1/24/08 Update:
A couple of changes have been made in the setup of this league since it was created. Click here to see some of them. When the rules are finalized, they will be announced.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
So major credit to Motosada as he came up with this idea for ARMADA and I thought it might be cool if applied to the entire Universal Battalion Tag Title League. Two major choices here:
1) A lot of the "teams" that are planned to be entered into the Tag League are actually part of greater factions. In most cases, factions of three or more. (Orochi Army, geNEON, Canada Brothers, LRI, etc).
Originally we were just going to have two person tag teams selected and those teams would have the same members throughout the league. And it's still very possible we DO go with this idea (a traditional tag league) but I want to see what you guys think of the new idea. I'm gonna call this new idea "Faction's Choice" as opposed to "Regular teams" for purposes of voting and discussion.
Now the idea here for "Faction's Choice" is that rather then just having one constant two person team represent each faction, we'd have interchangeable two person teams. Think back to 99/2000 era WCW with how the New Jersey Triad (DDP, Bigelow, Kanyon) would defend the tag titles. While they could only have two members defend the titles per match, it would be a different two person combination of those three each time. That's what I'm thinking about doing with the Tag League. So let's say Orochi Army faces LRI one week and geNEON the next week. It could be like OG/Figaro vs. Jack Dod/Stuart Robinson one week and then Clyde/Figaro vs. Reade/Wright the next week.
2) Now, if you guys ARE interested in this overall factional warfare tag idea, let me mention one more idea (reflected in poll choice #2 vs. #3). The question is: Do you all want this kayfabed or do you want active choice in which members take part in each match? If we all wanted, I'd give everyone a high degree of interaction in the actual team make-up. So rather then having me choose the members of each team, I'd let all of us do it. Or at least all of us who have wrestlers in the tag league.
Part of the fun in this would be that the choice of teams could be almost as important as the team execution. In that way, it could almost be like a game of rock/paper/scissors for team choice. If you expect to go up against two speedy members of a team and plan accordingly but then end up against a power wrestler, you could be in trouble. Of course, we'd need some method of making sure that any main event members (OG, Jack Dod, etc) aren't in EVERY match but that can be discussed further.
I'd make the schedule public so that you know when each team is facing each team, but I wouldn't announce the actual makeup of each teams. That's because I'd let you guys tell me who you'd want in the teams and try to 'guess' who would be in the other ones. (since Orochi Army is in the league, I'd make my picks before I get any of yours to ensure i don't play off yours).
Back to the overall idea, the cool thing is that this also kinda works even better with the terminology of an "Ultimate Battalion" Championship league cause then its like the entire faction is the Battalion champion rather then just two people. And one would imagine an entire Battalion would consist of a small faction/army in itself rather then just two members. So conceptually and linguistically, it kinda fits nicely. But obviously, execution matters more here so if you guys aren't into it, I understand. Just figured I'd offer the possibility!
