. I'll have to consider a four block split as well. But that may take away some of the match ups I'd like to have. Still, Mike makes some good points: I'm at 16 definite teams right now so I have to see if i get 4 more. I'm still not sure i want to do it this way but i do like the idea of a 4 team tournament at the end. So yeah, I have more thinking to do

of course, I'm just like this 'cause I'm not fully in understanding of this whole American system. It confuses me how 2 teams from different divisions can play each other, unless it is a tournament match. I ramble on too much.

Hey, Geese, I'm gonna see if I can get an NDP team together.
Question, though; would Colleen be able to participate?

Hey, Geese, I'm gonna see if I can get an NDP team together. Question, though; would Colleen be able to participate? Yeah, I'd waive the "no female rule" for Colleen (or any other Dramesi for that matter...) She DID beat Geese, Twinky, and IS the current NDP Champion. She's in, dude I'm surprised we didn't think about having an official NDP team before... And Deibu, thanks for those links. Some of that is a bit too complicated for me to wade through now but i really do appreciate your contributions towards all this. I'm trying to toe the balance between a good strategic setup and something with enough flexibility to allow me to really do the storylines I want. So I don't want anything too rigid here. The 2 block setup can work for that, but i have to think about whether the 4 block (or anything else similar) will just stand in the way of what I'm going for, which as originally just having general warfare between all the teams. However, with 20 teams, it would just be too big of a bracket, so splitting that into two works. Any further splits or organization though may be too much.

As I said, Geese... I'm just babbling because the idea of teams from other divisions fighting each other just blows my mind into all kinds of misunderstandings.

As I said, Geese... I'm just babbling because the idea of teams from other divisions fighting each other just blows my mind into all kinds of misunderstandings. This board is a PRO-babble zone, so you keep saying what's on your mind I understand where you are coming from. If I DID do the two-block setup (which im heavily leaning towards) then there would be no cross-block matches until the very end when it would be the best of Block 1 vs. best of Block 2. Otherwise, its all intrablock matches. The 4 Block thing is a bit more complicated with that. It has its merits (that nice 4 team tourney at the end) but it also is a bit more involved and may stand in the way of some flexibility i wanted for teams battling at least more then 4 other teams. I think Mike is right in that a block of 20 is ridiculous, but a block of 8-10 teams seem ok and could probably work. The funny thing is that I figure there's at least a 50/50 chance that by the end of this tag league I'll come up with a totally different way of doing things for next time. Singles league was simple enough (though not without its imperfections) but this tag league is both bigger and more complicated then the singles league, even before taking into account this recent stuff. The whole 3 or 4 person teams, the "bye weeks", etc. So with that all said, i think the Two block setup can give us a nice happy medium between size management, flexibility, and something for each team to shoot for at the end of the league. At least...I hope
