History and/or Personality
Yoshiro grew up in a traditional Samoan family in a traditional Japanese village right outside Nagoya, Japan. His combined cultural influences seemed tailor made for a prospective athlete. The stoic bodies and high energy of the Samoans plus the fighting spirit of the Japanese made his body strong. And the Samoan gene allowed his head a degree of invulnerability that common physicians not involved in professional wrestling could not explain.
All Yoshiro needed was inspiration to begin his athletic journey and that was not hard to come by. Due to his proximity to Nagoya, his family would take him to watch one of the annual Grand Sumo tournaments every summer. It was not long until Yoshiro began eating just enough that his parents got the hint: This man was born to be a sumo.
He enjoyed great success on his rise through the ranks. Considered a prodigy and the "future of sumo", everyone believed he had the tools to one day become the best. But after a few years of giving his all, his career stalled. He had become disillusioned at some of the political machinations behind the scenes. Despite being in contention for a shot at the current Yokozuna, he was held back due to his youth and lack of certain 'business' connections. After a year of being passed over for the top matches, he re-discovered professional wrestling. He had been a fan of the sport growing up but had never considered it as a career route. However, upon seeing the competition offered in the once Japanese Universal Battle League, his interest was piqued.
After doing an interview with a popular sumo magazine where he discussed taking time off, he let slip that he was considering a career change to another type of ring. Within one day, he was contracted by Miss Asako Matsuki of Matsuki Holdings. She volunteered to set up a meeting between him and Drake Yoshida provided that Yoshiro would consider her guidance in his career. It did not take long to realize that Matsuki's managerial skills clashed with his carefree attitude out of the ring. There also appeared to be instant friction between him and Matsuki charge, RYOMA. So while Matsuki was responsible for getting Yoshiro his big break in the UBL, there was no further business between the two. One can detect some lingering tension, however.
Aside from that, Yoshiro's UBL welcome party was warm. Drake Yoshida was very impressed with his new acquisition, being quite knowledgeable of the sumo wrestling world. Due to the new focus in the UBL on veterans taking rookies as students, Drake assigned Marauder to be Yoshiro's new mentor. He explained that it would be good experience to learn from another physically imposing athlete who could also teach Yoshiro based on the wisdom of his years.
Yoshiro was then introduced to JET Hamada, who Matt Rivers assigned to Marauder as another student of his. All three men got along very well and began teaming together with different combinations. The combination of Marauder and JET Hamada actually became the Battalion Champions in late 2012. Furthermore, Yoshiro and JET became close allies due to their shared Japanese heritage and the fact they were both well renowned in their respective home sports.
Yoshiro's first mission in the UBL is to win the Field Leader Title. Marauder and Matt Rivers both believe that he has all the tools to do so, it is just a matter of Yoshiro adapting to the different styles of athleticism that he never faced before and also dealing with the seedier elements of pro wrestling. A hungry (mainly for success but also food) Yoshiro is up for the challenge.
